Not great but works ok

Not the best player you could buy, but works ok for the price i paid. Did have to put into the service center because it was getting hotter in standby mode than it does when playing a disc. Was told by Panasonic that this is standard for this model, So now i switch it off at the wall when not using it .

Very Good Entry Level Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player

published

This model is the cheapest UHD Blu-Ray player of the Panasonic line up. I found the picture and sound quality playing UHD Blu-Ray discs to be terrific. The upscaling of full HD Blu-Ray discs also looks good. There are also 2 usb ports for playing videos stored on portable drives with the rear port supporting usb3. This model lacks some of the features found on the more expensive models like wifi connect and a second hdmi port however if you don't need these features, this model is very good value.

I Googled it and Panasonic states that their service technicians can make it region free: "Our Panasonic DVD & Blu Ray products are region encoded for DVD Region 4 out of the box, but can be multi-zoned to play DVD's from all regions. Your DVD unit or Blu-Ray unit can be multi-zoned by any of our Service Agents free of charge and some models of DVD Player are able to be multizoned by the customer". However, this is not listed as one fo the applicable models.

Alternatively, you can have a look at https://www.leawo.org/tutorial/how-to-make-your-blu-ray-player-region-free-or-make-your-blu-ray-disc-region-free-1373.html and see whether that is of any use to you. I haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for whether it works or is safe. (I have a DVD player that is region-free, so I haven't had to try this on my player).

Does this item play region 2, region B dvds?

According to the user manual Region management information, the unit can playback BD Video/DVD Video discs of the following region codes, including "ALL" - BD Video - Region B and DVD Video - Region 4.

Yeah, mine was Region locked and would ONLY play Region 4, I believe tried a Region 1 (US) then a 2 (UK) DVD with only the second working, but as per my review. When I took it back the salesman believed he could contact the Panasonic Rep for a region unlock code, but I've seen nothing online to support that.
I had other issues with it, include difficulty playing my 4k Files overs its USB or DLNA. I've yet to find a UHD player which is Region unlocked out of the box for DVDs, meaning if you have DVDs over multiple regions in your collection you will need to retain your multi region DVD player...annoying!

Why does it say it hooks thru wifi, but when I try it's not reading it and I can't get it to. Frustrating.

Being the cheaper model, the UB300 player does not support wifi. To use a wireless connection the next model up - UB400 - is required.

Damn, why doesn't it say that on the box?
