Dead battery
I bought the car 3 days ago. on the day of inspection, the car battery was dead so they jump start it and said "it just need a good 2 hours charging with the indicator light on". I trusted them, then purchased the car. On the pick up day, car battery was dead, they had to jump start the car again. I drove a good 4 hours after picking up the car. Car battery gone dead again after only 30 mins of parking. I ranged pickles, their irresponsible answer was "The car battery is not under any warranty at all". robbed of a $1000 from pickles, unfair and inaccurate business practises
I was interested in a car that was in the salvage auctions and listed as WOVR NA, which meant I could re-register it in my state of NSW. I decided I was going to bid on it on the auction day so I registered to bid on-line. A couple of days later when the car came through during the auction I bid and won, however when I got the invoice in the email I saw that the status of the car had changed from WOVR-NA to Repairable Write Off. As a repairable write off I could not register the car in NSW. I contacted Pickles, they were aware the status change...Read more
d and would not refund my $1000 deposit. I complained that the status should not have identified unless it was confirmed as such. The car was useless to me. I did not proceed with purchasing the car and Pickles have not and will not refund my deposit. Totally unfair, shonky advertising of their cars and questionable business practises. I am totally unhappy with Pickles.

Vendors (Insurers) will sometimes change the classification after initial lotting of the asset, or the asset may have been incorrectly labelled at time of lotting. However, in all cases, any change to the description of an asset should have taken place prior to that asset going to auction. This would ensure the change would have been notable on the asset on the lead up to and during the auction. I want to check that at the time of the auction was the asset correctly or incorrectly described? Please email details to me at [email protected] Regards, Pickles CxI've got the invoice I could send you. I purchased a car from Pickles auctions, the first shock was they charged me more than $500 for auction fees and bidding online. The second thing was; the car was far from the description. Engine has obvious major problems and they have failed to report it. They even charge you for taking your money (no joke), whether you pay by EFTPOS, cash or credit, they are all alike.
I picked up the car, and as soon as I drove off the auction yard, I could tell it has big problems. I rang the manager at Pickles and I told him the state of the car, he aske...Read more
d me to provide a mechanical report, and I did, which was not free thou. He finally he agreed to return the car and refund my money without paying me anything for the mechanical report, which they should have done before selling any car. The car was a salvage vehicle, and it worths absolutely nothing. It is so sad that they are going sell it to someone else. The most ugly part is the refund, it has been a number of weeks and I call them everyday and they keep telling me I will receive it tomorrow. Last phone call they hanged up on me. I am stuck now, I cannot buy another car as I am waiting for the money. The verdict of this story, don't be fooled by the cheap prices of any auction, once these crocks add their charges, they are no longer cheaper than the market price. In addition, the chances of you buying a lemon is almost certain. just think twice before you "Pickles"1 comment

Although I don't know the detail of your purchase, I believe (based on your comments) that you purchased a car at auction, although I cannot discern if it was a Salvage or General auction. I can certainly understand your disillusionment and surprise if you were not familiar with how the auction operates and what buying at Auction entails. All auctioned assets are sold 'as is, where is'. We make no warranties as to the condition of any asset sold at auction, we also do not undertake any mechanical or electrical inspections and therefore we do not make any comment on the condition of the asset mechanically in our condition report. This is clearly defined in the T&C's and is also included on the condition report we do provide, see below: "This description indicates the motor vehicle has a body appraisal based purely on an external walk around. There may be other damage that is unsighted or mechanical issues that will not be contained in the description and it remains the buyer's responsibility to inspect the motor vehicle and be satisfied with the condition and state of repair. Whilst every effort is made in the preparation of this description, it is a 'guide' only and no guarantee or warranty whatsoever is made as to the accuracy of the information contained within." I am happy to hear though that the branch has seen fit to refund you. I hope that with this improved understanding of auctions that should you decide to participate again that the experience will be a better one. Regards, Pickles CxSimilar opinion? Inaccuracte vehicle condition reports and shocking customer service!
Inaccurate condition reports. Do not purchase without seeing the car for yourself!
Basically I was told over the phone that I lacked 'common sense'.
"Bullseye Chip" with "comment only"
turns out to be multiple windscreen chips and am told it is unroadworthy - meaning it would require rectification - there's a rectification guide that was not used!
Additional chip is on drivers side making it unroadworthy. condition report identifies only the one on passenger side.
Spoke to [name removed], offered no compensation or couldn't even apologize. Didn't have the condition report/information in front of him and was rude in his tone of voice. Very poor customer service considering $19k had been spent.

Online bidding
Pickles Auction has the worst online bidding system i ever seen.
After spending hours viewing their cars. I trusted them saying that their online bidding would be the same as if was to their auction physical location.
After 5 minutes of auction their system went down and even worse. Pickles didn't stopped the auction. They carried that on with only those that were on their site. A total disrespect towards those clients who trusted their words.

We do understand how frustrating this is for our online buyers. And although our PicklesLIVE Online bidding platform is very robust (we run between 35 and 50 Live auctions every week) it is an IT based system, and as such it is not completely infallible. I realise that it would seem unfair that only those onsite were able to bid when the system went down, but we have to consider all buyers in this situation. If you could imagine that you were one of the 750 people who actually attended the auction and were on site when the system went down, you might be very upset if we decided to close the auction altogether after you had made the time/trip and effort to be there for the auction. Ultimately there is no perfect solution that will appease everybody (save a 100% infallible IT solution - which I don't think any IT company worldwide has yet cracked), so we endeavour to find the best solution for all, whether Online or Onsite Buyers and Vendors. I can advise though that some 200 of the assets up for sale over the weekend were held over and will be up for auction again this week, so please check the website for details. Or even better, register for auction updates and you'll receive them automatically. Again, on behalf of Pickles, we do apologise for the inconvenience caused you and the many hundreds of our other online buyers who were affected. We are thankful for your custom and understanding. I bought a Hyundai i30 on fixed price and as soon as I drove it out after paying the full price the tyre pressure light came on. Hi Sasha-Leigh,
I'm very sorry to hear of your poor experience and I would like to investigate this further as it would be highly irregular for any personal effects to be removed by our staff.... Read more
Please understand that we have a strict process for dealing with assets that come to us with personal effects. Any such items are bagged and tagged, with the asset, when it is booked-in and are stored for collection by the owner (if claimed). N.B. It is not normal practice to send personal effects to any person claiming items as proof of ownership is required and this usually necessitates physical attendance at the branch. It's also important to remember that any asset that arrives at our yards may have been through a number of hands before reaching us and as such there is every chance that items could have been removed during this time. Honesty and Integrity are two key pillars of our company and the removal of any items that do not form part of the asset is deemed as THEFT and is an instantly dismissable offence and may incur the involvement of Police. We hold our staff to strict adherence to this policy at all times. After saying all of the above, however, I would still like to investigate this incident and would ask if you could email me details of your interaction. Please send any and all information to me at [email protected] Regards, Pickles CxIt's not the matter of the items so much as the fact that I received nothing in response to my email. Watch out for the list of huge pickles fees added on to auction bid prices.
Beware of 3 huge pickles fees. Here is an actual example, I bid in a Pickles live auction through the internet & won a $1400 old car. Check out these actual fees, they are a ripoff. On the invoice there were 4 charges, $1400 for the car plus 3 big fees added on. The first fee is an admin fee of $66 plus a second $110 fee just for bidding on the internet plus an even higher third fee of $189 called a processing fee. Pickles CxPickles Auctions
Hi Gary,
Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our fees. I thought I'd just take the opportunity to respond and let you (and others) know a little about these fees.... Read more
Firstly, in Salvage auctions, the price you bid on the asset goes to the Vendor (asset owner) Pickles does not include a mark-up on the bid price. The admin and processing fees (also referred to as the buyers premium) are the fees we charge to operate our business. Yes, we charge a fee for our service. The Internet Bidding Fee (which should be called the PicklesLIVE Fee) is only applicable to those who participate and win an asset using our PicklesLIVE online bidding platform. This charge is to recover costs associated with operating the simulcast online auction platform and includes the costs associated with employees required to monitor online bids and communicate live with the auctioneer. It is a separate fee as it does not apply to those who are bidding in person (onsite). As for being able to find these fees, well you can find them at every branch for those on-site, and for online users, you'll find them on our website under 'Fees' or you can even type 'Pickles Fees' into a Google search and you'll see them appear. Hope that helps. Regards, Pickles CxYou're reply is carefully worded and rather misleading, Pickles also charges vendors a commission based of the bid price SO in reality the entire bid price does not go to the vendor as you stated, Pic... kles also gets a payment from the vendor and a pretty good payment at that. I have no issue with Pickles making a profit but I do object to the raft of huge fees you charge every buyer, why not have just one buyers premium and keep it simple. Regardless of all that, the actual fees you charge on auction items are way to high, they are often around half the winning bid price, EG a $1000 bid purchase ends up costing a buyer around $1350. Fees get ALOT higher on more expensive vehicles especially anything over $10,000. People can and should look elsewhere as there are plenty of other auction companies with much lower fees, Like Graysonline, Manheim Auctions or Lloyds Auctions to name a few.Pickles CxPickles Auctions

not up front about sale items reserve prices!
They list items for auction and do not indicate whether there is a reserve, when you bid and become the highest bidder, they then tell you the reserve has not been met and you have not won the auction bid!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your review and comment. I can certainly sympathise with you if you were not fully aware of how our Auctions operate.... Read more
FYI...unless specified 'Unreserved' all auctioned assets will have a 'Reserve' set. This is common practice for Auction type businesses. Again, like most auctions, it is possible to win the bidding round (be the highest bidder) however an asset is not Sold unless any 'Reserve' has been met or exceeded. In an auction, one of three things can happen. 1. SOLD: in this situation the highest bid has reached or exceeded the Reserve price and the highest bidder at ‘hammer fall’ has won the asset. 2. PASSED IN: this is where the highest bid did not reach the reserve price. In this situation the asset is held back and may be placed in another auction at a later time or, the Vendor may decide to remove the asset from auction. 3. REFERRED: in this situation, the highest bid may have come close to but did not reach the Reserve price. When this happens, the highest bid is referred to the Vendor. The Vendor can then decide to either accept or decline the highest bid or make a counteroffer. If no agreement is reached between the highest bidder and the Vendor then the Vendor may decide to place the asset into another auction at a later date or, remove the asset from auction. I hope that this explanation helps to provide a better understanding of the Auction process and I hope that we may see you participate again armed with this information. Not sure what constitutes a 'fake auction' but we operate 'real' and 'genuine' auctions every day (save Sundays).
FYI...Reserve prices at auction are commonplace. I suggest perhaps you simply Google search "Auction Reserve" to find out more.
Most sales contracts are by definition 'non-flexible' and binding. Auction contracts tend to have no cooling-off period or allow for 'buyers remorse'.
Not sure if you have raised your complaint with us, but if you like, I'd be happy to investigate your issue to save you time, effort and cost in legal proceedings at this time. Please email any relevant details to [email protected] and I will look into your situation.

Hello David,
Please accept our apologies for the lack of clarity not afforded you. We do not warrant car batteries on the vehicles we auction or sell at fixed price as they are consumables and as such, have a limited life expectancy.... Read more
You certainly should have been told this at the time of your inspection of the asset and if this did not take place then we are truly sorry. Batteries in general, will last between 4-7 years depending on amount driven, environment, make or type of battery, etc... and as they are consumables, any car that is 4-5 years and over is likely to need a replacement battery at some stage soon. We do not replace them as a matter of course as it is not always possible to truly discern how much life is left in a battery and we could be replacing an item that doesn't need replacing, subsequently increasing the asset price for no reason. We can, of course, replace them (and often do) at the request of the Buyer. We should have advised you of this option and again if we didn't, then please accept our apologies. You are certainly fully entitled to return the asset (subject to compliance with the T&C's of the 7 Day Buy Back Offer) and whilst we are disappointed that we have let you down we are happy that we can make good on our offer of the 7 Day Buy Back. Please contact the branch immediately to make arrangements for the return of the car. Regards, Pickles Cx
