My first pool cleaner works well
We have our first pool and I was looking at Robotic cleaners until I realised the huge cost to get a good one. After seeing the reviews here I decided to start with an Onga Hammerhead. I followed the instructions and installed it in the pool. I couldn't believe how well it worked out. It picked up small stones, dirt, leaves, twigs and other bits from the pool build process.
It doesn't clean the ledge or steps but I can brush these and the Hammerhead can clean the debris off the floor. I purchased the cleaner and leaf strainer online at the ...Read more
pool and spa warehouse in the morning and couldn't believe it arrived the following day. The price was good as well. I have no idea how the Hammerhead works, but in my 9x4.5 fibreglass pool it picked up 99.9% of the floor debris. I didn't give it 5 stars as it can be a little fiddly to fine tune (mine initially wouldn't clean one corner) but after adjusting the pool jets as per the instructions it was fine. Rush out ! (And get one).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It works !!!!!
Bought this from a friend whom had trouble making it work in his pool due to the very tight radius of his corners where wall and floor meet,
We dropped it into my pool and it hasn't missed a beat, hasn't been stuck once but palm nuts have blocked it on one occasion,
My pool hasn't looked so clean in years !!!

Loves Corners
Bought the Hammerhead based on reviews on this site, Constantly stuck in corners......spent hours adjusting the suction, adjusted weights, makes no difference whatsoever......not really an automatic cleaner if you have to follow it around......quicker to clean the pool manually than to have to constantly move this. An absolute waste of money.
Update: Tried adjusting for a week......This cleaner does not work if your pool has tight corners or tight edges from walls to bottom of the pool.....we installed this in a friends pool tonight, a po...Read more
ol with "rounded" corners/edges and it worked very well.....I've been fortunate and my friend has purchased from me......this may explain the either 5 star or 1 star ratings.......if your pool has tight corners then avoid, otherwise it is fine.....Similar opinion? Onga Hammerhead vacuum pool cleaner
I have similar problems with my Hammerhead pool cleaner but the main problem that I am currently experiencing is that I cannot get it to lay flat on the bottom of the pool; I experimented with the weight that clips on the hose, I moved it up & down but eventually it seemed better just not to use it at all. When I first started using the Hammerhead I thought that it was better & less trouble than the Zodiac that I had before, but over time it is giving me problems. I just wish there was such a thing as a trouble free pool vacuum system at an affordable price but there just doesn't seem to be. I will keep searching & trying to find something better.

Onga Hammerhead and Palm Seeds
I previously had a Zodiac X7 pool cleaner and as mentioned by several reviewers, the diaphragm in that cleaner gets blocked by seeds that drop from palm trees. My X7 got to the end of its useful life and I looked for a replacement that would not get similarly blocked.
Based on reviews here and other places, it looked like the Onga Hammerhead was the best solution (other than maybe robotic cleaners, but they were reported to have other problems).
Well, it turns out that the Hammerhead unfortunately also gets blocked by the same palm seeds ...Read more
at approximately the same rate as the old X7. My palm's seeds are a bit larger than marble size and get stuck in the hammer mechanism, bringing the cleaner to a halt. It takes quite a bit of manipulation to remove a stuck seed. It also seem to want to get stuck on the hydrostatic valve thing in the deepest part of my pool, somethig my previous cleaner did not do. The cleaner does have some positive attributes. When not blocked, it will run (slowly) on the lowest speed setting of my 3-speed eco pump, something that may challenge other cleaners. It also seems to get stuck in corners slightly less frequently than my X7 but it still does get stuck occasionally, so I have to check every 15 or 20 minutes when it is running. I also like the semi-transparent hose as I can see the leaves travelling along and that gives me some satisfaction.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It sucks in a good way
I recently purchased an Onga Hammerhead based off the generally good reviews I read on this site. I replaced a worn out Kreepy Krauly that was too hit and miss with its results. Must say I have only had the Hammerhead for a few weeks but very impressed so far. Gets everywhere, walls and even steps and spends a lot of time at the furthest part of my 75m3 pool unlike the KK that enjoyed the deeper water near the skimmer boxes. Has not been caught up anywhere yet just keeps punching along. It is also really quite which was a bonus. Will have to wait and see how it goes with the large amount of leaves I get after a very windy day.

Waste of time
We can have our cover on our pool for 4 days with the cleaner on twice a day, when the cover comes off, the pool is a mess. Hardly sucks at all, cleans in one spot, waste of time, we are off to buy a new one.

Works well
This is the first cleaner I have used as new to pool ownership, so checked out the reviews on here to choose. Very glad I did as it hasnt missed a beat since installation. I had to get the pool guy to install it as the instructions didnt seem to match what I had. He originally turned his nose up at it and told me he didnt think it would work. 2 months later and he is eating his words! I havent had to clean the pool once, it is spotless. Cant hear it and it doesnt get stuck, though it does seem to attack you if you swim whilst it is on!

Best pool cleaner ever
I recently replaced my zodiac G2 with the Hammerhead and couldn't be happier. I was forever replacing parts only to find it would constantly just stop for no reason. I read the reviews from this site and I liked the great reviews of the Onga Hammerhead. I bought my Hammerhead from Pool and Spa Direct for $295 and can't believe the value. It was the best price, I received it on express courier later that same day and they also through a little gift in the box. I don't usually write reviews but this pool cleaner is the best pool cleaner I have ever had.

Very Happy With My Onga Hammerhead
Purchased the Onga Hammerhead because of reviews on this site and I'm glad I did! Was quoted $750 plus by local shop but bought online from Pool and Spa Warehouse for $315 (delivered the next day and I live in the country so this is very impressive! Our mail doesn't even get here that quickly!)
It cleans so well, even walls and steps. Picks up leaves no problems, no tangles with the hose, it does get stuck on one corner near the steps but only about once per week. Mine comes on every evening from 4pm to 11pm so if this is the only time I have to 'rescue' Onga, then I'm happy!!!!
Very very happy with it's cleaning performance, and my landlord commented how lovely my pool is looking too!
Would definitely recommend the Onga Hammerhead

Good, cleans well but needs adjustment!
We have been using the Hammerhead for about 2 months now and I am really impressed with its simple operation. It actually works well and picks up all those leaves. The only issue is trying to get the cleaner to cover the whole pool area, our pool is a 50,000 L average size and you will need to adjust the weights provided. I was using a Zodiac T5 cleaner which would get stuck in the corners, not the hammer head. I would recommend the Hammerhead if you require a cheaper cleaner, it does work good.

3 Stars!
I gave this 3 stars because it is like having a Child in your pool!...It requires supervision!....It will clean your pools floor well but that's it!It won't do steps or side ledging at all and will get stuck in corners. In fact as I'm writing this it has just got stuck in a corner!Doesnt work well under a pool cover either! And my kids don't like to swim with it in the pool! However I knew this before buying the Onga!...And having a limited budget at the time for a pool cleaner I purshased this one just to get through the Summer!.....Or until we c...Read more
an afford a decent robotic cleaner(Dolphin or Hayward)! So if your after a cheap chuck away cleaner get this one!....But my neighbour got a Baracuda which does move faster and climbs better but has more moving parts! The Hammerhead only has one moving part but requires supervision! So if your on a budget get this if not but a Dolphin or Hayward Robitic cleaner!.......This is no exception to any other product out there "You buy cheap you buy twice"!!!Similar opinion? Good first impression
Only had the Onga Hammerhead for about a week or so but a very good first impression so far. Bought it from direct pool supplies at Cardiff (Newcastle) who were kind enough to throw in a couple of extra lengths of hose for my 10m pool, as well as an adapter for my skimmer box. After plugging in and adding the hose weights and setting the suction "speed" as per the instructions, the cleaner seemed to start working perfectly straight away with no further adjustments needed. Having the pool jets already aimed correctly already from the previous cleaner (Barracuda) probably helped.

Great Value Cleaner
Really happy with the Hammerhead pool cleaner. I bought the Hammerhead online from Dads Pool Shop after doing plenty of research. Unlike my old T5 Baracuda, the Hammerhead never gets stuck in corners and cleans the pool beautifully. Great product, great price and great service!

Great value product
I have had 3 Barracuda cleaners over 14 yrs and have tired of replacing parts, so decided it was time for a change. With the help of reviews here I purchased the hammerhead online for under $300 in NSW and it was in Brisbane 2 days later. (My local pool shop was asking $479, loyalty can only go so far). Assembled easy and with a few minor adjustments to flow and weight position it hasn't missed a beat for 2 months, it is also much quieter than my old cleaner. Cleans the whole pool including walls. It comes with 10 lengths of hose and I needed 1...Read more

I noticed one morning before it started that it was on it's back, left it there and when it started it just rolled over and away it went. Does the adjustable regulator valve need to be fully submerged or can it sit half way out of water
2 answers
The small "flap" that the adjuster knob stiffens or releases to control the flow needs to be below the waterline. If it's not it will suck air into the filter system. The adjuster knob can sit out of the water.
Thank you Grant.
I got it all sorted on my own.... working like a champion now. I was very proud of myself haha
Ross Pasked
The Hammerhead in my concrete pool regularly comes up the side of the pool and stops above the waterline, sucking air for about 30 secs. until it falls back into the water and does nothing until the air goes through the system and begins to function normally again. Any ideas on how I can fix this ?
Thanks
3 answers
This is usually what happens when there's too much suction. Use your flow gauge to check. To reduce the amount of suction, turn the adjustable regulator valve until the suction is within the "Maximum" and "Minimum" range.
Ok,thanks Grant.I'll adjust that & see if it behaves itself. Im new to this pool maintenance thing so its a bit of a learning curve.
Hey Ross. Adjusting suction didn't seem to help mine. Instead I've now put one of the provided weights onto the first piece of hose closest to the suction head and it about 95% successful with the out of water issue now very rare. Its a bit of trial and error to find the right spot on the piece of hose.
