Don’t buy a 2012 308
I bought a 2012 308, looked great but what a costly mistake, I used to love peugeot, but not anymore, biggest lemon ever! The timing belt needed to be replaced at 92 000 k, had already been replaced, the front end rattled at 101 000, oil leaks at 98 000, peugeot would not cover oil leak. Was still under 5 year warranty, not happy! Don’t buy one, keep looking.

Not well thought-out.
Poor design makes this an unreliable car. Too many sensor failures and un-diagnosable faults. The check engine light never went out despite four reputable workshops having a go. Carbon build-up on inlet valve stems a major problem, leaking oil supply and return pipes from the turbo and failure of complete timing chain assembly were some of the hazards. All at less than 100,000 km. Combing the "Web" suggested much worse was to come so it's gone.
Always used way more petrol than it should have, but very comfortable on trips.

Reliable little wagon
Purchased our vehicle with 50000kms on the clock. We’ve now done 140,000km with no mechanical problems (fingers crossed).
Ours is the 7 seater and has proven to be a versatile family wagon. We have 3 kids and the car proved to be one of the few that could fit 3 car seats across the back seat, by virtue of the fact that each seat is individual and exactly the same size. Last 2 seats are for small kids only, ie under 12, ideally in the 7-8 yo range. As a 6foot adult, the last row is impossible to access.
One gripe is the rain sensing wipers...Read more
need to be turned on each time you start the car. Also, rear wiper needs to be turned off and then on again each time you start the engine. Driving experience is good with excellent fuel economy. Handles nicely. Brakes have a very short lifespan (50,000km) and expensive to replace.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Don't rely on Peugeot to fix problems
An unreliable model, provided by an unreliable car company. Lovely to drive and would like to upgrade to a newer Peugeot, but will go back to a reliable Jap car.
Our mechanic attempted to fix one problem but Peugeot sent the wrong part, then sent a part that our mechanic needed to modify but Peugeot never bothered to tell him this, nor how to do it. In the garage for two weeks awaiting Peugeot to do their job properly. The part didn't work properly of course. Immediately after that, the STOP light, airbag warning light and seatbelt warning ...Read more
lights came on intermittently. Mechanic took it to Peugeot for assessment. A receipt from that $472 episode check shows Peugeot said everything was perfect. Eight months on the signs still come on as often as every 300 metres.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Expensive upkeep
The driving experience is good. The panoramic sunroof was beautiful. There was lots of legroom and extra 2 seats would be useful for carpooling.
The running costs! As soon as we bought it we took it in for a service, as my husband's habit. Because it was a Peugeot the mechanic charged $200 for a small car part because it had a little light that said it had an environmental warning for emissions. The week later found the same problem was not fixed. Took it back. Another $200. In 2 weeks of owning it it has cost us $400 in car parts for a litt...Read more
le flashing light! Dont know if we just bought a lemon. I think brand new it would be OK. But for a 8 year old car, I guess some repairs are expected and that's the difference between getting a common Toyota (our other car) vs a snazzy European car... the 20 year old Toyota hasn't cost us that much in spare parts! Next time we're getting a common Holden, Ford or Toyota with lots of car parts!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Simply love it!
Quiet, supple suspension, well put together, fabulous engine with what should be a reliable automatic transmission. Averaging less than 5L/100 over 35,000 kms, mainly county driving with economy in mind.
Quality interior, no rattles and comfortable seats.
Servicing is not cheap though and the clean design interior requires HVAC, phone and audio adjustments via the central touch pad.

Low Speed Pre Ignition
I have the 1.2T. It could be a great car, but mine suffers badly from Low Speed Pre Ignition (LSPI). On a good day it means you get a shudder through the car when accelerating back up to speed from low revs particularly under load (i.e. up hills), on a bad day, it means destruction of the spark plugs and/or engine, and a tow. Could be great. But isn't. Peugeot can't, or won't, fix it under warranty by the way. I would unfortunately avoid this car until they sort out their LSPI issues.

Tired car at just 40,000 kms
We bought one brand new. It is now 4 years on and it is such a tired and failing car. 40,000 kms on the car. We went on a trip to the QLD / NSW border. The car travelled well until we got there. Parked for lunch on the second day got back into the car and emergency warnings all over the control panel. The car wasn't firing on one of the cylinders but heeding the warning, we stopped driving the car and got it towed to a dealership. The car couldn't just say "warning Le spark plug!". No that would be too easy!. The dealership in Broadwat...Read more
ers were great they got it back to us before we had to head home. But they find brake shudder and a vacuum leak in the rocker cover. We were coming back from holidays. Got a flat. Pulled over. It took 45 minutes to get the jack out from under neath the car, where the spare tyre is located. You can't get the tyre out because the flat lowers the back of the car down and the jack is located in the compartment that holds the tyre to the car body. i.e. the tyre can't be moved and the jack is trapped under it. Then once I've got the jack free from under the tyre the the jack gives way, slips of the jack mount and pushed the door frame out of shape. Thanks to a local farmer with a good jack we were able to get the spare tyre and change it. We made it back without any more incidents. Next thing, the car now also has a whining noise in the engine. Just got the quote from the dealer for the rocker cover supplied and fitted for $1200, need to replace the rotor and break pads, supplied and fitted for $900 and the new noise is the timing belt tensioner, supplied and fitted for $1500. This is for a car that has been on the road for 4 years and has only got 40,000 on the clock. One year out of warranty and Peugeot don't want to pay a cent for the repairs. I can understand the brake pads but the rocker cover and the timing belt pulley are obvious manufacturer faults and should be fixed at their cost. Don't buy a Peugeot.Similar opinion? Awesome car, finally a good looking Peugeot!
I started driving on a 306, owned a 307 for 10 years and now got the latest 308 for my wife. She couldn't be happier. The car drives very smoothly on damaged roads and the 6 speed auto is a delight. Powerful with a lot of torque. The soundproofing is excellent, even at 110k on the highway.
Although subjective, I find the design of this new model absolutely superb, both internally with a minimalist refined dashboard and externally with beautiful lines. I'm really glad Peugeot dramatically changed the style of their aging 307 and 308 (T7). As fo...Read more

Poor service after sales
After 2 years driving, I found noise from the front when applying brake, contacted Peugeot dealership and waited for 2 or 3 weeks for inspection, they found nothing but insisted to charge me $160 for checking even it was still under 3 years factory warranty, i made a complaint to Peugeot Australia & NZ, and was told that was the relationship between you and the dealership, Peugeot OZ&NZ did not want to get involved.

Peugeot 308 Allure Premium - Solid, Beautiful and Economical
Got this as a replacement for a 2011 308 Wagon 6 months ago. The model I got is a 2015 Allure Premium Diesel wagon used by Peugeot and had done 9000km. Have done close to 20000km now and time to share my experience.
First impression is that these 2 are entirely different cars. New model although lighter than the previous generation feels solidly planted on the road. May be the suspension and aerodynamics have been improved much and feels much better to drive than the previous generation. Turning circle is also feels smaller making it muc...Read more
h easier to navigate turns with limited space. Main area when I look at the new car is the interior. This is again very different in the new generation but it is certainly an improvement. Windscreen is not big as the previous version which makes it feel less spacious but we rarely use the back seats and with front seats moved to the back space is not an issue. Most of the controls have been moved to the screen and number of buttons are very few. This minimalist design is something I like and using the screen based controls is easy once you get used to. Steering wheel has a few more buttons but is still minimalist. Allure and above have electronic parking brakes and it makes the centre console very neat and nice. Overall from my perspective although it takes some time to get used to it is a design I really like. The model I got came with very comfortable and nice Alcantara seats and the glass roof provides a very spacious feeling. Sound system is pretty good and the built-in jukebox is also a useful feature. Exterior design is also very appealing and it is with a lot of reluctance that I installed roof bars and bicycle carriers since the original aesthetic is very appealing. We often have the rear seats folded to carry bicycles and this can be done easily with the 2 levers at the rear.1 comment

Don't be deceived by the good looks!
If you are considering a Peugeot think again! We brought our car new, liked the design and fuel efficiency. But... after 6 months the turbo head cracked and needed to be replaced. We have had constant oil leaks which Peugeot have been unable to fix, along with 18 genuine faults in the six years since we have had it. The repairs once the warranty period had finished have cost us a small fortune! The last straw was when the automatic transmission/gear box failed on the freeway a week ago! I am now a nervous wreck when I drive it. I have been really disappointed in the way that Peugeot has managed this.

Unbelievable Car
This is a fabulous car to drive. In manual format it is punchy and smooth. Very economical. Once you have mastered the GPS, it is easy to use and quite clever. Ride and handling are excellent. Good A/C and ventilation. The diesel engine is very responsive and yet quite economical. Actually this was a rental car we used in Ireland a couple of months ago. The car had 60,000 km on it.

Great for the family with the 7seats
This car is great for our family it's spacious and great on fuel and great for access for the kids ....I bought mine second hand with 95 000 KS on the clock and it has been a great car so far now has 110 on the clock ....as far as the reports about reliability go ...I think you just need to put in a bit of effort I put the 98 premium in mine and injector clean every 2500 KmS and have not had any issue with the motor ....yes it does rip through brakes but most Euro cars do ...and you must put full synthetic oil in the engine ..... but I must say so far happy with our little pug

Worst car ever!!!
I bought my car new and it has cost me so much money with everything that has continued to break and fall apart on it. It is a consistent liability to have. Every Michelin tyre has burst, the 1st one at 6 months. I now happily have regular, cheap tyres that last! At 58,000k I have had my 2nd lot of disc and brake pads changed, my air/con now has a fault, it's a tiny pice of metal that won't allow the cool air through...$1500 to replace, this is on top of the $1200 service I just had to have for more brake pads and discs, the tube that carries ...Read more
the water to spray the windscreen fell apart, had to be replaced, the battery went at 2 years, an issue with the motor occurred 3 weeks after my final warranty service...$900 to fix. This is a scary car to have as it drains your finances, it doesn't feel safe. I want to sell it now but have to pay the $1500 to get the aircon fixed first (as it's nearly summer and would not be able to sell without aircon), plus have to fix the side panels that are falling off. My advice to anyone would be to never buy this car, it is the worst car I have ever had. My past cars have been Mazda, Mitsubishi. All new and none of these issuesSimilar opinion? The car interior is comfortable and when it is going well the drive is smooth and fuel efficient. But the Peugeot 308 has had numerous serious recurring mechanical problems. I bought the car new with only 10 k a year ago and it has broken down twice since on interstate trips, once where black smoke was oozing from the engine. It needed gearbox replacement at 2,500 k, and clutch replacement at 6,000K. Added to this, in its first 2 months the clutch failed while crossing a major big city intersection. There also appear to be problems with the eco...Read more
function kicking in. Despite these recurring major problems Peugeot have refused to replace the vehicle. A reasonable person would not buy the car if they knew its problems. Regrettably, Peugeot no longer produce the reliable cars they were once known for. Every time I think about getting in the car again, it is with extreme trepidation. DO NOT BUY.Similar opinion? Crap
Have had this car for 6 years from new. Had endless problems compounded by very poor backup from the company here. No responsibility for problems they should have taken responsibility for, terrible availability of parts in Australia waiting weeks for basic parts to come from France. Terrible ride, awful transmission with multiple problems and failures.

Bought as an undriven demonstrator. 17 trips to mechanic in 3.5 years. This car was perfectly maintained including all servicing, correct 95 type fuel, synthetic oil etc. etc. This was NOT due to lack of care or maintenance as suggested by another reviewer.
Problems were varied & endless, overheated after blown fuse, turbo pipe FELL OFF, timing chain stretched, coolant problems, numerous oil leaks, carbon build up, oil contamination in fuel injectors causing it to constantly misfire. The car was completely unreliable. It has major design fa...Read more
ults which cause carbon build up and this issue is not covered in the regular service schedule. The stretched timing chain is also a design fault which should have been the subject of a recall, as Minis with the same engine were recalled but not Peugeots. The mechanic was unable to fix the carbon buildup/misfiring/oil contamination in injectors issue and tried to charge us thousands just to diagnose. The car was off the road for literally moths. We ended up going to Department of Fair Trading and then applied for an NCAT hearing. We got a settlement from Peugeot. They paid our mechanic and did repairs free of charge. When we sold the car the guy said that most of the time people bring these cars in with warning lights flashing. The only reason ours was in good working order was that it was fixed up for free by Peugeot Australia. Otherwise it would have cost somewhere in the vicinity of $5,000 to fix despite the car only being 3.5 years old and regularly serviced. It is such a shame as it has a really nicely designed interior and was lovely to drive when it was actually working. Another issue of course is the resale value. No-one wants these cars second hand due to their terrible reliability. So we paid $35,000 for it and only got $9,500 when it was 3.5 years old and with very low kms. Our local Peugeot dealer said they would offer $7,500 (less that 1/4 what we paid for it) but they didn't want it. Let me make this clear... Peugeot dealer WOULD NOT buy this car despite a perfect record of servicing. We borrowed money to buy this car and due to having to sell at such a terrible resale amount, and having to borrow to replace it we are still paying off the car.Similar opinion? Listen when they tell you not to touch euro
Turbo has an oil leak, needs a new pump, timing chain stretched. All at only 70,000kms. If you're going to buy, get a comprehensive mechanical warranty. These cars are not built to last. Gave an extra star because it's a comfortable car, nice to look at and nice to drive.

What a terrible car which I have been regretting every day after my purchase! I am constantly repaired the car: fuel pump (high pressure pump first then low pressure pump in total 3000 as my Peugeot 308cc broke down on the underground garage the tow truck 900 dollars). Timing chain, boot, engine oil leaking every 6 months(no joking) Peugeot head office told me this is normal(I purchased a brand new car and the engine start to leak from the first year after repairs it regularly leak in 6 months time) the I have to pay 380 dollars per wash the engine bay! I spend more than 13000 dollars for repair a 7 years old car and have to rent car for 4 months time (all add together as Peugeot will tell you they are too busy to give you a loan car while your Peugeot is broken car)!!! I am here try to tell everyone please do yourself a favor DO NOT BUY PEUGEOT unless you want broke done at highway or constantly call tow truck to pay Peugeot mechanics more money!

Yep we just paid Peugeot dealership just over $5500 to fix a limp mode/ check engine fault for our can.
We didn’t even get 20mins up the road and same thing happened. Went into limp mode again and warning lights came on. Told them we want a replacement vechile also while it was in there for 4wks!!!!! And not fixed!! Spent over $5500 and nothing has changed!! So angry that we cannot demand our money back or have any rights over Peugeot doing this to us!! Called them and they said they don’t know what it is?? So if Peugeot dealership mechanics cannot fix it and rip us off then what do we do??? We have a 2014 expert van sitting here as we do t know who knows how to fix it and have spent all that money already. SO SO AnGRy that they charge us for it or we could t get the van back
