Hi Michelle, the suction Nozzle is fitted with wheels which take some of the weight along with a shoulder strap which carries about 3Kg plus some of the weight of mulched leaves in the bag. The secondary handle and strap are also adjustable for different angles/heights of user. I think you would find it useable at 5ft but depending on how long you use it and how many leaves you mulch it is probably going to be equivalent to vacuuming carpet while carrying a very young baby. The length is not adjustable and Bunnings offer a full refund if it does not suit you. It is the only electric mulcher vac I have tried that I could recommend, the metal blade is a major bonus. Ive had friends who have had plastic blades units wear out in months and then the plastic blades are over $100 if available. Bunnings stock spare bags if you need them. The only thing I would suggest if you are using it for long time is some hearing protection, its not super loud but you are very close to it. It does a good job and is a lot faster for me than raking with the mulched result about a quarter of the volume and much easier to deal with.
