    Sound good, battery poor

    published

This is my second Oricom Baby monitor as the first completely died after 2 years of use. The previous one would only lasts 1hr at best off the charge whilst this one lasts a bit longer. I like it because its simple, I don't need a camera nor do I need the room temperature (the previous model had this and it was CONSTANTLY waking us up to tell us that the temp had reached 18 or 23 degrees).

Excellent, can even hear my baby move

    published

The only thing I don't like about this baby monitor is its green light (indicates baby and parent units are linked). The light is super bright at night and disturbs my sleep (it's of course on my bedside table, next to my face - where else?). Other than that, can't fault it! Very easy to set up too, just turn it on and off you go.

Easy to set up and install. Night light could be good for older kids, although the green light on the baby unit could also work as a night light.

    Very Happy

    published

Love this monitor - sound is so clear and easy to use. Love the night light. Our house power went off one night and the parent unit immediately beeped to wake me up, letting me know the connection was broken. Very reassuring! Also small enough so it doesn't take up a lot of room in our small apartment.

Good Range, Good Sound - Great!

    published

Just bought this and it's fantastic. It's based on cordless phone technology I think - sound is great and range is great. I walked out of the house and about 50m down the street (measured on Google), I could hear, although the sound was starting to break up a bit.

The baby unit is plugin only, but has a long cord, maybe 2m or so. The parent unit is rechargeable via plug to wall. So far has lasted at least 3 hours without charge and the batteries are rechargeable AAs so can easily be replaced.

I was going to get the SC520 but from other reviews it sounds like the LCD screens die after a couple of years and do I really need to know what temperature it is? Nah.

Oh and 3 year warranty was the final sell.

Is this one of those stupid cut in / cut out monitors or is the sound always on?

No, I've never had a problem with sound. The range is great and no static either. If I can see the green 'Link' light on, I know that there's no problems with hearing my child. Hope this helps.

Hi there, thanks for the question. The SC320 DECT is a great monitor that allows for sound to be turned off on the parent unit by lowering the volume, and allows users to utilise Cry Alerts to activate the parent unit when sound from the baby unit reaches a threshold. The crying alert will only be activated if the Parent unit loudspeaker volume has been switched off. With the volume muted, if your baby starts to cry you will not be able to hear the cries but if the cries sound above a certain level i.e. if they reach 83dB, which is the 1st red Baby sound level LED, then the Parent unit will emit an audible beep. We hope this helps, however if you have any other questions, please feel free to give Oricom Customer Support a call on 1300 889 785 Mon-Fri 8am-6pm AEST, as they will be able to assist you in this. Thanks and all the best, Oricom Baby Care.

Hi Jessica, thanks for the message. As cited in the user guide, this might help you:

    • check that the mains power is plugged in and switched on at the Baby unit
    • check that both units are switched on
    • check that the batteries are charged in the Parent unit
    • check that the Parent and Baby units are within range of each other (in ideal conditions the range is up to 300 metres outdoors and 50m indoors)

If you are satisfied with the above, then we recommend that you give Oricom Customer Support a call on 1300 889 785 Mon-Fri 8am-6pm AEST, as they will be able to assist in troubleshooting the issue and will work to provide you with a solution. All the best, Oricom Baby Care.

Can you explain what the 'sound sensitive light display' feature actually is?

Hi Orontes, This refers to the LED lights which indicate the level of received sound. The LEDs will light up progressively as the sound increases. The lights are located across the top of the front of the parent unit. This is good for indicating sound level in the nursery when monitoring in a noisy environment (e.g. with a TV on) or when the sound on the parent unit is turned down. Best regards, Oricom Baby Care
