Value for money
Purchased in April 2020. Reliable and heats evenly. Multiple functions, variable heating options and quiet. Blends into my kitchen and has large 32 litre capacity. However, lighting is poor inside. Well recommended.

Control pannel confusion
Control pannel unlike previous model won't let me select a time and start. I can only select the 30 sec up to 5 mins, it's very confusing unless it's broken I can't be sure

Great Microwave
I've used Panasonic microwaves before and thought they're well made and easy to use.
That's why I bought this one.
It comes with a comprehensive instruction manual which tells you how to cook lots of stuff. I'll check that out one day but for now I mainly cook vegetables in it.
Purchased in December 2021 at The Good Guys Online store for A$199.00.

Basic features for a microwave. Nothing special
Have used this for over 2 weeks. Seems to be able to do the basic function of heating up food evenly without affecting the quality of the food. I am disappointed in the program/features. My previous Samsung microwave had the option to turn off the beeping sound but this one does not. Secondly, it is not easy to use as it does not have a number pad. The quick 30s button is not easy to find and lacks user friendliness.
Purchased in August 2021 at Harvey Norman for A$190.00.

Hi Chris, thank you for the review and the feedback on what changes you would like to see moving forward on the next models
Like I said, I like a number pad setting; I prefer the “30 sec quick cook” to immediately start cooking rather than pressing another button “cook”, and the ability to turn off the beeping function. Th... Read more

Why is the cool down function removed?
This is the first microwave I have had that does not run the fan to cool down after cooking. It leaves lots and lots of condensation inside and I need to wipe this down after cooking. A real hassle.
Why was the cool down function removed? Or is my machine faulty? I did try to find out from the store from which I purchased my oven (Harvey Norman), but they couldn't help, only send a technician, and if nothing wrong I'd have to pay, even though only one month old.
Purchased in May 2021.

Hi Jenny, the cool mode isn't available on every microwave, however you do not need to be concerned about this not being on your machine, it is still a reliable machine.

Cheap and compact but has a few limitations
Same wattage but smaller and darker inside to our old Panasonic unit. Price was good and quick to receive (ordered on Ebay with 10% discount and picked up next day at Good Guys drive-though despatch), just wish they would illuminate the control panel, as our old unit was light coloured and easy to read in low light.... seems everything's going "Goth". e.g. black cooktops, black washing machines! The microwave's fan is very powerful (but a bit noisy) which I suppose is to get rid of the moisture quickly and not corrode the inside or effect the e...Read more
lectronics (our old Sharp microwave failed for this reason). Seems to be the most replaced appliance in our kitchen. Each new model seems to require more buttons to press just to operate at max. power for 1 min. Our Sharp... ONE button (START), last Panasonic... TWO buttons (TIME/START), now we have to press THREE buttons... POWER/TIME/START! That's an extra 30 seconds of my life, everyday, that I'll never get back. Just realised that we received the wrong manual with this unit and downloaded the correct one from the web! Oh, I see, there's a 30 second button with this unit! BUT I still hate the black interior (no wonder they had to increase the interior light brightness) and particularly the hard-to-read controls... that's the problem with ordering online without seeing the unit first.Purchased in December 2021 at The Good Guys for A$178.20.

Not as good as I expected it to be
This is my second Panasonic Microwave oven . The first lasted ten years and never gave a spot of trouble until this year when the Start button became unresponsive and required me to “reboot” (turn it off at the wall and back on again) it before it would work. Due to my satisfaction with the previous Panasonic, I set out to find something similar with 1100 watts, 32L capacity and a similar external size to fit the cabinetry in my renovated kitchen. The oven I found best suited to this was the NN-ST64JW.
Unfortunately, I have been a little dis...Read more
appointed with this. Primary concerns centre around: * Unit stands on four small feet. Something is uneven on mine and it rocked on three feet necessitating me to put some small stick-on felt pads to prevent this. * The door has a little movement in it compared to my previous oven. Hopefully this is not an issue with microwaves escaping while in use? * Touch controls require a little more force than the previous oven…sometimes causing the whole microwave unit to be physically pushed back. * It gets hot…really hot. After cooking for around twenty minutes on full power, the top and left side of the oven cabinet are too hot to touch. * When setting the time, you must confirm the power level first before entering the time. My previous Panasonic oven just accepted the time directly and assumed you wanted full power. * The back interior wall has a minor paint run in the surface.Purchased in April 2021.

My opinion
My old panasonic microwave was 14 years old and I was perfectly happy with it but it finally died. I was dreading getting a new microwave as all the panasonic models had a 'cool down' feature where the fan would keep running for a while after the food had finished cooking. It was a feature I REALLY didn't want.
Thankfully Panasonic must have listened as this latest model DOES NOT have a 'cool down' feature.
In comparison to my 14 year old Panasonic microwave (apart from the fact that the salesman said there would be no way I'd get 14 years ou...Read more
t of this one): The beep sound is identical The glass turntable is identical (so I can use my old one as a spare - good one Panasonic!) The door is easy to open and close and the buttons easy to push I think it is louder and the noise has a 'booming' quality to it. Maybe they have a more powerful fan to make up for the fact that there is not a 'cool down' anymore.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Questions & Answers

Our Panasonic Genius Inverter Microwave has, after faultlessly performing for 14 years, finally decided not to run for more than 3 seconds. We checked all the internal wire connections and the back of the front control panel for any suspicious solder connections, but everything seems o.k..
Do you have any suggestions what the problem could be? Is there a quick fix? Can it be re-set? We'd like to keep it, but if it needs a new control board or something else major, we would reluctantly have to replace it.

Hello jurgen
My advice: buy a new one. 14 years is a pretty good innings.
Good advice Tim, you are right.
All my life, I have repaired mechanical, electrical and electronic things, not so much to save money but to learn, how things work. It was always a very satisfying hobby, a welcome distraction instead of working in R&D designing steam plants, aircraft loading machinery, saw mills, solar panels, manufacturing industrial diamonds etc..
Two weeks ago, I reluctantly dumped our only 5 year old washing machine and bought a new one. The cost for a new control panel would have been $ 410 incl. freight but excl. labour (my time). The new washing machine cost was $650. It's just 2 tanks of petrol for the car.
The other way I look at things now is: The cost of the old microwave was say about $400 divided by 14 year = $28.50 / year, which is the price of a KFC take-away.
I am writing this, so that others who will read this, may reconsider repairing things. Modern economy has made many of us throw-away consumers. It'll be interesting to see, how or if the 'Coronavirus pandemic' will change this?
Thanks again and best regards
