Laminate Flooring

Is Quickstep Classic laminate scratch resistant and waterproof with longevity, or is Hybrid vinyl better and more hard Wearing?

Technical Services Q.Quick-Step Flooring

Good afternoon Mary,

Yes, Quick-Step Classic is highly scratch resistant and comes with a 5 year wet damage warranty.

Laminate flooring is more resistant to scratch, scuff and stains than vinyl or hybrid flooring. This is because vinyl flooring is coated with a type of lacquer that is nowhere durable as the high quality melamine surface of Quick-Step laminate.

Good afternoon Mary,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding our Quick-Step 8mm Classic Laminate Flooring.

Quick-Step Laminate flooring is widely regarded as the best product of it's type in the world.

No hard flooring product available warrants against marking or scratching as such manufactures talk in degrees of resistance. Similarly no hard floor producer gives a 100% guarantee against water damage so manufacturers talk in degrees or types of resistance.

Quick-Step Classic is highly resistant to marks and scratches shown through many happy customers since the launch of Quick-Step Laminates in Australia in 1996.

Now with new waterproof surface we guarantee against water damage for 5 years from installation (excluding flooding or appliance failure).

Many thousands of Australians happily live on their Quick-Step floors for many many years with great satisfaction however such customers rarely bother with product reviews.

Our long term partners and retailers are really the best people to provide direct customer reviews.

Please let us know where you are located and we can provide you with the closest high quality Quick-Step Retailer to you.

Good afternoon Tina,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Quick-Step Eligna EL3581 Newcastle Oak Dark Laminate Flooring.

It is quite a dark floor and would come down to personal preference, size of the areas you want to install the floor and the light source i.e. natural light vs artificial lighting. On page 3 of our current laminate catalogue is a dining room shot https://www.quick-step.com.au/en-au/laminate/eligna/el3581_newcastle-oak-dark

If you go into a retail store you can view a sample of the board, some retailers let you take a sample board home for a few days so you can see how it looks in your home.

Technical Services Q.Quick-Step Flooring

Good morning Ainsley,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Quick-Step Laminate.

Quick-Step Laminate ranges including Impressive and Majestic are ideal in areas of direct sunlight.

They are highly fade resistant (much more colour stable than vinyl or wood) and unaffected by surface temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius.

As with all flooring coverings, best results are achieved by providing sensible protection from direct sunlight.

Hello, Thank you in advance for a quick response. For a kitchen remodel, can a Quick-Step floating laminate floor be laid after removing the old cabinets, before installing new kitchen cabinets a few months from now? We need to place the order for the floors tomorrow...Monday, 17 February. (Just saw others' comments and did not know this could be an issue.)

Good afternoon Shawn,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the installation of our Laminate in your kitchen. Our installation instructions recommend that cooking island for kitchens and other very heavy objects (cabinets) should be installed first and not placed on top of the laminate. The laminate floor must be able to move around the heavy objects to avoid open joints and separating planks. If you can send a private message with your email address we can email through the full installation instructions for you to review.

Timber Flooring

We are considering laying the quickstep timber light /wide boards over existing original timber hardwood floorboards. Is this possible? What sort of underlay is used please. Thanks

Quick-Step Flooring
Technical Services Q.Quick-Step Flooring

Good afternoon Erin P.,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the installation of your Quick-Step Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF) over an existing sub-floor of hardwood timber.

Firstly, 2mm Quiet-Step Combi-Lay Underlay is an acoustic underlay that provides excellent impact sound reduction.

As per our installation instructions (which I'm happy to email to you):

Remove any damp-porous floor covering (carpet, needle felt etc.) first. Damp-sealed floor covering (PVC, linoleum, VCT, etc.) does not have to be removed. Always use an underlay (as mentioned above).

WOODEN SUB-FLOOR: Remove any existing floor covering first. No signs of mould and/or insect infestations should be present. Make sure the sub-floor is level. Nail down any loose parts. If the wooden sub-floor is flat (no unevenness greater than 2mm over the length of 1 meter), you can install any Quick-Step underlay. Wood sub-floors with unevenness greater than 2mm/LM should be sanded, leveled or sheeted along with a suitable underlay to render them flat and stable.

Install the new floor at ninety degrees to the existing sub-floor. The crawl space under the plank floor must be sufficiently ventilated. Remove any obstacles and make sure there is sufficient ventilation (minimum 4cm2 (1/2“) total ventilation openings per m2 (40”) of floor). The moisture content of the wood sub-floor must not exceed 10%.

Make sure that your sub-floor is flat, clean, dry and stable prior to installation of your underlay and new EWF.

Cooking islands and cabinetry for kitchens should be installed first and not placed on top of the timber floor. The timber floor must be able to move (expand and contract) around heavy objects to avoid open joints and separating planks.

Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia

Thank you for the detailed response. Just one question? The exisiting floor boards run lengthways down a long hall way, it would look silly to lay new boards at 90 degrees. Is it imperative that they are run at 90 degrees to the existing floor - or could it run the same way. Thank you.

Quick-Step Flooring
Technical Services Q.Quick-Step Flooring

Good morning Erin P.,

The replacement can be installed in either direction as long as the sub-floor is flat, clear, dry and stable.

Also remember the floor can be glued down or floated depending on your preference and that of your retailer.

Good afternoon Maho,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding our Quick-Step 9.5mm Majestic Laminate flooring. 2mm Quiet-Step Combi-Lay Underlay is an acoustic underlay that provides excellent impact sound reduction.

Quick-Step Majestic Laminate has a waterproof surface and is treated with Scratch Guard on the top layer. Steam-mops are permitted for use on Majestic.

In relation to installing the flooring in your wardrobes please note that the built-in wardrobe needs to be installed prior to the floor being installed. The floor is a floating floor and needs to be able to expand and contract.

If you'd like a copy of the installation instructions please let me know.

Hi, we are considering laying Quickstep Majestic range in our new build on a concrete raft floor. The area is roughly 13.5mx6.5m. Is there a need to have reinforcement breaks in this? Or is it safe to lay it in one? Thanks in advance

1 answer
Quick-Step Flooring
Technical Services Q.Quick-Step Flooring

Good morning Hope M.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the installation of our 9.5mm Quick-Step Majestic Laminate flooring on a raft concrete sub-floor.

As per our installation instructions (which I'm happy to email to you):

A new concrete floor must dry at least 1 week per 1cm (3/8”) thickness up to 4cm (1”). Thicknesses over 4cm (1”) require twice as much drying time. For example, a 6cm (2”) concrete sub-floor must dry for a least 8 weeks. Concrete moisture must not exceed 75%RH when measured in accordance with AS1884. As the drying times are really depending on the climate conditions and the ventilation of the building, these timings are only indicative.

Make sure the sub-floor is level. Any unevenness greater than 2mm over the length of 1 meter must be smoothed out. The same applies to any unevenness of more an 1mm over a length of 20cm.

Make sure that your sub-floor is flat, clean, dry and stable.

Cooking islands and cabinetry for kitchens should be installed first and not placed on top of the laminate. The laminate floor must be able to move (expand and contract) around heavy objects to avoid open joints and separating planks.

If your floor is going into two separate areas within the house a control joint should be installed in the door way to compartmentalise each room, however if your measurement above is for one room and this room will be keep at a laminate friendly temperature you may not require an expansion joint.

Hi there. We had colonial quickstep installed into our new house about four years ago now. We were given the hard sell by our local supplier and after considering many different options for a family house we were convinced to go with colonial quickstep. It was sold to us as a hard wearing, easy to care for flooring for a family and that if their was any damage we could simply replace individual strips/panels. (we were considering bamboo, tiles, wooden floorboards etc but this was sold to us as the best option - they even did the key test to prove the wear of it!) After about six months we felt disappointed with the wear and look of the floor. We bought the correct cleaning product and sought advice from our local supplier. We still felt disappointed and spoke to them again. They said they would send a representative out to look at the floor but did not. I went back into the shop a few months later and asked about any kind of repair kit that could perhaps help the little chips that had been appearing and were told that there wasn’t anything that could help. After a few months I wrote an email to the company about my disappointment with the product and just to see what we could do about it. We received no help from our local supplier but eventually a travelling rep came to see us last year. He was lovely (Nick). He took photos, looked at the floor closely and could tell that we are not people that would wear shoes inside or be tough on the floor. He seemed genuinely surprised at the state of the floor and said he would be seeking advice as to what we could do. He also informed us that this flooring is no longer in stock and we were unable to replace the individual panels like we had been told that we would when we bought the product. (We had not be been aware that there was a chance that this flooring could be discontinued) Nick was very genuine in expressing his concern about the floor and said he would speak to his bosses and be back in touch. Unfortunately this has never happened and despite my messages etc we have not heard anything further. It has been only four years since we have been in our house, three of which we have been trying to get some advice/answers about the flooring. If it continues at the rate it is going we can see that we will potentially need to replace the flooring in the very near future. It is a cost that we had not factored in and had certainly not anticipated having to do in a reasonably new house. I am writing to seek advice to see if there is anything we can do to improve the state of the flooring or find strips of our flooring that may be in stock somewhere.
Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
Kate

I am considering laying quick step intenso chevron, and understand the width of the boards are 310mm. We would like run them lengthways down the hallway which has a width of 1100mm. Therefore just over 3.5 boards are required to cover the width of the hallway. From an installation perspective can you suggest the best way to lay these, given using over half a board won't mean the design is symmetrical i.e. on one side pattern that finishes against the wall won't be the same as the pattern that reaches the wall on the other side.

Thanks

Good afternoon Belinda,

Thank you for contacting Quick-Step Australia regarding expansion joints in your flooring.

During installation lengths of more than 13 meters and widths of 13 meters, there should be an intermediate expansion joint, to allow for linear growth and shrinkage.

If you have a floor plan with the room dimensions (even hand drawn is okay) you could email to [email protected] we can review it and advise if or where we would recommend an expansion joint.

All of these floors mentioned above can be used in wet areas in conjunction with the Hydrokit and PE Foam ensuring a waterproof surface and comes with a Residential Wet Area Warranty when installed this way.

Good morning BlueBobble (KV),

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Quick-Step Majestic Laminate Range. Yes, steam mop cleaning is permitted for use on our Quick-Step Majestic Laminate floors. In relation to installation within wet areas i.e. kitchen / bathroom / laundry it is advised to use the Hydrokit and PE foam rod to seal the perimeter when installing Majestic laminate flooring in wet areas, it'll make your perimeters watertight.

What type of floor waste (floor drain) are you going to have? What gradient of fall are you considering? If you can send your answers to [email protected] we'll be able to advise you further.
