2012 T31 2.5 petrol CVT XTrail. Great vehicle.
Was getting the famous throttle lag until I installed an iDrive unit at $299. Will spin the front wheels if you go too hard on take off. 6 throttle settings to cater for on/off road conditions. Made such a difference I then fitted one to my wifes Corolla to counter the throttle lag in it.

Absolutely love this family SUV
Love the spedometer, displays the speed in large digital format. Great fuel economy with co2 stop/start saver function, very sturdy body and feel safe while driving, nice quality interior. Great rearview camera and I adore the foot brake convenience! Perfect family SUV for a small family. The only complaint I have is that it has no in built GPS but not the end of fhe world.

Air con gone and not covered by nissan
I have had this car since brand new kept up all servicing etc with Nissan. I complained two years into having the car that the air con kept cutting out but they tested it and said it was fine. Now had the car 3 years and air con gone again and surprise Im now out of warranty and not covered.
Nissan want to charge me for a diagnostic report, but I dont trust them based on the previous service on the air con.
I will never buy a Nissan again which is a shame because I loved my car.
Its comfortable and great to drive but not so great when its hot and I have three going kids in the car crying from being too hot.
Purchased in March 2021.

Xtrail dangerous to Dogs
Rear floor compartment on a 5 mth old Xtrail cant handle two dogs eg Golden Retrievers. The material bends, dislodges and drops the dogs into the hidden compartment. Complained to dealer who advised me he knew exactly what I was talking about as he had fallen into the hidden compartment of another Xtrail the day before. No offer to fix, just note. Totally upset now that my 6yr old dog on her way to be put to sleep fell into the compartment screaming in pain. Its useless and given Nissans incompetence I intend to cut a sheet of chipboard into shape. Clearly used cheap materials to save fuel consumption.

Simple, reliable, cheap - second time XTrail purchaser
Traded our old XTrail (2013 - last of the old school boxy shaped T31 ones) in for the brand spanking new 2022 equivalent (read: base model). We were just SO happy with everything our old one offered. The space in the old, classic 'boxy' design was the absolute winner for us, as was the weather proof boot lining that came standard. Clearly we weren't buying the XTrail for the 'looks', we were all about the practicality (however, I fell in LOVE with the squareness of the old one and I'm still rather sad to have said goodbye to it).
The new XTrai...Read more
l is much 'prettier' - more rounded and modern (but to me, it just looks like every other car on the road now). Personally, I feel this 'modernisation' of the exterior is at the expense of the old school features I loved the most about the classic XTrails. PROS + Has a reversing camera (unlike our old model) + Comfort & good looks + Fuel economy, insurance and ongoing costs are reasonable CONSPurchased in September 2021 at Nissan Dealers for $25,990.00.

Underrated all-rounder
Basic, but fantastic for around town or on long trips. Can easily fit 3 carseats across the back row, and the boxy design means the boot can be filled to the gills. Wipe down boot surface and what more can you need? Our growing family of 5 had 6 and a half outstanding years and 118,000kms in that car - so good, that we traded it in for a brand spanker. Glad we don't need more than two car seats in the new ones though - the fanciness of the new model has cost some interior space!

Ths sad truth - AC system and no responsibility by Nissan.
Nissan X Trail: CYP51H.
VIN: JN1TBNT32A0006482
Model: 2015 X Trail STL 4WD
I bought the car, new, and received a substantial Government discount due to the fact that I am a Vietnam Veteran and hold a TPI Gold Card from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The SUV has been an absolute gem apart from the fact that in November 2018 the Air Conditioning started to malfunction. After 20-25 minutes it would simply cut out. On my return home to Merimbula, I visited my Nissan dealer (Momsen Motors in Bega) and they also checked the AC. Again I visited them just prior to Christmas as the problem continued. They basically told me that it could be a figment of my imagination!Purchased in June 2021.

X-Trail ST 2008
Good Japanese car for city driving and limited off road.

Boot space is good, can carry a double mattress easily.
Electric Steering Wheels, no more power steering leaks.
Drive belts not exists and equipped with timing chain another less serviceable item.
Good ground clearance.

Lovely soft roader
Bought an unloved 200,000km 2012 ST for $5000.
Took it to the mechanic and got a clean bill of health.
It's a lot of fun off road.
I wouldn't push this as hard as my old Pajero but it's a lot of fun off road on the bush tracks next to the Murray where I live. Actually makes me smile and laugh as I'm bouncing around.
It's a thirsty beast. Uses about the same amount of fuel as my 3.8L V6 380.

Excellent!
Tested and compared all SUVs on the market and shortlisted to the Honda CRV, Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq. Settled on the Nissan due to its flexible storage / space and standard safety features that came at additional cost on other makes.
My Family are all very tall, the X-Trail definitely had the best space in class and rear bench also slides to give additional leg room. The boot under floor configuration allows flexible / hidable storage solutions and also has dedicated storage for the cargo cover.
We also fitted a Hayman Reese tow bar (...Read more
$650 install at Arrow Towers) and towed a 800kg Caravan (braked) for a few weeks, the transmission was excellent and fuel economy was surprising considering. The only concern experienced was the AEB on a few occasions engaged at slow speeds in a carpark, this was resolved Von Bibra Nissan, excellent service. In short, very good car, great space, standard safety features and best value for money.Purchased in January 2021 at Von Bibra.

Perfect family car
We have owned this car for about 8 months and I can’t fault it. We have a baby and a toddler and their seats fit comfortably in the back and an adult can sit between them (although it’s a bit cramped). The boot is huge and the telescopic back seat means we can choose between more boot space or more leg room depending on what we’re doing. I struggle to live without the 360 degree cameras in my other car now. A very comfortable and quiet drive and strong enough to tow a trailer. My only small gripe is the GPS system seems to send you on long and strange routes but I just use my iPhone map connected by Bluetooth.

SUV X Trail [The Game Changer]
When I got the approval from the boss [my wife] to go ahead in obtaining a SUV through work I was exited but then thought should something go wrong i'll be blamed for it.
I did initally look at the Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda CRV, Hyundai & Mazda CX5 but was too excited given that the first 3x didn't have much appear as for the Mazda CX 5 was just a bit too pricey for me and my family.
The Nissan X Trail is by far the ideal for someone who is wanting a smaller version of a 4WD with a small family. Handling of the car is great, fuel efficien...Read more
cy i.e. full tank last approx 2 weeks, spacious front and back [however having a baby seat may take up a bit of room at the back], key less start/entry feature is amazing, look of the car is sleek/modern & electronics are appealing to the everyday user. The only thing I would say about the electronics's i.e. blue tooth is that it lags just a bit but what car doesn't have those issues. I did hope for an electronic seat adjustment on the basic but can make do with it being the normal manual set up which is fine.Purchased in August 2021.

2005 X-Trail T30 Series II - Under-rated and often overlooked little workhorse...sometimes older is better
Just over 10 years ago now, we bought our first X-Trail. Since then we've owned 3, all petrol 2005 T30 models, and quite simply, whilst maybe not the best looking sort in the SUV line up, the pros far outweigh the cons for you to consider this as your family day tripper / weekend warrior.
Originally, our decision criteria was as follows: We wanted a vehicle to use for both the (new) family run about as well as a camping weekender/interstate mover, that was inexpensive on fuel, registration and insurance, and with loads of space for those big t...Read more
rips. Alongside the X-trail, the line up consisted of the Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V, Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Subaru's Forester. Although the pick of the bunch for offroad capability is the Vitara, we wanted something roomier. We decided to steer clear of the Honda due to $$$ and being the least capable off road. The Rav4 and Forester were close 2nd...both great offroad, the Forester had more boot space (amazingly) but the back seat had issues fitting 3 car seats and pretty squishy leg room, and the Rav4 lost points on the swing out rear door (same as the CR-V) and lack of interior space. Which leaves the X-Trail... We originally bought a manual 2005 ST-X, and as fun as the manual was to drive, we traded in for an automatic 2005 ST a couple months later due to the wife preferring auto transmission. With 78000 Km's on the clock, it was to become our go-everywhere for the next 9 years. Base model, however the previous owner kitted it out with roof racks, towbar, spotties, LED driving head lights, sway bar, and upgraded front disc brakes. Engine is a 4 cylinder 2.5 litre petrol variant with a 60 litre fuel tank, and a solid 132 kW of output. For a 4cyl engine, it's punchy, and it never let us down. Easy to service, generally inexpensive, we only ever had an issue with perished head rocker gasket at 245,0000 Km's. Fuel economy averages just over 9 - 10 litres/100 Km highway driving, just over 11 around town, depending on how much lead is in that driving foot of yours.Similar opinion? Surprisingly Brilliant!!!!
4 months into buying a new Nissan X-trail ST-L and I'm very happy with my choice of car.
There are a few included features in this car that I didn't think I'd need or use like heated seats for one. Oh my! Even though I live in a sub-tropical climate, those heated seats have been a true luxury, especially for my stiff lower back. The reverse camera is a must on any car but turn it on when you are squeezing into a tight park front first and it is indispensable. The vision around the car from the driver's seat is excellent and the space this car ...Read more

why is my 2006 petrol nissan x trail surging and losing power and engine light flickers on?
Then it goes away and drives good
But then it does it again
Car doesn't stall just no power
Any help would be much appreciated

I am not a mechanic but if you google the XTrail forum there is plenty of info there to read about this and other issues.
if the engine light is coming on it needs a tune up and new filters go and get it serviced
when Then engine flickers it is telling you there is something wrong. Dirty filters dirty /worn spark plugs, coils go & get a service
