Our buying guide will explain which type of portable air conditioner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Would recommend this machine
We used to have a Delongi portable air, until it failed completely after only two years. The polo cool is reliable, and cools our 4m X 3m room quickly on very hot days. It's a lot quieter than the Delongi too. Would certainly recommend to friends and family. Keep cool!
Quiet and efficient cooling
Not much. Could design connection of exhaust a bit better.

Impressive!
I purchased the Polocool PC44 on the 13th January this year, the day before the four days over 40 celcius, we were expecting. I just knew I wouldn't cope and knew it was time to get a portable aircon(as I'm a renter). Well, it was the week from hell, as everybody in Victoria would know. A male friend came to install it for me, and used a window/door sealer also, to ensure my window was completely sealed. Blinds down, door closed, set at 22 celcius in a 3.5 by 4.5 loungeroom, and it worked like a dream! I had a room to go to where I could relax ...Read more
and not stress about the dreadful heat..Every time I walked into the room I breathed a sigh of relief. It felt just beautiful. Polocool didn't miss a beat! It was put well and truly to the test in the worst possible temperatures! I give it 10/10! I hope my review may help others, who like me, was a bit overwhelmed by all the different brands, makes and models, and very mixed reviews. I was so confused! I heard about Polocool on my local radio station. I thought the ad sounded promising. And as it turns out, I was right! Polocool also comes with a two year replacement warranty (I took out a further 3 years for peace of mind). Now, I no longer spend my days worrying about the hot weather. What a relief! :)

Fan Blower Replacement Part
Hi .I have a polocool PC-53AP/C. The fan blower that pushes the hot air out of the unit, is been shredded to pieces.I'm looking for a replacement. I've located a parts supplier company that has the part in stock however they don't sell direct to public.Any assistance in purchasing the part would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Fan blower screw-on nut was not tightened properly from manufacturer.Caused the exhaust fan blower to shred to pieces .

Cools a small volume of room at the same time as it sucks a large volume of hot air into the room
When installed as per manufacturers recommendations, it did a poor job of cooling in a detached fully insulated and sealed studio.
The problem is any air pumped out by the unit has to come in to the room somehow, either through the door cracks or around windows. It outputs a small amount of cold air into the room,, but hot air that is pumped out of the room via the window has to be replaced by much hotter air coming in from outside. On a day when the outside temp was 35, the inside temp reached 30deg regardless of where the thermostat was s...Read more

Polocool 5.5kw Portable AirCon
Currently renting a 2 bedroom north facing, rooftop unit with poor insulation (sheet metal roof), one window. The living/dining/kitchen is open plan and is about 55sq.m. When it is 35degrees C. outside this unit runs all day to keep the room comfortable cool (not ice cool), alternatively the thermostat set to about 27deg C. will make the unit cut off to save money but keep the room a little warmer.
The unit is the most powerful unit I could find, after 1 month I have not had to empty the water yet
Paid $940 for the unit from Harvey Norman B...Read more

resulting airflow changes mean that the room is positively pressurised by the cold air coming out of the a/con, displacing hot air out of the room at the same time. Normal venting for this machine means that it pumps hot air out of a room and draws warm outside air in to the room through door seals or vents, then has to cool that as well.hi im not sure what this means would you be able to explain it in laymans terms, thank you so much :)
The basic problem with a one duct unit is that when it is turned on it tries to cool but lots of warm air comes in at the same time. Stand by the closed bedroom door and you will feel this warm air ... Read more
trying to get in around the edges and mix into the room. Your air conditioner pumps hot waste air out of your window through the exit vent. The air going out through the window has to be replaced by air coming in from somewhere else. That replacement air must come inside the room via any open cracks, flyscreens, doors, windows, or wall or ceiling vents. The replacement air is hot outside air (35deg?) and will be warming the room all the time while the machine mixes a bit of cold air with it to make it 'cooler'. I have arranged to stop the leaks and only let this outside air come in directly to the machine through a 2nd duct, and not mix with the room air. Result is much cooler room. 35 deg day used to give 30deg room, now it can operate to less than 25 deg, a 10deg difference.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

An excellent Air Conditioner
I bought a Polocool 5.5KW model and I love it. When it's 34 degrees outside, the Polocool cools my 25 sq metre bedroom down to 23 degrees in a couple of minutes. I am sure that this Air Con could easily cool a much larger area with ease. I am extremely happy with it. It is a bit noisy, but that doesn't bother me because I could sleep through a train wreck! In fact I think the noise helps me sleep. Prices do vary considerably. I bought mine from Harvey Norman on Sale, and paid $799.00. You can buy this Air Con online for $899.00, which is still...Read more
good value, because this unit is clearly of very good quality, and the relief and comfort that it will provide you with, makes it worth every cent. Apart from cooling the air it also purifies the air. I have suffered from Hay Fever for over 20 years, and every morning I would wake up sneezing because of airborne dust. I don't sneeze in the mornings anymore, because the Polocool has filtered the air. For people who rent, this Air Con is perfect. Highly recommended.2 comments
Did you pay cash for this unit?
Hi did they extend the warranty for free? :)

I was surprised
Renting a weatherboard house in QLD is the pits in summer. Thank goodness for the polo cool. It cools the lounge, dining and kitchen as good as a split and I can't complain about the performance. However, I thought i'd buy 2 units to cool the hallway leading to the bedrooms but using both together trips the safety switch. Also it's too loud for bedrooms but much quieter than some of the other brands available. The window kit is very easy too use. Be wary of price differences between stores. I bought from Harvey Norman and they dropped their pri...Read more
ce from $1299 to $899. I'm sure you can get a better price but I needed to buy the unit that particular day. I'd highly recommend this unit. If it was a little quieter i'd give it 5 stars. Cools a large area. Very happy with performance Too loud for bedroom.7 comments
Interesting on the price - down in NSW they are still advertising for $1295 at Harvey Norman!!!! Can you advise what store you brought it from, any details so I can use this to possibly get a better price?
Thanks

Extremely Happy with it's performance
I was originally going to buy a Dimplex unit but after hearing the the Dimplex and PoloCool operating side by side in the showroom I was sold on the PoloCool as it was significantly quieter in operation. It is also nearly maintenance free with no water container to fill or empty unless you use it in dehumidify mode where you will then need to drain the water.
It has performed above and beyond my expectations for a Portable Unit and does an excellent job at cooling down the office/study and main bedroom (18 and 25sqm) to 22 degrees while out...Read more
side is 30+. I haven't tried the unit in the loungeroom as there is a split system in the living areas but I am confident it can cool closed rooms up to 39msq as it claims. The included window kit is basic and will fit windows up to 1200mm, I ended up buying a roll of foam weather strip to put on either side of it as it doesn't do a good job of sealing the window on it's own and I had to drill a hole and fit a screw to suit my windows. The unit is on the larger side for the portable unit's and takes a little bit of effort to push on carpet but is still ok to maneuver. The instruction manual is comprehensive and clearly explains installation, operation and variables that will effect it's efficiency. Having said that the unit is quieter than some other models it is still a bit too loud to sleep with in the bedroom. I was a bit apprehensive at first due to not knowing the brand but got the warranty extended up to 5yrs and a very significant discount on the ticket price, shop around as you can get a considerable chunk slashed off these units which makes it very competitive against the smaller units considering it's size. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase of this unit and would have given it 5 stars if it was a touch quieter. Cools small rooms quickly, quieter than alot of other models, has a swing function on the air outlet, remote control, 2yr factory warranty, window kit included, no water containers to fill or empty, can be purchased for the same (if not less) price as smaller units if you haggle/shop around Even though it's quieter than alot of other models it's still on the loud side for the bedroom3 comments
Hi, did you pay cash for the unit? What did you end up paying for it. Thanks
I just bought one of these units from Harvey Norman logan home was marked $1295 told the guy seen it for $850 - $900 on reviews from their website. Guy walked away came back and offered me $900 and 5 yr warranty for $159
That's fantastic thanks for the info :)
