My New Best Kitchen Friend
Never owned flat bed Micro before and am pleasantly surprised. Very even cooking on all settings - microwave, grill and convection. Grill and convection heat up quickly. Impressed with grilling function. Like the shelving. Just roasted chicken for first time and it is delicicious. Only thing this old traveller misses is a 24 hour clock setting.
Oh yes...and the Microwave is very good looking.

Excellent little oven
I've been using the nifty little unit every day for a year now.
Microwaves well - warms up, reheats defrosts.
Oven function is great for baking all veggies (esp potatoes), toasted nuts, haloumi cheese, garlic bread and I even use to for warming plates!
As others have said, the beep noise is a little hard to hear and the inside lighting could be better. I would recommend it.

Everything working so far
Bought this in 2016 and have been using it everyday. Mainly microwave and convection.
Pro: it does convection, grill, microwave and hasn't caused any issues (yet)
Con: It does take a while to pre-heat the convection and a bit longer to cook. Would suggest that convection is used for the small things like pies, rolls...etc
The fan noise to cool the microwave can be annoying, so if you have an open kitchen/living area
Tips: get a microwave dish cover, helps reduce splatter and cleaning the grill gaps is annoying. It could also help avoid rusting issues by keeping the steam in when microwaving
Otherwise, I'm happy so far with this item

Small interior and a bit quirky
This was bought to replace a 30+ year old National Genius microwave that had failed. Even in its current state the original bulb is working! National was Panasonic's old name. So the expectations are high for this brand even if I've downgraded in model. I have only used it for basic heating thus far. The dial timer is quirky and only goes up/down in increments of 10 seconds. Another quirk this model requires a larger clearance around it for proper ventilation even than some larger models. Like others have said the cooking does seem a bit slow a...Read more
nd it's supposed to be a 1000W microwave. At $588, the mark up on this model seemed high. Google searches at the time showed NZ prices were $100 cheaper than the price I bought it for. This exact same model was sold for $476 by Masters in 2015. I'm wary about the exposed grill elements and catalytic interior back panel. I much prefer an all metal covered interior for easier cleaning. Will try roasting with the convection function in the near future now I've bought a steam roaster microwave accessory made of silicone.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Useful, but takes some getting used to
Good size, generally easy to clean (the grill convection part is s bit tricky). The preset functions are good, but you do need to keep an eye on them. Seems odd thst you can only change time bu 10 sec increments, but you het used to it.
Microwave seems a little underpowered. What was done in 3 mins on old one can take 4 on this.
Probably better options out there. We got this on sale (dramatically reduced) last august st Harvey Norman, would not pay full retail for this. If you can get it for sub 300, then its a good buy, otherwise, there are better units out there.

Relied on the Panasonic name - big mistake
I agreed with the many comments re slow cooking and noise. Had mine less than 2 years until the magnatron failed, then the power supply, then the light, then power supply again before I finally gave up. I thought that with the expensive price tag that it wouldn't be a throw-away model. It certainly is. Apparently Panasonic don't give any sort of warranty on their own replacement parts - repairers will only warrant their own labour. Have already spent more in repairs than the original price. I don't believe any of the glowing reviews are origina...Read more
l. Who would be so happy that they'd jump on line and write glowing reviews of all their household products that actually work for a few years? Why has Panasonic continued to flog these units for so many years when they're inefficient and don't last?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Poor heating
This microwave provides very inconsistent and slow heat and cooking. It appears that the non rotating plate design does not work very well. Having tested multiple cups of same temperature water it clearly can't heat the same item in a consistent amount of time. It also takes longer to heat the same items than it did for our previous similar watt microwave. The dial time selector isn't very functional either.

A very quite microwave
Nothing to complain about it. Bought this to replace a 12 year old similar Panasonic convection microwave with a turntable. Having the flatbed with no turntable means even full sized baking dishes will fit in it, so you don't need to heat up a large underbench oven to do a roast or a slice. Takes a bit longer than a turntable, but easy to get used to. Great value.

Good Microwave
I had this microwave for three years now and it has been working perfectly fine. No complaints so far. Easy to use and easy to clean. Not too noisy and done the job. I would recommend this microwave to everyone and I would give this microwave four out of five stars.

Poor performance whilst using the microwave.
Whilst cooking a single packet of frozen vegetables, the instructions stated two and a half minutes on high. The veggies were still frozen. They actually require over three and a half minutes. Everything needed longer times to cook.
The convection oven also needed longer time and or higher temperature. My previous Panasonic much larger microwave/convection oven was soo much better.

Works well enough me
This unit replaces the similar model we bought 4 years ago. Have always had decent cooking results, although we did not use the convection or grilling function much. Microwave power seems fine. I find new microwaves are at best a 5 year disposable item. I did get such a good deal I took out extended warranty and it paid for itself on the older unit in spades. The cooling down function is a bit noisy, but supposedly it helps keep the unit happy.

Great product
We wanted a convection oven. This one is excellent. We have used it multiple times as an oven, grill and microwave and find it does all these well. It would be nice if there were more recipes that use the combination functions as these are ones we don't know intuitively how to do.

Should have stayed away
After having a Panasonic Microwave / Oven for over 10 years we thought we couldn't go wrong when it came time to replace it, we were so wrong a real waste of money, it takes my 90 seconds oats up to 3 minutes to cook and then somethings they are not done, now the door is really hard to close not happy with this product at all.

Nice 2 in 1 oven
Have had this appliance for more than 3 years now. There was a problem with it after 6 months of buying it and it was fixed hassle free. No troubles since.
It doesn't rotate which is good, because the belt that rotates the dish breaks easily in microwaves. However, I think because of the physics pf microwave ovens, it is impossible to have perfectly even heating. It's still decently even however.
Still a good product I think. A bit pricy but it's the space saving which is worth it.

Exactly what I needed
I purchased this microwave coz I needed to upgrade from an old model. My regular oven doesn't perform well & I thought for just 2 of us a small convection microwave oven might tick some boxes. It does small roasts perfectly and is easy to use. The microwave also works well and I do appreciate that the inverter defrosts better than one that is not. I was nearly put off buying this product due to some negative reviews but honestly my experience is only positive. Bought it from Winnings Alexandria and am very happy with both them and the product.

DO NOT TOUCH IT!
If I could give it a 0 I would. Expensive microwave, only lasted a couple of years before it blew up and started smoking. Didnt even get used much, had it looked at incase it was something cheap and easy (Say Capacitor) and the repairer said forget it and mentioned a couple integral components that went on it which would cost more than a new one to replace.
Previous to the catastrophic failure, the microwave performed badly, food would come out hot in areas and cool in others. They touted no turntable needed, but guess they didnt test it ...Read more
very well. I am super disappointed in Panasonic, though a $700+ microwave would last a long time. I guess I wont bother spending the extra money on brands I think have good reputations. Stay away.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Absolutely useless do not buy
- microwave function which you will use is hopeless. It's so slow you have to double or triple the time of your old microwave.
- food cooks unevenly. If you thaw something out it will burn you on one side and be frozen on the other
- run on function will drive you nuts. If you use the microwave for 2 seconds then a further 2 second it will run on for a minute and it's not quiet
- clock is so dim you can hardly see it
- can't pop pop corn in it. It takes so long it burns before it will pop.
- I would say the actual microwave power is about ...Read more

Weak microwave that stopped working (again) after 4 years
The flatbed idea is a great idea that doesn't work well in practice. The microwave power is way too weak, most things took around twice as long to cook/reheat things as our previous 2 microwaves (both Panasonics that lasted much longer). eg. Doesn't have enough power to do a pappadum even after 1 minute, whereas the old ones cooked them perfectly in 10 or 20 seconds.
We hardly ever used the grill/convection functions - when we did they worked fairly well but the design doesn't allow cleaning and the elements are exposed, so you get a lot ...Read more

Affordable compromise
Replacing a very old (17yrs) convection microwave that blew up. the flat bed provides a larger cooking space and is fairly even, but not as good as a turntable. Initially had some problem with the the microwave, but it rectified after 3rd use and now cooks in expected time. Miss the sensor cooking for fresh/frozen veges. Who can be bother weighing frozen peas. This is a waste of time function. the combo cooking is not as good due to the exposed element which also makes cleaning more difficult.
Paid about the same price for the 2000 version with far better features and function. Would have purchased a better model if not right on top of Xmas

Very slow on the microwave function and hopeless grill
I have had this microwave 12 months and from day one it has driven me mad. It is just so slow on the microwave function and also I am not happy with the grill as it does not seem to have enough heat and takes ages to grill something. What can one do I would not want it replaced with the same and I have a 5 year extended warranty I feel I have bought a lemon

Questions & Answers
Margaretasked
Can I cook with oven and microwave combined or oven, microwave and grill combined putting in my own temperatures and time.
It seems I can only cook with grill and microwave combined. Disappointing.
1 answer
Yes, you're right from what I can see in the manual. However, I have cooked cakes using microwave followed by convection and they turned out fine. But it is just as easy to just cook with convection for cakes. The combination function of microwave and grill works ok too but only for things that need browning or crisping.

How do you cook pastry using the convection oven?
My first try at cooking home made sausage rolls ended with the tops burnt while the bottom went soggy and fell apart
3 answers
Haven't used it to bake pastry, but I find that cooking cakes etc. works best if you use one of the racks. I have reheated pastry using convection and they worked out fine. Hope you have better luck next time.
Have now cooked some sausage rolls in this oven and found the following : use the black tray that comes with the oven and don't try and fit too much on it. Cook at 200 for 30 to 35 min on the lower oven rung and reverse the tray half away through. Don't use baking paper and be sure to preheat the oven. Hope this helps. I used a fairly firm chicken meat mixture and fortunately they came out quite crisp.
Thank you so much, I did use baking paper, and had the oven on 180.
I will try again this week using your method.

Is it safe to put this microwave oven on top of my vertical freezer?
2 answers
Dont see any reason why not. I'd suggest you put a sheet of laminate or MFD between the freezer and microwave. The oven doesn't seem to generate a lot of heat from the bottom.

Hi Amanda, you need to understand where the compressor is within your freezer and if the area you are placing the microwave gets hot what issues it can cause. Please refer to the operating instructions for the best placement of the microwave.
