Crappy Service
After over 10 years insured... 7 policies... they consistently jack up the premiums by over 25% every year (despite no claims). Decided we had enough of that and got a quote elsewhere... cheaper than what we paid 3 years ago with RACQ... so changed... RACQ now taking 3 weeks to process refund - what a great advertisement to remind us not to go back to them.

Unjustifiable rate increases
I used to think RACQ was a solid honest company. However after a 21% increase in premiums for our home and contents insurance policy this year, not so sure any more. Had a couple of discussions with them, they said rate was higher for several reason, and dropped the increase to a mere 18% after some clarification but said that was the best they could do. One reason they gave was no longer got the online discount for a renewal. One was they had increased the value of the property by over 7%, despite council not increasing the value this year, an...Read more
d even despite low inflation rates. But these accounted for only a small amount of the rise. The rest they finally said was because their rates have risen. We discussed the widespread outrage that people feel when their health insurance goes up 6% every year! but that this is nothing compared to an 18% increase and a take it or leave it attitude. So have gone elsewhere. Car, CTP and road side assist to follow.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

RACQ-Once trustworthy, now unethicla, untrustworthy, devious plus many more synonyms
I was once insured with AMP Fire & General which were taken over by RACQ some years ago. Made a minor storm claim and assessors from STREAM called. Sent a plumber to inspect the roof who managed to leave muddy finger marks on the manhole cover. Finally agreed water damage was a result of fierce winds causing a tile to lift and leave ceiling stains on study. Agreed to paint study ceiling on condition that I first pre-pay an excess of $500. Obtained a private quote from a licensed painter who quoted $110+GST who did an excellent job. Cons...Read more
equently withdrew claim and saved $350. RACQ will rip you off under pretence that they were at arm's length to that of their paid assessors, who are given a license to act dishonourably albeit legally. Now with Alliance and had a storm claim and more than happy with their assessors AllTrades Qld. who acted in a manner expected of a reputable Coy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Disappointing Service
Have been a customer of RACQ Insurance for many years and could never fault them on their claims service. However, a couple of days ago, I had an emergency with plumbing and thought I would try their Home Quickfix that was a new component of the Home and Contents Insurance. When I made the call, I was encouraged to pay an additional $159 that would give me 4 call outs for free under the HOME RESCUE. I was also told that they would try to fix the issue within the first hour at no cost. The tradesman did arrive in a timely manner, however, he wa...Read more
nted $800 to fix it after hours or quoted an approximate price of $400 the next morning. However, I was contacted in the morning and was told it would cost me $600. I then phoned my local plumber who did the whole job for $290!!!! I do not understand the value of the alleged service that I paid for. Would have been cheaper if I didn't do the upgrade. RACQ even tried to set up an automatic renewal. Thank God I did not agree with that. Very disappointing RACQ.

Ok until you have to make a claim.
Like all insurance policies it just keeps getting dearer. Customer service what customer service, a foreign laungage to the insurer. As stated in other reviews the amount of time the insurer takes to start repairs let alone complete the repairs is unbelievable, I'm my case 6 months a still waiting. Crawford and Company seem to the main holdup and the insurers processes completely in disarray.

RACQ listened to my situation and acted.
I have just taken out home and contents insurance from RACQ for $1400 instead of $2400 that was quoted by two other major insurers. The problem is that part of my acreage property floods, but the house sits six metres above flood level and will never flood. RACQ allowed me to present the facts (contour satellite photos, council flood mapping) to a person who within 24 hours of my first contact agreed with this evidence and reduced the premium. With the other companies, I could never speak to a person. RACQ has a flood centre with staff who have...Read more
experience in assessing cases on an individual basis and making a decision. I strongly recommend that anyone who has a unique situation leading to exorbitant home and contacts insurance premiums take their case to RACQ for another quote.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Unjustified Increases to premium
I just received my renewal notice and after having a look at my previous year's notice it seems that the premiums went up by a good 30+ percent.
I believe myself to be quite reasonable, I mean, even a 10 percent rise which is much higher than the CPI would be somewhat acceptable, but considering I'm a bronze member, have made no claims and even have the maximum excess selected just leaves an awful taste in my mouth. Any increase in premiums should obviously be justified with more than "we need more profit".
Do yourself a favour and have a look elsewhere for home and contents insurance.

They just got too greedy for my liking.
I just got my Home Building insurance renewal notice from RACQ and it has increased from $625 to $833. That is approximately a 33% increase in premium in one year! I have never had a claim and that price is supposedly including a Silver Members discount.
I looked around and have now insured my house with NRMA for $521 with the same excess and a $15k larger cover amount. RACQ was the second most expensive quote I looked at for 5 companies. Get real RACQ and stop being greedy, you might keep your loyal customers that way.
I must say the guy I talked to on the phone when cancelling my policy was very helpful and polite.

Excellent service
Just finished repairs caused by a storm. We found RACQ home insurance to be great. They had people on site within 24 hours to make safe and then their assessor was promptly dispatched to assess and approve final repairs. We have nothing but good things to say about their professionalism and response.

Poor handling of case
Made a claim straight after a severe weather event and it took four months for the claim to be declined on their definition of significant event.
Crawfords took over 100 days to look at the case. Builders came out twice, once without taking photos or notes. Four weeks later another person from the same builder attended and stayed for literally 5 minutes.
I have no doubt I'm heading to the Ombudsman.

Please use any other insurance company I beg of you
My house in Brisbane was insured with RACQ from 1999 to 2016. I had no problems with them and honestly very little cause to use them until January 2013 when my home was hit with storm and tempest event that effected most of Brisbane. It all seemed OK to start with yet took the entire year to sort out. The company stream was most at fault and they insisted all insured people deal with them. The workmanship was appalling and they used builders that no one would hire. The home is 50 years old and had minor damage compared to the new homes near by ...Read more
With ours and only a piece of timber flew off which lead them to believe that it had faulty construction and I needed a new roof at my expense. It didn't yet they had 3 roof inspections to no avail and I eventually hired my own roof inspector who found the problem in 10 mins. The problem was fixed for 2000 instead of the 15,000 a new roof would cost. They agreed to pay for repairs inside but not the outside? Not sure how that works as I was fully insured. Again in 2015 a similar event happened this time instead of sending an assessor in they descided to use the details of the first claim and everything. They ordered made no sense as most of the damage was completely different and the meterage of flooring ordered was incorrect both times. My tenants with a young family were standing on soggy flooring for 7 months which had to have terrible bacteria as it was the stormwater drain which overflowed. A council problem not on my property. The whole thing is still not fixed and the ombudsman took 9 months to tell me that they were ruling in favour of RACQ who hadn't told anyone involved that stream had gone into receivership and then liquidation --at the same time as I reported the problem. This in itself is illegal. And the ombudsman is defiantly not doing their job constantly blaming lack of staff im not surprised. The whole thing has left me with a house that is now impossible to sell and hard to rent and has over a hundred thousand dollars worth of repairs not done. The BSA has no record of Streams builders license and yet they were the only supplier for RACQ from 2007 to 2015. They seem to have had a rort going on as my home had 17 inspections at 500 each and no very little repairs. They originally thought they could repair the property for less than 20,000 yet the inspections were over 8000 dollars. A disgrace and I hate to say my home is so high on a hill if it ever flooded the entire of Brisbane would need an ark. My policy with RACQ was 180 per month and I am now insured with ApIa which costs me 95 per month. Huge differenceSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

OK unless you make a claim.
Like all insurance RACQ was fine until we made a claim.
A long story short. We had some flooding after a storm which destroyed some carpet and lessor items all of which we are covered for. That was two months ago. While RACQ are apparently organizing the repairs they have in truth farmed our claim out to another company Crawford & Company (Australia) who are taking forever to do anything. We have been waiting 2 months so far for someone to come to measure and quote on the carpet replacement and to make matters worse they are difficult to con...Read more
tact as they are often on the phone and do not return your calls. We will probably have to go to the ombudsman to get them to actually organize the repairs that they have already agreed to provide. If you want an insurance company that provides no claim service and takes for ever to provide the services that you are insured for then RACQ is for you. Otherwise, like I will be if they ever complete the claim, use a different company for your home insurance. As a foot note our claim was finally completed with the help of the Ombudsman, if you are having trouble with RACQ contact FOS and they will help you. Fast.Similar opinion? Indifferent Customer Service
We have been with RACQ Home & Contents for many years and never had a claim. So, reading some of the reviews here I shudder to think what will happen if we ever make an actual claim. God forbid! I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating. However, I object to them pushing the 'Insured Value' of my home up and up every year, without reference to me or an actual building quote. Obviously most people just go along with this racket and don't bother or don't notice this insidious inflation of their premiums. Also, I find their attention to de...Read more

Been over 4 months now and still no settlement on claim
Worst company. Our aircon leaked 4 months ago and still we have not had our couch replaced I have provided quotes but they are not good enough for racq. RACQ are insisting on replacing with a lower quality and much smaller couch.
What happened to replace the item with new same quality and specifications.

Kind and helpful and priced competively
I changed our house and content insurance over to RACQ last year when our previous insurer bumped the price up a lot.
All the "paperwork" application was completed on the internet, it was all fairly straightforward.
Unfortunately, in this last storm season we suffered damage to our air conditioning unit. We had purchased motor fusion and so were covered and the RACQ claims staff we have dealt with have been so kind and helpful in every interaction with them.
It has taken a long time to repair it (12 weeks), but this really was out of t...Read more

Congratulations RACQ household insurance
I must congratulate RACQ Insurance on selecting Caylen Building Services to fix the storm damage to my house. All the staff were professional and polite and could not be any more helpful, so I hope you can pass on to them for my wife and myself how grateful we are for they handled the project, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to my friends, We are very happy with the completed repairs. And by the way I will be recommending RACQ Insurance to all my friends and family. Regards Dan Ryan of Cedar Vale, Queensland.

No running water for 2 months
We lodged a claim 8 weeks ago for our cold water pipes leaking under the slab and pouring out through the rest of the house (we can only turn our water on for 2hrs a day or the house gets flooded. Assessor came out and took all the photos and said that insurance would pay to have the plumbing re-routed (cost of $5000) as it is covered in our policy. We have now been told (2 months later) that our claim was rejected. I am a pensioner and been paying for household insurance for 50 years ($2000 per year) and never had a claim. I am now cancelling my policies. I hope they are proud of themselves that they can dupe an old lady.

RACQ are not insurers. They are IMA aka Insurance Australia Group Ltd
You will never deal with an actual RACQ employee. They will all be IAG once a claim has been made.
These guys are crooks. 26 months post fire and still nowhere near settled. They started with one page repair scope of works, then 1.2 pages. Sat on that for four months. Got one of their experts in who did a fair job, and created detailed 16 page Sow......then they ignored it. Watered it down to fit their preconceived figure.
We have detailed info showing that they created the payout figure prior too any costings. Also companies that have never...Read more
