Terrible broom

published

My Oats straw broom fell apart within two to three weeks. I used it to sweep footpaths at my home about twice a week. This broom is an absolute waste of money.

Extremely disappointed

This is my 3rd Oates 8 tie broom in 3 years and this one didn't last 6 months. My 6 yr old broom is still a better option. My problem is nothing to do with the millet quality/weight/amount. It is the paltry system of wiring that attaches the millet to the broom handle that is the problem. Sadly Oates seems to be the only outside broom option available and they are hopeless now. I have photographed my old 6 yr old Oates broom with my 6 month old Oates broom but seems that I cannot post the photo. I tried taping the millet to hold it in place but even that failed. Very poor quality!!!!

Waste of money

published

The straw broom is less than one year old and is rarely used. The straw head fell apart at the connection to the broom handle. My last broom lasted years. Don't waste your money on this broom.

Hopeless!

This 8-tie Oates millet broom lasted about three uses before the broom started to lose stability on the handle. Now all the millet is breaking and it's just a matter of time before the whole thing falls apart. Unbelievably poor quality and/or design!!!

Millet Blend Broom Range

The 7tie straw broom starts to swivel the head then snaps the handle away. This broom is lucky to be 1 month old. This is now the second broom this has happened to in a short time.
What will your company do about this for us?

Maree,

our 7 tie broom was replaced by Oates with an 8 tie broom, not because the handle broke, but because the quality of the millet was disgusting. The 8 tie is not much better I'm afraid.

Oates response to my disappointment was "good millet is hard to come by".

If the handle is not screwed very tightly into the broom head, the head will swivel. My suggestion (once it is screwed in tightly) is to screw a couple of screws through the head into the handle. I take it the handle broke where the plastic screw section is (badly) secured into the handle. HTH.

ps: is there a lot of good millet in the broom or is the centre full of woody pieces. Our 7 tie had more woody bits than the 8 tie.
