Money well spent for the homeowner
I purchased this machine some 3 months ago. I can safely say, "I love it!" Having just undergone a massive garden restructure, there was literally tonnes of material I needed to shred/compost using this machine. I really put it through its paces, shredding everyday for about 2 months and it performed brilliantly. Everything from tree roots to 40 mm branches. (Tip..wash the dirt off the roots before shredding) Older, drier branches over 30 mm proved challenging for the machine and they stopped it running but easily fixed with reverse mode selec...Read more
ted. Green 40 mm branches and roots were 'shredded' without any problem. After each daily use I sprayed some WD40 to assist keeping an edge on the blade. My single only criticism is that, as the name implies, it shreds palm fronds. I found it did not do that very successfully. It is surprisingly quiet, efficient and great value for money.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Brilliant machine.
Fantastic machine, especially for the price. It chomps its way through nearly any branch that you can fit into the feeder slot. It does NOT like excessively leafy or succulent materials though. tending to clog up (then you can hit the handy Reverse button). Remember to occasionally remove the chomped up results from under the exit chute, or the exit chute can block up, preventing new material from feeding through. And for a long life for the machine, store it under cover, as there are metal bearings on the chomping wheel that will rust up in time, IE if always stored in the rain. Otherwise, a briliant machine.

Sadly - I found it pretty much useless
Purchased this item today, after my very old Ryobi finally called it quits.
Unfortunately; I found it next to useless - despite spending some time on adjustments, etc
The best we could obtain was smaller sticks - not mulch.
Returned it (good old Bunnings return policy!) and purchased, the much cheaper Rapid Shreader. It works brilliantly!
Apparently quiet Shredders use a different cutting mechanism that, whilst very low noise, seem to be inferior to the impact cutter of the Rapid Model.
This review is not aimed at Ozito, as I suspect other brands that use this technology would perform similarly.
Save some money and use ear plugs, is my advise.

Awesome machine
I have had mine for a few years now and cannot fault it at all.
I am amazed at how well it works; if a branch can fit in the opening it will be mulched.
Saves a heap of room in the bin. I have used a high speed mulcher in the past, but the Ozito works so much better.

Mulcher, Shredder.
Purchased an Ozito silent mulcher from Bunnings for the express purpose of mulching heavier types of garden waste up to 40ml dia which it does quite easily, but it does not handle green stems to well as it tends to crush rather than cut and this can cause the shute block but this is not a major problem, they say they are silent and going by mulcher standards they are certainly silent, could use it early on a Sunday morning and no one would know, it handled 30 ml dry gum tree branches with ease, the 2400 watt strong motor took every thing in its stride. The other selling point which i took into account was the three year replacement warranty. this in it self gives me peace of mind should any thing go wrong .

After 3 years the machine starts squeaking and squealing
This machine performed well for the first 3 years then began squealing and squeaking at the end of the blade shaft (a bushing). There is no way to lubricate this bushing, and on the whirlpool forums you can read how people who have stripped their Ozito Silent Shredders down have found extensive rust in this location. One fellow actually cut a hole in the side of the machine to enable lubing of the shaft end. I'm not prepared to make this modification, so I've contacted Ozito for a replacement. I'll follow up in comments as to what happens.

What a light weight beast
Ok so I did some gardening on my bush block and ended up with a pile of branches and small gum trees. Pile was 2 mtrs high x 8 wide. I advertised locally for someone to mulch the pile but alas no answer. So I looked at hiring one this led me to look at bunnings and to my surprise I came across the Ozito for $309.
I looked at YouTube and everyone talked it up so I gave it a try.
2.5 hours later the pile was gone and mulched around the garden. I found the newly chopped trees didn't break up as well, however they still passed through the Ozito ...Read more

Minces everything that fits through the hole
We have a lot of bamboo to shred every few months and this unit makes very light work of it. Big branches get chomped up nicely too, provided they are thin enough to fit through the hole.
When shredding moist material the outlet does get a bit clogged but is super easy to clean out. Would be handy if there were hooks on the sides of the outlet to keep the bag from collapsing onto the floor.
A bit heavy but the wheels work well enough. Would be ideal if it was lighter so I could somehow mount it above my green bin and shred directly into it...

Underwhelming, not as good as expected
Gave it a run with different types of garden branches... would not cut over around 25mm unless you open the gap of the feed in drive right up...then you have to mess around returning it down to just under grinding. It cuts woody sticks well, but as soon as it reaches the smaller end all the sticks end up getting stuck/blocked under the body and have to be wrenched out by hand. This is very low and not so good for the back..(even when it is grinding tight on the plate it does this with the small stuff). I would not advise this for anyone unless ...Read more
your waste is bone dry and just smashes up as the wheel bangs it around (as opposed to shredding). It is silent as advertised and would be a godsend if not for the balling up of the smaller stuff...(It does say on the information it is for dry plant waste...but it MUST be dry otherwise it is useless (Although the pictures on the ozito website clearly show the dude "shredding" green waste). Found I had to keep tightening up the cutoff plate to make it work... I am not sure if it will last, but it has a 3 year warranty with bunnings so I will return it once it is worn out.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great for it's price
Bought mine over 10 years ago, back then, it was a GMC. Does the palm leaves every year with the occasional jam and had to pull the gearbox apart one year as it was leaking oil. Clean out and repacking and works great. Think mine as finally died so looking for a new one (striped thread for the mill adjustment bolt). 10 years+ was not expected so happy with it.

Update, recently the allen key for adjusting stripped. replaced with a stainless hex head bolt and works a treat again.

Clogs up and you cannot fix yourself
Clogs up so tightly, that when one tries to loosen the blade using the Allen key provided the allen key thread tears away. Next thing to try is to remove the side panel manually, but alas, three prong screw heads (imagine a phillips head but with three slots rather that four) ensure no normal person can open the casing. Stuffed. Useless.

Chomp away your troubles
After reading some positive reviews on here and Youtube I purchased this unit just over a couple of years ago, as I had to cut down a couple medium size trees. In the past I would have spent hours hand pruning and sawing the tree branches down so I could fit them into the garden waste bin. This shredder just tirelessly chomped away all but the larger branches that didn't fit into the chute in no time. I don't use the mulch on the garden as I didn't want to mix it in with my current pine bark mulch. What I found was that it reduced pretty much o...Read more
ne whole tree into my garden waste wheelie bin which was great. I have removed a couple of other trees since and this shredder just demolished them in no time. I've had no issues with it at all and it just keeps on going strong whenever I need it to do a job. Really happy with it so far and its done a power of work over the last couple of years. Great value for money.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

yet to put it to a proper test
Purchased this from Bunnings for $300+ and not a light carton to move around.
Unpacking and assembling was straight forward and a 3yr warranty included.
It seemed a little top heavy at first but on mastering it, it was fine.
The plastic wheels seem cheap for a heavy unit like this and would probably bog down in ones' yard when moving from place to place because of it's weight.
Read instructions and synced the cutters and put it to test.
It does what it is intended to do,I combined green and dry and was happy with the result.
But as stated shre...Read more

Feel let down only lasted 2 years
Very disappointed motor is not even handling small twigs keeps cutting out will be in touch with manufacturers. How can they promote a product that is inadequate. So will be taking it further as manufacturers should follow up on their product as warranty isn't long enough. Expect more from Ozito.

surprisingly good
This thing is unbreakable, Ive tried!. If a pair of long handle loppers can cut it, it will shred it.
The mulch is a bit chunky. Not that pretty for feature garden beds but for everything else perfect.
I've just finished 5 hours of use with no hassles. Highly recommended.

Very impressed. Good value for money
I am very satisfied with this product, well worth the money for domestic use. I have spent my afternoon shredding branches from native trees and shrubs (bottlebrush etc). All done with ease. The bag included with the shredder wasn't great and tore after a few fills, but I preferred to use a large plastic tub instead anyway. Recommended.

Worked like a champ!
We did some really heavy pruning on some mop tops and ended up with a huge stack of branches as tall as our house. As an alternative to hiring a skip we got this shredder. It chomped down about 90% of the pile, leaving only the thickest branches left. It didn't shred the branches perfectly, but it was certainly good enough for us to throw on the garden as mulch. It worked like a champion all afternoon. The bag it came with wasn't great for collecting the mulch, as it wouldn't stand up by itself. We just used a cardboard box to catch the mulch.

Has it's faults but still great value.
This unit will reduce a trailer load to fit into a garbage bag. Hard to jam with normal use. Outlet could be bigger and higher as it clogs easily on fresh cuttings. I think 40mm capacity claimed is a bit optimistic and would recommend about 30mm max, particularly with hard wood.

Looking for more plants to prune
Got mine second hand, for golden cane fronds. It breaks them up into a "messy" mulch which I put straight back onto the garden. Brought a bladed shredder first - total waste of money. The silent shredder eats everything I throw at it. If it doesn't fit I split it with an axe and put it through. Jams occasionally on very dry wood or really wet leafy branches.
Love it :-)

Love it
This is just a brilliant piece of kit for the home handyman.
Sure it jams occasionally but it's awesome for the back yard. This thing has paid its way and then some over the years from thin vines to larger branches.
It's almost a little addictive when you get it going!

It sounds to me like your motor has failed. I would warn anyone not to buy one. The blades are made of mild steel and need sharpening every time it is used. I had one two years and spent more time sharpening the blades than shredding. I am now trying to give it away
No it is not the motor the machine just continually shuts off under overload. Yon need to (with great difficullty I may add) to clear the jammed branch then reset overload switch. After two hours of pure frustrations I returned the machine. Do not buy!
