Hy-Clor Poseidon MK2 Automatic (page 2 of 4)
Don't do it
Purchased a year ago, likes to stick to the sides only, good suction, looks like a Kreepy Crawley just doesn't work like one.
The units plastic support arm decided to break today, I'm very happy as I now have a reason to throw it away.
It is rubbish, if you don't want to buy a Kreepy Crawley, but happy to waste your money, come but my broken unit and save yourselves from the expectation of it working. A new one from Bunnings will give you the same outcome

Budget cleaner does the job
I was looking for a budget pool cleaner that only had to last until the pool is removed. Replacing the Kreepy Krauly would cost over $600 so decided to purchase this unit for $200.
I found the instructions easy to follow and within 30 minutes it was in the water.
You get what you pay for. The unit and hose have a cheap feel consistent with its low price but all it had to do is work. And work it does.
Some adjustment of the water control valve (just hooked up to the existing Kreepy valve on the skimmer plate) to increase pulse rate and it wa...

On comparison - Average
So it is that time again when my pool cleaner needs TLC. Background: I live amongst trees and use a pool blanket. I have had four of these in 12 years replaced for different reasons. One frequent fault is the cleaner's flapper causes the holding plate to vibrate just enough to wear around the recessed lugs. This make the plate loose enough to 'suck' onto the flapper stopping it from moving. I have used Stainless Steel screws or 'Knead It' fibreglass to fix the problem by inserting them at the worn point/s. While this extends the cleaning actio...
Read moren life, the hoses are rubbish and at $139 for new hoses (10 x $13.90), I've replaced the whole unit ($199) to save ongoing issues with the flapper. When 1 hose begins to split you can guarantee the others will follow closely. I have read the product reviews of many others and at double the price for (maybe) double the life, I feel that this cleaner performs adequately at a few dollars per week. Just expect a complete unit change-out every 2-3 years and you'll be less disappointed.- 2 reviews

Wished I had of left it at bunnings
I also had nothing but trouble with mine it was always stopping only lasted one summer. Now I have a Hayward pool vac XL best thing I have ever got. Beauitful clean pool all the time no standing out there cleaning it by hand and I can't even hear it working well worth the money.

So frustrating!
Got this cleaner less than a month ago and it has been nothing but trouble. The longest it has worked with no intervention is two days. It does not deal with leaves or any litter without clogging and stopping working. It doesn't do the sides very well and is just super frustrating. Only good thing is that it is cheap so you get what you pay for. If you have no leaf debris in your pool it would work a dream of it weren't so noisy.
Probably OK for light leaf litter. No good for gum leaves
This looked like it could be a great buy at the price. It was easy to set up and moved around the pool very quickly.
Unfortunately it stopped frequently. This model has two intake holes in the base and gum leaves had a tendency to get stuck when one end of the leaf would go through one hole and the other end through the other hole. If you have trees with short, small leaves this would be fine. But with gum leaves this unit stopped every few minutes. You have to fish it out the pool and clean it out.
Great product for the price!!
I was reluctant to buy a cheap cleaner. ..but so glad I did! ! Easy to assemble. ..easy to adjust....works well in my pool which has very few leaves. Gets stuck in the corner sometimes, but usually sorts itself out...even if it only lasts 2 seasons. ..great for the price. ..and more effective than the creepy crawly which I kept having to buy replacement parts for.

Very Low Quality Product
This product deteriorated much faster than I hoped.
The hoses worked fine for the duration of the 12 months warranty. They all failed miserably in the second season. I had to replace them all with hoses from Masters at an expense of nearly $100.
After the second season, nearly all the cleaner's body was consumed even though my pool has a smooth finish. The twins pipes were actually perforated with the friction generated by the adjustable float. The sucker no longer worked. I repaired it by covering the holes with an electrical conduit.

Terrific low cost alternative
Just purchased this from Bunnings for $189 after my creepy crawly gave up on me. I have to say, and this review is only after an hour of use, it's terrific. No doubt louder than my previous cleaner, with audible noises from pipe joints, but this could be overcome with one length of tube as opposed to the connectable ones provided. Anyway, pool is amazingly clean compared to before, I'm surprised how well it actually cleans. A lot of the concerns around the product is it's ability to pick up leaves, I can't comment here but it's doing a far bett...
Read moreer job than previous cleaner thus far. Hopefully it's easy to trouble shoot when an issue arises but so far, good value for money! Pros: Cost, spare part availability, easy to put together, solid cleaner Cons: a tad noisyFind out how Hy-Clor Poseidon MK2 Automatic compares to other Suction Pool Cleaners

Hy Clor slider vac review
Absolute total piece of crap. Purchased for $250 at Bunnings. Despite countless adjustments with and without weights, weights at different positions, various pump pressures, with and without hose swivel, this unit have never worked correctly. Doesn't pick up some leaves despite going directly over them. Front of diaphragm never sits down perfectly. The unit follows the exact same path. I had an original Barracuda for 17 years and it worked perfectly. I have looked after my pool myself for 21 years and know how to adjust a cleaner. I can never g...
Read moreet this to work right. I've given up. Total waste of money. I can't express just how bad this thing is. My advice would be to not even think about buying this unit. I'd give this a zero rating if zero was available.- 6 reviews

Much Improved From Previous Version.
I got one of these in 2011 and it was useful but too fragile. Purchased 'new improved' one in 2013 after 1st one broke for the last time. Most of the problems with the earlier one have been fixed. The throat has been redesigned and doesn't clog easily. The plastic parts are made from something much tougher and have no noticeable wear or damage after almost 2 years. The hoses are not fully uv stable (odd for something that spends its life in the sun) and after 2 years have become brittle and split when put under too much stress. With few new sections of pipe, I expect another couple of years out of this one base on the condition it's in now. For the price I doubt you'll find better.
Works well enough
Was concerned about negative reviews but soon realised that all pool cleaners have some negative reviews. This cleaner is good value for money. Have had for 6 months and it continues to clean well. Any problems have been due to human error or twigs caught up in the cleaner. Will climb walls when filter is clean and 3-speed pump is on 2nd highest speed. Not 100% random pattern as some paths are more well traveled (esp. around bottom edges). It is a large unit compared to others and does not always pick up leaves. Had to buy 2 extra tubes. Cost is well below that of other brands, which might work better so buy this if you want value for money or are willing to accept a cheap mistake if it doesn't work well for you.

Poseidon MK2
Just about does the job but could achieve this with a manual hoover on a long hose. I will need to dump it soon after using for 2 years and will spend more next time. Some of the cons below are also a problem with $700 - $800 devices.
Pros
Priced at about $180 way below rest of market similar products
Easy to set up and go
Cons
It's cheap and the quality tells:
Hoses perished within 12 months and $80 to replace.
Main body now leaks air and so unit is less effective with poor suction

Hy-Chlor Slider Vac
Bought this a week ago and it has my pool sparkling clean. Excellent price, local product support and parts available at Bunnings how could you go wrong. Works a lot better without the ring on the top. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for this type of pool cleaner.

ok for the price
Good customer service over the phone. The unit itself is Good for the $188 i paid. My only gripeis that I have trouble with it going up the shallow end.
Why Pay $800+ for the same result?
After my Zodiac Barra. Gen 1 was finally not worth repairing I shopped around to find a new pool cleaner. My local pool shop recommended a Creeepy Crawly costing $800+ dollars and said the cheaper products were rubbish. So in defiance I immediately crossed the road to Bunnings Wearhouse where I picked up a HY CLOR MK2 Automatic pool cleaner (Poseidon) for only $180 with 10m of hose and one year warrantee included. I am pleased to say it hasn't missed a beat. I recommend not using the weights provided and the length of hose should be one metre l...
Read moreonger than your pool. It gets in and out of corners well also. Bunnings also have a money back guarantee. It doesn't make sense to spend more on a pool cleaner when this one does the same. Don't be fooled by the big brand names and Thier big sales pitch. Hope this helps .....Have a magnificent day - the choice is yours!- 5 reviews

Sometimes good for clean pools
Great price and works like a charm some of the time over some parts of the pool as long as there are no leaves.
Easy to set up - but gets blocked easily by leaves - just hates casurina needles. If there are no leaves it will go like a charm for days and clean up scunge and sand on the bottom, but times it just stops for no apparent reason - then equally will just start again.
It rarely gets to the far end of the pool and unfortunately every now and again it just ties itself in knots.
Good for clean pools with little leaf litter
I have a pool with gums leaves regularly being blown into the pool. My Genie was worn out so I decided to give this a go. Assembly was easy. For the pool installation I simply removed the old genie and replaced it with this one. It worked immediately but stopped after encountering a few leaves. This was the pattern for the whole week I tried it. It appears the 'mouth' of the pool cleaner mechanism becomes clogged very quickly when there are more than a few leaves. After putting up with this for a week I returned it. I could see this being a good pool cleaner if the pool doesn't get leaves or possibly only a few of them. For the price, for the right circumstances, it could be a good pool cleaner.
11 mths old & still going
I too was nearly put off by the bad reviews. Owned one for nearly 12 mths only complaint had to start replacing split hoses from about 8-9 mths but we never taken it out of pool, hence lasted everyday in sun that long. Replacement hoses are about $12 each and we are looking to try a one piece length very shortly. It did take a while to function properly like Jez says but we put this down to extremely dirty floor covered with slime. Once we backwashed a few times and brushed floor it started doing its job.
Works great! Can't understand some of the negative reviews.
I hesitated to purchase this as I saw some of the negative reviews on here. I thought I'd try it and if it really was a piece of rubbish I'd take it back to Bunnings for a refund. I've had it for four days and I'm very happy with it. It's replaced a Kreepy Krawly that had done a great job, but was over 10 years old and failing. This seems just as good as the Kreepy for one quarter the price. It climbs the walls nicely, which the Old Kreepy had stopped doing.
Poseidon Pool Cleaner
I have had my pool cleaner for about 6 or 7 summers and I reckon its great. Yes I have had to do some minor repairs along the way but i know this is the case with the more expensive cleaners as my colleague has one.
Be happy that you saved $500 bucks and spread the word instead of moaning.

Piece of cr*p and service useless
Purchased this piece of cr*p at before Christmas connected it up, adjusted the weights, spent all day trying to get it do more than one run before getting stuck in the corners. Rang the helpline the next day and the "expert" on this product wasn't in yet and would call me when they got in. Guess what no call, rang back the next day twice eventually got a call which as useful as pockets in underpants. Only way to get it work is stand there and moving it out of the corners. So after spending all this time of time over several weeks trying to get ...
Read morethe thing to actually clean anything out of the pool at all. Wasted so much time on it now I have purchased another brand. I will never buy another product from this company. Cheap and you get what you pay for!! Everything about itWaste of time and money
Got one as an xmas present. Connected it up, adjusted the weights, spent a reasonable amount of time over several weeks trying to get the thing to actually clean anything out of the pool at all. No luck. It moves around ok, but doesnt seem to clean much of anything. Checked for blockages. In the end, I chucked the useless pile of rubbish.
Not as bad as we thought
After reading many negative reviews we were worried about purchasing this cleaner but decided to give it a go knowing we could take it back to bunnings if it didn't work out. Happy to say that we have found the Poseidon pool cleaner to be good value for money and not as bad as we read. We purchased a few extra pieces of hose and have had it running in our pool and we have been pleasantly surprised at its effectiveness and it's not as noisy as reviews made it out to be. We researched other pool cleaners and read their reviews and each one we res...
