please put my mind to rest

I bought the DA 1000 for my wive for Christmas .. so far so good.
I read that the strainer, or mesh is the weak link and that it is grossly overpriced. Service seems rude and greedy when approached to replace this weak item. Unless that is the disappointed customer makes mention on Product review.
Im curious to know if there has been any improvement on this part or is it still the same cheaply made strainer, possibly designed to break for its resale value.
And will the customer service team respect customers who have bit the bullet and bought the machine should they contact them directly and not via Product Review or similar avenue?

I wish to submit an update, There are two similar parts that come with the machine, one is for juicing and the other for nut butters etc, I can appreciate that the strainer would break if you use the juicing strainer with course nutty ingredients.

Love my Oscar but trying to get a replacement juicer barrel is a nightmare. No one has any stock. No one can even give me an eta on getting one. Told they have been on back order for months and the supplier is continually promised they will be supplied but they don't arrive. Very poor service. I paid a bucket load for this juicer but didn't mind because I was assured that every piece of it could be replaced if needed. Not much point having a lifetime warranty on the motor if you can't get hold of replacement parts. How much is my Oscar Neo worth? $45 - the cost of the part. Without it, the juicer is worthless. And all for the sake of a poorly run business. Great product. Rubbish business.

part broke after one month

published

The juicer is good but after only using it for one month, the strainer cracked and then split completely. It isn't very good for such a small amount of time using it. it isn't easy getting help about claiming warranty either. i find it takes a long time to cut up all the fruit and veg smaller enough to fit down the feeding chute. next time i will probably get a wider chute juicer.

Best ever!

After using centrifugal juicers for 35 years I have discovered Oscar Neo and the quality of juice is exceptional. Do not be in a hurry as the juicing is slow and will take more time as you need to make produce smaller to fit in feeder, but you will be so happy with the juice quality.

The postage of the item was very prompt and the machine is better than my old juicer in every way. The power and ease of cleaning is outstanding!

Happy customer

I chose this juicer after reading lots of reviews. I was looking for something that could happily juice greens - something that my previous juicer (a Champion 2000) struggled with. I am not disappointedI By far the best juicer I've had. Easy to use and easy to clean and with a long warranty. The pulp is fairly dry and the juice is excellent. Vitality-4-life had the best prices and the ordering process was painless and delivery was quick. All in all I'm a very happy customer.

Excellent product, which was bought as an Ex-Demo. Arrived in perfect condition. Really loved the juice produced by this juicer compared to a centrifugal juicer. Drank the entire first batch of juice I made in one go. I'd recommend this product to anyone.

broken after about a dozen uses

Worked well at first until a plastic component cracked, luckily we noticed it before any plastic shards went into my children's juice...took it back to harvey norman for a refund and they took the machine to 'see what they can do'. Not impressed by a $500 plus juicer. That was some expensive juice!

Tough it is.

This cold press juicer has to date (6months) lived up to its hype and is great for citrus. I regularly juice 40 lemons at a time including most of the rind.
Very easy to clean and to use.
Only drawbacks are the poor instruction book which does not detail the numbered filter dial and the small dia. feed to the auger which requires you to slice pieces thinner.
Nice long guarantee too, 20 years and 5 years on parts. Hope not to use that feature.
Juice is nice but with lemons tend to get separation between 2 layers irrespective of numbered filter setting - maybe density of lemon skin and pith.

It was great for about a month...

Then one day I heard a cracking sound from inside when I was making my juice ( I believe it was the lime skin, which they recommend you put through the juicer)
Later I found a big crack in the strainer. I have emailed the company, and so far all I have had is an automated response that I am in a queue waiting to be responded to.... this was a week ago.
I have always followed the instructions to a T, and hand washed the parts.
I just wish I had bought it from a store that would honour the warranty.
All I can say, is they must have a lot of problems if they don't have time to respond to their customers...

Good, but not for long

Juicing strainer cracked after 11 months of careful use. Fought hard to get a replacement, should have been under warranty.2nd juicer cracked after 9 months of using exactly as instruction book states. Under 2yr old, still in warranty, meant nothing.very difficult company to deal with. All blame was put back onto user. In frustration had to buy the 3rd juicer strainer at $45. Cracked after 10 days. could not handle 10 cent pc of ginger cut into 4 small pieces.Clearly a design or plastic component issue. Luckily it was purchased thru Myer, who honoured the warranty.

Great cold press juicer

published

I had a much cheaper version of the Oscar that cost around $200 for six years. It was ok, but the plastic housing shattered last week so I bit the bullet and got the Oscar Neo (black colour on sale from sprout organic $399). It is a MUCH better unit! The components go together better, it's much better quality and the pulp is sawdust dry which equals more juice, and it cleans up quicker. I'm very happy with the juicer :) I took off a star for the amount of prep I have to do due to the narrow feeder, otherwise this would have gotten five stars. Also, an explanation of what number to set the pulp dial to for different fruits and veg would have been helpfull eg. 5 for carrots. Mel.

Pretty Good Slow Press Juicer

published

As the marketing claims, it does make juices that separates much much slower - keeping the consistency there, good to use to bottle for work etc. wife makes her favourite blueberry ginger celery and beetrot juicer. Bit slow for daily use but great to have if you like juices. Quiet reliable and pulp is pretty dry.

Doesn't handle oranges, pineapple and strawberriess really well.

published

Recently bought this juicer and I am very satisfied the way it juicers carrots, beetroot, apples and other hard vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately trying to juice strawberries or oranges, the juice gets stuck in the drum and on the auger and the juicing strainer gets blocked. It is really frustrating. Also you need to chop the fruits into small pieces where there are other juicers on the market which can chop the whole vegetables and and make juice straight away without the hassle.

Overall good juicer despite the juicing strainer and drum get blocked while juicing oranges, strawberries, pineapple or watermelon.

A year on and going strong

published

I've had my Oscar Neo for probably a year now and its still going strong and I use it probably every day for making dips, juices, nut flour and butter and sorbet's with frozen fruit, cubes of frozen coconut cream and activated nuts (kids just love to help out with and eat). When juicing there is a build up of fibrous material but I just clear it as I can make a litre at a time and keep it for 2 days fresh. Its amazing and worth the money as it also spurred me on to being healthier in everything else.
its quiet, makes me eat healthier, juice really lasts 48 hours and Sorbets are great entertainment for kids
Have to pull fibres material from the core but I am juicing a lot so its understandable and still better than centrifugal

I see that vitality4life has started taking some responsibility for parts that fail very early. I wonder if I ask nicely if they will now consider sending ME a new screen?

Shame about the after sales service

published

The machine whilst it works was great. having had it for 2 months the juice strainer cracked. A clear warranty case you would think . Not according to V4L . I have reminded them of the consumer code that puts the onus on them to show that it was not a manufacturing or design defect. Given the number of cases here it looks to be a clear defect.
High quality juice, realitvely quiet operation.
Broke quickly and V4L trying to avoid warranty obligation

Hi There can I mince meat with this machine? Thanks

Vitality L.Oscar

Hi Blair. It most certainly can 'mince' meat. It will not be like the mince you get from the butcher but using the 'mincing strainer' you can put anything almost in there and it will come out 'minced'. I use my Oscar all the time for mincing. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Kindest, Michelle | Vitality 4 Life

I have an Oscar DA1000 and can't find anywhere to purchase a new strainer (new or #2). I love the juicer but can't use it till I find a replacement strainer. ????

Hi Sue, the place to buy the strainer is Vitality4life but buy in bulk as they continually break. Hubby and I have been using the Oscar juicers for nearly 20 yrs but the model we bought a couple of years ago just kept breaking the strainer. I lost count how many strainers I bought! I would keep cutting the vegetables smaller and smaller but they kept breaking. So had to ditch the Oscar for another brand of juicer. Good luck :-))

Mine was the same brand as yours

Sharon J

I had the same issue is Jo S. but found that www.vitality4life.com.au were very helpful. It is a fault with the machine but I have got a new clear plastic bit (whatever the drum thing is called), along with a new strainer, the new strainers are a bit sturdier but I am still yet to see that this will be the solution (and I don't want to jinx it), they really need to make the strainer with more metal parts to be sturdier, I live for my juices, so I don't like being without it- good luck!

Is anyone having problems with Oscar Neo DA 1000 screens breaking with minimal use

Hello Brontie, we have been using the Oscars for nearly 20 yrs and had to finally give up on them. Too many strainers kept breaking. We do cut up the pieces small. Each time the strainer was replaced I’d cut the veggies even smaller but they kept breaking. Unfortunately not as good as they use to be.

I have the same issue. The strainers are not made strong enough, such a pity as I love the juicer, but I have had a lot of strainers replaced
