large premium increases
A few years ago our airconditioner stopped working due to motor burnout. We lodged a claim but it was refused because we didn't have motor burnout on the building. Who has motor burnout on a building! When the airconditioner was installed I rang RACQ told them and they said I was covered. Anyway after a long and loud fight they gave us 1/3 the value of a replacement saying that it was a goodwill payment because there were health issues in the home. That was 5 years ago. In the past 12 months I have made one claim on our pet cover of $220.0...Read more

Check what you are covered for ! - Home & Contents
If your thinking or have home & Contents insurance with RACQ - think again!
General policies are created over the phone and the customer service officer won't explain the 'fine print' As they say its an option. If you don't know how insurance works you wouldn't know any better. Ensure you have either valuable 'selected items' or 'group cover' - this covers you for loss outside your home (ie in car, holidays etc) & accidental loss/damage within your home/outside.
Important ! - If you 'RENT' - RACQ don't cover you for accidental loss / damag...Read more
e (if you drop your led tv or laptop or have misplaced and item outside the home). Time frame for processing a claim said to be within 14days - that's garbage. If you don't keep calling RACQ to see how your claim is going - They wont call you. There customer service is the worst. If you have a pet - look at medibank pet insurance (expensive but very good). House & Contents - stay with the big companies (not racq) and read above :)

Good at taking your money. Not so good at honouring claims
1 month later, we're still waiting for our Tv to be replaced. They approved the claim but that means nothing when they don't pay up. Their best excuse yet is they're still waiting for the televisions to arrive in Australia. We switched from AAMI because the premiums were cheaper. Now we know why. If we were still with AAMI we would have received a replacement TV within a week and they would have called to make sure we were satisfied. RACQ, on the other hand, has the attitude of 'You were silly enough to pay your premiums now we'll treat you badly and you'll take it.'
Cheap premiums but very slow to honour claims.

not worth the papaer it is writen on. They will let you down when you need them most. Why put money into their banks when they don't care about you.
Nothing. They show no compassion and only think about their bottom line. Yes I am angry and will stay so till they fall I wish them nothing but Bad luck in their business total. If any out there understands Parvee will know what I am say here.
they showed me no compassion when they rejected my claim for flood damage. I was with them for more than 22 years for all our insurance needs (5 policies) an...Read more

Sadly I’m insured with RACQ. They have loop holes inside of loop holes. In the recent rain, one of my water tanks failed and pushed against my house causing damage. Although I have flood insurance it was determined that the tanks movement was caused by erosion of the ground beneath the tank. There is no evidence to support this. There is no ground erosion.
Then I was told it was due to ground subsidence. There is no evidence to support this. There has been no ground subsidence.
What actually happened is plain and simple. The tank failed...Read more
, expanded and pushed against my house. This has caused the damage to my house. Nothing Nothing Nothing - read the PDS it is what they will hide behind. Understand what flood and storm damage is and then what is covered. Or should that be what isn't covered. - read the PDS it is what they will hide behind. It is time the Queensland and Federal Governments stopped the likes of RACQ from operating behind loopholes.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

RACQ out source to Streambuild and they outsource again. You end up dealing with Streambuild and they lack communication with RACQ. Our relatively small claim is not fixed after 4.5 months. Our home security is comprised and our irritation level has risen to new heights. Many, many phone calls and letters have NOT succeeded in getting Streambuild to fix our damage. RACQ appear unable to control their outsource partner. Stay clear of RACQ because having a confirmed claim honored is near impossible.
Pay by the month premium
First ever claim is still not fixed after 4.5 months and no finalization in sight.

Good
I have not made a claim on the household insurance, as they tell me the premiums will go up, then you have the excess, so unless it is something over $350, don't bother. i had a camera, itemised on the policy for $450, silly me. Lost the camera and they offered me $100 for a camera replacement. Wasn't worth the bother, so i cancelled the claim. I guess they would be good if ever I needed a big claim for some drastic event.
I have RACQ home insurance, as a matter of fact, I have all my insurances with them. I get a percentage off for bulk insurance with the one company. I have three plus roadside assistance.
I sometimes feel I would like to change to another company, as they aren't the cheapest, but it is so much work to change.

OK
Recently I received my H&C renewal notice. They had nominally increased the insured amount by 7.5% (growing values in a declining market???), but the premium had increased by a staggering 29.55%! Being a pensioner I had to do something so I notified them that I wished to reduce the sum insured. The new premium would have actually increased! RACQ H&C insurance may appear inexpensive in the first year, but wait until the renewal. Then they'll get you.
And that damned insulting telephone voice robot which answers the 'phone. It is almost as bad as Telstra.
Good list of discounts particularly if you havea heap of policies with them, with an additional bonus for RACQ membership.
Getting expensive.

I have a new Insurance now who are great to deal with and FLOOD cover is not an extra but included in your policity no matter where you reside unlike RACQ no bullshit goobly gook straight up front info. Don't know why they have Royal in front of their name... well could be something to do with Fairies living at the bottom of the garden.. if you believe that then you will believe RACQ. Good luck
