Disappointed by latest ingredients discovery
This food claims to benefit dogs health in a lot of different ways and was the very reason I was trailing this on my Toy Poodle x Havanese...however I discovered that they use BHA and BHT as the antioxidants in the formula. They don't state this specifically in the ingredients - only written as 'antioxidants'
I am health conscious about my dogs and BHA and BHT are artificial chemicals used to preserve foods and prevent oxidization of fats and oils (hence the word antioxidant) these chemicals considered to be carcinogenic.
Unfortunately I won'...Read more
t be purchasing Optimum's dry food products again unless they change out the BHA and BHT for natural antioxidants. I have thrown the current bag into the bin. The 100gm trays of wet food for dogs by Optimum was also a disappointment as they gave my dogs diarrhea and they hated them. Noses turned up. Looks like Optimum won't be in my shopping trolley for a long time!Purchased in March 2021 at Big W Retail Stores for $17.00.

No problem for 2 years
My Maltese has been having this brand for 2 years without problems. Though it’s not the most appetising food to it at all.

Not a problem for 11 years.
My mini poodle has eaten this for 11 years as a supplement to chicken necks and wings. She has been perfectly healthy all her life and at 11 years of age she still has the energy of a puppy. If I change her diet, she either won't eat it or throws it up. Hence, am very happy with Optimum Adult small breeds and would recommend it to anyone with a small dog. As a puppy she was eating the Optimum Puppy dry food.

My dog really enjoys it.
My dog has been eating it for years and also hasn't suffered from any problems that some owners have reported. Spoke to vet re product advised no problems, the product is also recommended by vet Chris Brown.

Grain!
My Miniature Schnauzer loves this food but I have recently seen comments about Schnauzers should not be having any grain in their food. I looked at the pack and see that Optimum has grain in it. Don't know what to do.

Optimum dry dog food
My 2 dogs hate this product and flat out refuse to eat it. Even when I leave it overnight and they are really hungry, they still won't touch it the following morning.
I purchased it based on the fact it's endorsed by a vet and there were positive reviews from people who have purchased it.
When I offered it to friends with dogs they told me their dogs didn't like it either.
I bought 2 x 7kg bags of this stuff so I've just blown $56. Needless to say, I am totally ticked off.

The packaging isnt recyclable ??
My dog eats it, and didnt suffer from any of the skin rashes that other dog owners reported.. but its 2013 guys and were a first world and (fingers crossed) progressive and eco responsible population .. so I'd like to know why Optimum isn't using recyclable packaging and wont be buying it again until they do.
Non recyclable packaging

Caused my dog severe skin reaction
I brought this product from the supermarket as i was in a rush a couldn't get his normal Science Diet range at the pet store and he immediately developed a skin issue - the poor thing didnt like us touching him - it took us a little while to work out that this product was the cause so took him straight off and he recovered within a week. We have just been away and our house sitter fed him some from the old pack and it returned again....threw it away this time
Gave my dog a rash!

The side effects No one told me about this product, causes skin irritations
I have a generally fit and healthy Shih Tzu who eats only healthy choices. i decided to give OPTIMUM a try after 6 months of using, he broke out in red itchy hives and sores that would cause him to itch until he bleed or oozed puss. i blamed it on the breed, grasses, pollens etc. after having him tested (very expensive!!) it turned out to be his food causing the allergies. I will never use any of these products again. im sorry but they are filled with nasty 'By-Products'......
Dr Chris Brown recommends this product, i thought he would be trustworthy :(
poor quality food, its cheap but nasty!

Happy dog happy life
My dog just loves the dry food. He eats every day and never get sick of it. I love that we can get it from the supermarket with no problems at all. The vet also approved the food and said it was just as good as the food he sold.
Vet approved, doggy bank account friendly

Excellent
Optimum Adult small to medium breeds is a great formulated dog food. It helps with less calories for those more obesity prone smaller dogs. My dogs love the taste of it, and it smells good. It is an affordable, higher end supermarket brand pet food.
Love this product.

Optimum is great tasting food for the fussy eaters in my house
I have two dogs, fussy little beggers, and they love optimum. They spit out each piece of any other food i try to put in the bowl, combined with the optimum. They pick each piece up, check out if it is optimum, then if not, just spit it out on the floor, so mum can sweep it up.
So thoughtful, my girls.
I would recommend this product thats for sure. They l-o-v-e it.
I dont eat it, but my dogs love the taste of it, and it is the only one they will eat

Yummy food for my dog
Dusky, my 1 year old japanese spitz eats this dog food everyday, two times a day without complaining. I think that it has delicious taste and they digest it very well. For over a year I have not seen Dusky vomiting or losing his appetite for food. I am so thankful with Optimum, good product.
my dog likes the food

My 2J/Russells eating healthy nutritional pet food.
After trying all dog food including from the vet and trying to cater for sensitive stomach for one of my dogs.I have made the change to optimum without guilt and buying it from the supermarket when I do weekly shop.it's affordable plus easy to use instead of turning the feeding time into cooking and this one only has this, this one has that.my dogs love eating healthy food that tastes good.
Easy to use and guilt free on nutrition

Best choice I made!
I've had Chihuahuas for over 40 years. Originally I fed them on home-cooked food, then Eukanuba but this became way too expensive. I started them on Optimum when I first saw it on the Supermarket shelf and they took to it immediately. Same amount as Eukanuba but a lot less expense! They didn't lose condition and best of all small, firm stools. I only have 2 little ones now, 14y/o and 15y/o, they're fed on the Puppy Dry Food - once daily in hot weather but twice daily in winter, and they're still happy, healthy and alert.
Inexpensive and energy efficient.

OPTIMUM Adult Small-Medium Breeds has a nurient list on the package that compares favorably with the dearer brands.
The main reason I buy it though is because our poodle has voted it her absolute favorite and maintains great condition when she has OPTIMUM Adult Small-Medium Breeds dogfood in her bowl to feed at her own rate, she is never overweight and she will actually loose weight if we change brands from this one,
Everything, our dog loves it and keeps in great condition on it.
Not available in every store. We travel and I have learned to carry a spare large pack of it so we do not run out.
