$500 doesn't go far at the after hours emergency vet
Had 2 pets insured with RACQ, also have car, house and roadside assist. Easy claims process for pet claim (phone call and read out the items on the bill). $50 excess on claims means that really the payout on a claim has a max of $450.
However....Recent event on the eve of Christmas had me wishing I had a policy that would cover higher expenses. Choices are limited when you are looking at surgery for a sick dog and the vet comes into the room saying the costs will be more than $6000 to proceed to save the dog :(
Am left grieving the los...s of my pet over Christmas. Have come to this website to look at alternative policies that will cover more expensive vet procedures and bills if I'm ever faced with this sort of emergency situation again. Responsive phone staff, claim process straight forward Not enough money for a major health crisis, really only $450 max claim ($50 excess)
Consider not making small claims
We made a claim for $80 with our cat having cysitis, we paid first $50 and they paid $30. Ok, but our home and contents premium this year has gone up by $170!! Phoned RACQ and they said this is automatic as we had made a claim. Dosen't seem fair or worthwhile.
Seemed like a good deal?
Home and contents premium will go up ALOT even if its a small claim
Excellent for smaller claims, under $500 per illness, wish they offered a bigger claim process like normal insurance. They would be the best insurer within the industry I would think.
Everything, very understanding, friendly staff, caring, and easy claims
Sometimes the payout takes a few weeks
Was surprised re 2 pets and that RACQ would not bend even though I had been with them for 10 years+ and never made a single claim! Suncorp here we come.
Cheap cover for pets of up to $500 with a $50 excess.
You can only insure 2 pets under their pet cover. $500 wont go far if your pet is involved in a major accident
i agree that limiting the number of pets for people who have been with racq for many years is unfair. I have owned dogs for 12 years and currently have 5 and i have only ever needed surgery other than d/s (and never had any major illness) for one of them in those 12 years so i am not a high risk member
gives broad cover at a cheap price.
would be nice to have options of higher$ coverage on claims with higher premiums
Questions & Answers
Have you guys had any luck speaking to someone with regards to the insurance coverage? I've been transferred from WA to QLD, spoke to 6 people, still seem to not able to be directed to the right team/person. If this is how they are handling queries, I highly doubt they will be any better when it comes to claim time.
