My baby is on Novalac colic but still remains to get gas which make him cry so much and unsettled and is now constipated. Can I use novalac constipation formula for every alternate feed?

I would recomend to change the formula.
I have used both novalac colic and my baby still having a lot of gas and got constipated badly. He used to cry so much. I decided to buy Novalac constipation and after using 1 or 2 days he started to get runny poo every 2 hours.
I believe every child is different but this was my experience with both products.
I have change the formula to A2 1 premium. With this formula my baby is really happy.

I wouldn't use two formulas unless you are transitioning from one to the other (and then I did a ratio per bottle). I would try infants friend with every feed and a probiotic... thats what we ended up doing and it was a winning combo for us thankfully.

Hi. So been on this for 5 days now and mixed results - on the one hand my boy does seem to drink a bit more (about 100ml a day) BUT he's extremely gassy still and still screaming with pain before he needs to pass wind. I'm not sure if I should persist for another few days or try another formula? I'm still adding drops for gas into each feed, a probiotic and giving him a natural gripe water too

Hi. My little guy is 7 weeks old and has silent reflux. He's on meds for that but he's screaming in pain with gas. I want to try the novalac ac - but he feeds so little and it takes a really long time to feed anyway because of the reflux (about 45 minutes to take 60ml ). I've read that the novalac ac gets thick-any advice please?

I found that the novalac thickened more so after my son drank it rather then when he drank it. It did help settle him a lot as he had really bad reflux which has calmed down a lot after novalac. He did however drink novalac vedy quickly so i had to burp during the feed rather then at the end. Hope this helped

Hi Natalie
Thank you for the response. Perfect! I'm willing to try it and hopefully it helps my little guy too

I also found it was quite thin to drink but thickened later on and stopped some of the reflux, luckily didn't suffer that badly. But it did help.

Hi, my little one is 4wks old, we just changed from S26 gold to Novalac colic. I was wondering if it can be prepared with cool pre-boiled water or it has to be 40 degrees? He is used to drink his formula at room temperature.
Thanks

I always did this with my little man, he never liked warm milk jut make sure you don't keep the cooled boiled water longer than is recommended (12/24 hours from memory)

Hi VUYO
What I did was starting on Novalac colic for day and Novalac Sweet dreams for night time. I'm very happy with Novalac products. My baby hasnt been constipated at all it's maybe because I added 10 ml more water to the milk every now and then. Plus I tried Gripe Water for bloating and discomfort and it helped. I've heard it's good for constipation too.
I hope that helps.
Cheers

I am thinking of changing to this formula. As my little one 8 weeks, wriggles around after feeding, is only happy if she is sucking on bottle, dummy or sleeping. But even when sleeping something bothers her. And she has a very bloated belly. Has anyone else had these symptoms and this formula has Helped their little one?

I'd go see your gp just in case it's silent reflux or something else causing the bloating. Best to double check with them before switching formulas. We also found infants friend assisted so maybe ask about that too :) best of luck

Hi Rachl
My baby had the same symptoms and we asked friends with babies if they had the same problem and YES they did. They all changed to Novalac and are happy so that's why I gave it a try. I'm super happy with this formula. But it's just me. You can check with your gp first you make sure.
Good luck

Thank you for your answers I saw the gp yesterday he said it's trial and error. She is sleeping really well I'm scared to change in case it changes her sleep however while sleeping and while awake something really bothers her. Paediatrician said she has a lot of wind and she will grow out of it!! Hate it when they say that...I may give it a go.

Best to ask your doctor I can only advise from my experience, novalac is great to start from newborn it's specifically made for babies with gas and colic, my girl was also mixed BF and formula as she's lactose intolerant, this caused bad gas and bloating, I used Novalc Colic (make sure it's the COLIC one) and infants friend drops purchase over the counter at any chemist, the difference was amazing and the change was instant, hope you find what works it's really hard but you get there

Hello
Has your son still got Colic? I weaned my daughter off this formula when she was 4.5 months old. Started off with 3/4 Mayalac 1/4 new regular forumla then slowly increased it over a 3 week period until she was completly off Novalac as she didn't have colic anymore.

The formula was brilliant for my daughter's colic but there was no need to keep her on it since she had outgrown her colic. She was quiet gassy/uncomfortable during the transition period but after a couple of weeks her gut has got used to the increased lactose levels in regular forumla.

Good luck!

Its up to your judgment, I tried at 7months and it was horrible I tried Novalac sweet dreams, she struggles to digest full lactose formula gets really gassy, tried this for a week and it didn't work for us..she became unsettled and very gassy was screaming through the night, needless to say I went back to Novalac colic and she returned to normal,il be sticking with it till she no longer needs formula.

I spoke to novalac directly and they didn't recommend doing this as they said each formula type is made of different proportions of ingredients and one should never mix one with another even if it's the same brand as it could cause issues.

Hey, I've just started DS 4wk old on Novalac colic as he suffers colic, he's recently started being constipated, I know this is quite common with this formula. His colic seems better it's just that he's in pain now while trying to poop :( I'm at my wits ends as to what to do, he's only been on for 2 days. Do I wait it out a bit longer or change formula?

Hey
I would persist with this formula. I always add an extra 10 mls of water per scoop. E.g 3 scoops with 120 mls of water instead of 90mls. I have been doing this since she was 4 weeks old. Baby is now 10 weeks old and has not had a problem with painful pooing but sometimes her poo is quite firm but she is thriving and not bothered when taking a dump ha.

I honestly love this formula and recommended it to so many people and it really does change your baby.

Tamika91

Thanks so much for your response. I have been adding an extra 20 mls of water to a 120ml bottle, but I might try just adding 10mls extra per scoop. I do also use infants friend with every bottle!
I'll stick it out for a little longer and just hope it gets better it's just really hard seeing bubby in pain

Hi I read your review of novalec colic and I'm in the exact same predicament! 4 week old baby and using for 2 days now but already baby's stools changed. I My 4 week old daughter stools went into solid pieces and freaked me out a bit. I'm concerned it might lead to constipation and last night she was the most upset and unsettled she had ever been. It's been only 2 days using the new formula and didn't want to give up on trying it. However didn't want her to go through constipation either. She is gassy in her stomach and very uncomfortable. How are you going now? Do you recommend persisting? Any feedback would be great thanks. I have gone back to Nan comfort first but after reading your review you say that you need to stick to out and it gets better,? What do the stools look like now? Fully solid still? I thought that was a sign of being constipated..Thanks again!

My baby boy is 7 weeks old tomorrow and has been suffering from colic for about 4 weeks. We were only just been recommended Novalac Colic from our GP. It's been about 24 hours now and there has been a massive difference. He no longer seems to be in as much pain. We also have him on the Coloxyl drops as he was suffering from constipation with his last formula and we were told it can worsen with the colic formula from Novalac. The biggest difference I am noticing which is starting to concern me is the fact that he falls asleep through every single feed since he has started on it. Is this normal?

My son only did that when I first put him on it, I think it was because he'd missed out on so much sleep while having colic that he fell asleep while he was a happy and content baby.

That's funny! It sounds like he is settling well on it and getting in some extra sleep (which babies with both colic and reflux don't always get, but need)!
It's common at that age for him to sleep after a bottle, even now my son will sometimes fall asleep on his bottle and have a good nap!

That's what my partner originally suggested but wanted some second opinions :) good to know others have experienced similar things! It's only early days so I'm sure he has lots of sleep to catch up on!

Hi my 7 week old suffers really bad colic and reflux can I use the novolac constipation formula as well as the colic so she doesn't end up constipated again?

You cant mix them in the same bottle as they are different powders but can give a feed of constipation formula each day, and then might have to increase the number of constipation feeds vs colic feeds to make baby comfortable. It helped with his vomitting too although that may have come with his growth anyway, but i did notice he sometimes had a cough before vomitting after the colic formula so i think it either wasnt dissolved properly (water has to be warm enough) and irritated his throat or it was stomach acid, again couldve just coincided with his growth. Hope it all helps your bub!

Hey Kylie,
My daughter suffers colic and reflux as well. We are using losec for the reflux as per the pediatrician and I use infacol in her bottle. The novolac colic formula worked but have her bad constipation. I tried 5 different formulas before now having her on Aptimal Gold stage 1 and I add about 1/2 teaspoon of thickener and infacol to her bottle and it works a treat. Every baby is different though but maybe consider changing formula if it's giving your bun constipation. Good luck
