Great product, more so for every day use
I have never had cold sore, so I really don't need to worry about the active ingredients, this cream is the best I've found to actually protect the lips. Especially when they are already injured.
Purchased in May 2021 at Terry White Chemmart for A$9.99.

The formula has changed!
I've bought this product regularly for many, many years, not for cold sores but because I get terrible hay fever and this product would soothe my red, sore nostrils and burning lips like nothing else.
I bought a tube last week and not only has the volume of product changed, BUT the price hasn't, the formula has changed as well. It is watery and not creamy and thicker like it used to be, the taste is foul and where has the menthol gone?? I'm very disappointed and won't be purchasing this again.
Edited to add: Ah ha! I see from reading further...Read more
reviews that Nyal actually have TWO versions of this! The antiviral one was what I bought, not realising that the one I usually purchase is the 10g tube, which is not the one labelled Anti Viral. Thank goodness it's still made! I'm off to buy the real deal at Chemist Warehouse.Purchased in February 2021 at Woolworths Online store.

Effective and good value
Not rocket science.
Nyal cold sore cream 10 gm contains camphor and menthol.
No anti viral activity, but will offer some local relief of symptoms.
Nyal Anti Viral Cold Sore Cream contains acyclovir (same ingredient if Zovirax), but cost for Nyal is about $1.50/gm against $7.50/gm for Zovirax.
In my former pharmacy life, I could make the same strength acyclovir cream for about 20 cents/gm!
Methinks, Zovirax is making a killing!
Purchased at Woolworths for A$7.50.

Too thin..not as good as zovirax
The base is way too thin.it dosnt stay on the lips at all.zovirax is way better..what was Nyal thinking..it's not even as effective as other brands because it's like water.
Purchased in August 2021 at Woolworths for A$7.00.

Old cream is excellent
Old cream with Camphor and Menthol is excellent and Works but I can’t find it in Woolworth or Coles anymore. The new antiviral one is Rubbish and doesn’t work at all.
Purchased in January 2021.

Have been using Nyal Cold Sore Cream for more years than I care to remember. Use the cream to prevent my lips from drying out and cracking and is the only product I can use without breaking out in cold sores.
However recently have noticed the cream is lucky to stay on my lips for more than a few minutes.
Has the recipe changed?
Has something been added?
Please bring back the cream which stays on my lips longer.
Or at least tell me where I can get it.
Thanks.

Talk about answering your own question.
Read some of the previous comments and saw the 10gm Nyal Cold Sore Cream was still available. So I checked out the chemist and there it is. The good old thick cream which stays on your lips, which softens your lips and doesn't add to the issue of dry cracked blistered sore lips. Thank you thank you thank you. Please keep producing Nyal Cold Sore Cream. Won't say it is worth its weight in gold, however when you gently apply it to lips which have been making you feel like you want to rip them off your face ... HEAVEN. thank you.

On the tube of the new Nyal Antiviral Cold Sore Cream 5g it reads "See your doctor before using this product if you are considering pregnancy, pregnant or breastfeeding" and that's standard practice for most pharmaceutical things these days. Cold sores are transmittable and I took extra care with hygiene when my daughter was born.
