Terrible product
Built a new house through Beechwood 2 years ago so didn't really get to chose the brand of hot water system we got.It was our first time having a heat pump so I thought it was great, until out first need for a technician to come and fix it.Tell me the the part has only 1 year warranty. What a joke $270 to fix it and after reading the reviews on here I'm sure there is going to be more repairs. What a waste of money.Stay away from Rheem and Beechwood need start using another company for their new houses. My last house had Hardie Dux and not 1 repair in 10 years.
Purchased in November 2021 for $3,000.00.

Stay clear of them.
Have needed to spend what the system cost initially again in repairs over the time I have owned it. Warranty appears worthless. Contacted the number Rheem advises for emergency repair and was told I should find someone myself if it's urgent. I won't bother contacting Rheem again for anything and certainly not a new hot water system.
Purchased in February 2021 for $3,200.00.

Needs fixing in under 5 years
I purchased a MPI 325 unit through Solahart newcastle in September 2014. Recently the TPR valve was gone and it had been leaking hot water and not producing enough hot water.
got the technician out and wants to charge me $260 for a valve replacement.
the 5 year warranty i am now told doesnt cover valves and other bits. very poor unit and from what i read below i am not alone!

So far so good
We have had solar hot water systems up until now but the growth of tall trees near our house has increased the shade and has made solar water heating less effective. So we have been relying on the backup electric heater and paying full price for electricity to heat our water - especially in winter. Since we don't have access to gas, the solution was a heat pump system. Due to the many negative reviews, I had not considered the Rheem units in our evaluation. However, all the other brands of heat pump water heaters were too tall to fit in the...Read more
only really practical location for the heater and we were forced back to the Rheem. Reluctantly, we agreed for the plumber to install the Rheem. After installation, it worked as expected, but two days later, both indicator lights were off. According to the manual, this was a fault condition. Now this is the only negative about Rheem that I experienced. Initial calls to Rheem indicated that this was the "new improved mode of operation" where the unit shut down completely once the tank was full of hot water. Not satisfied with this brush off, I caused a bit of a stink with Rheem and finally got onto a person who promised to send out a technician to look at it. He discovered an installation hick-up which caused the heat pump to shut down and the hot water we were still getting was from the back up heating element. He quickly fixed the problem and the unit has been working as expected since. The Rheem technician was very professional and definitely knew his product. So the only reason, Rheem doesn't get 5 stars is due to the front line staff trying to pull a fast one and brush me off with lies about the operation of their product.Purchased in August 2021 at Homegas.

2 Heat Pumps in 9 years!! Very poor quality!
We built our home late 2010, and the first unit lasted 6 years due to the compressor burning out. We installed another Rheem unit in October 2016, after being advised that they were a very good unit and to stick with them. This one hasn't even lasted two and a half years. Had an electrical friend who came and bypassed it for us so we could have hot water until a technician could come and inspect. Made many phone calls trying to get somebody to come and look at it and also contacted a Rheem consultant who advised me that there wasn't anybody in ...Read more
our area who could come and inspect the unit as we lived an hour away from the nearest technician. We have had to wait 3 and a half months for someone to look at it, and to find out that it will be very costly to repair and warranty does not cover it, once again the problem being a burnt out compressor. Lousy service, poor quality and a very expensive product. Do not purchase!Purchased in October 2021.

Leaky and rusty after 7 years
Installed in May 2012 the anode was replaced in 2016, recommended to avoid rusting and part of normal maintenance, so no problem with that. The service guy showed me the old anode and installed a new one.
In April 2022 there was rusty water coming out the top dripping down the sides of the tank. It still worked and I thought I could replace the tank. It was out of warranty after only 5 years which is comparatively low and unimpressive for Rheem which is meant to be quality. However the plumber advised that I would need a whole new system as ...Read more
the heat pump was out of warranty too and unlikely to last long. As a new one would be over $5000 installed this was too expensive for me and obviously had not saved me enough money to make it worthwhile. As I now have 5kW of solar panels it made more sense to install an ordinary electric storage HWS using solar power via the electricity generated. This cost me $1450 through Bunnings using a Dux system. Never using Rheem again although all the plumbers recommend them. Maybe some of them are OK or maybe the plumbers recommend them because they get "Rheem rewards" like holidays when they have enough points. The other issue was noise which although low disturbs your sleep at night if it comes on. It vibrated a lot at the beginning until I put a rubber wedge between the fan cover and the wall of the heat pump. The Dux is working great always hot water and is soundless. Seems to be better insulated too as I can't feel any heat from the outside of the tank, unlike the Rheem.Purchased in May 2021.

Poor Choice - very disappointed at bad investment
4 years use and Rheem's service man states it is stuffed and charges $145 without lifting a tool. This guy was plumber and had no idea how to fix a heat pump. Recommended I pay for a compressor technician to have a look at it.... Well that's what i thought i was paying them to come do. Why send a plumber when they knew it was a heat pump issue at the time i logged the service call. I contacted their customer service section but received absolutely no reply. Heat pump over temperature alarm and unit reverts back to 3600watt simple elect...Read more

Cost $instead of saving money - did not deliver on promise
Unit installed but heat pump did not work from day one. After many attempts to fix with heat pump working for 8 months out of five years Rheem washed their hands of it and told us that as the heat pump was faulty we needed to contact heat pump manufacturer. I don't think its my job to get their third party suppliers to fix equipment supplied under the Rheem name. We have now been paying for direct element water heating for over 4 years which I'm guessing runs into thousands of dollars of extra electricity bills when we thought we were being energy efficient.
Do not buy a Rheem heat pump!!!

Rheem should replace the whole unit with a different technology as clearly they can't make it last in line wit the actual length of service expected from a water heater

Rubbish
Purchased unit either late 2009, early 2010
After few months unit stopped and waited over 2 weeks for a technician to come out and have a look.
Rang head office several times and getting the run around. End up getting technician out who bypassed the pump until could come out and fix. Fixed a couple of weeks later.
Yesterday the unit stopped with 2 red lights flashing, technician came out and tried resetting with no luck.
Purchased in 2009-2010 and stopped using for about 1 1/2 years due to rebuilding house.
If you look at the cost and year...Read more

Called out to repair one of these today. The operation problems and faults were obvious. Complete engineering disaster applenty.
Due to how many of these installed locally we are looking at building a rework kit to save people some money. Unfortunately wont cover take failure.
Rheeme solar hot water is just as bad. Installers and rheem warranty agents dont have a clue.

The worst heat pump period
Purchased 2009, problems started around 12 mth Mark and then nearly every 24 months pretty much on cue, two electronic boards, a recall procedure fix a pipe I think, a tx valve then followed, with a huge bill to degas and regas, now the compressor has died as the onset of winter must of loaded it up too much, but I will not be going back for more punishment this time, three grand plus repairs down the drain . The good thing now is there are plenty of decent heat pumps out there on the market, Rheem should hang there head in shame at their i...Read more

RUN AWAY if you are considering buying one of these.
Garbage unit, now 7 years old and I have to replace it. Four warranty call outs in the first 3 years. Wires are burning near a connection and could possibly have caught fire. Worked well for a while but at a 3.5k cost now. RUN AWAY. Judging by recent reviews they arent any better now than when we got ours.

Worst pumps and service ever
I’ve called a couple of times as the water seems luke warm intermittently, it’s a big unit and only 3 in the house and we don’t shower for more than 5 mins, so I call the company and the first time it was 5 yrs old out of warranty nothing we can do about it, now again I call and they want to charge me for someone to have a look at it, a HWS should last longer than 5 years, I had the same HWS at my previous house and stuffed up after 3 yrs and they just wipe their hands of you, don’t ever buy a rheem unless you don’t need hot water

Sadly, the reviews are right. This product is awful
Where to start. Didn't even get 2 year of use out of this unit. Was installed at new home and sat idle for a year before settlement. Once we moved in, the TX valve went 12 months in and was fixed by the builder. 8 month later the compressor goes which costs over $1,000 to supply and install. 2 plumbers recommended replacing this with a better brand heat pump, one that is reliable. Gladly, this unit sits in a skip. While it was working, it was noisy, much louder than the new one.
Avoid this at all costs.

Total lemon. Rheem fail in their duty to care for their valued customers
Very expensive unit to buy and run (blatantly lied to about cost effectiveness versus solar) . Have spent at least $1000.00 in repairs and now it's stuffed up again. Honestly Rheem you should offer to replace this lemon. I do not have the money to fix it again! I am truly destitute and desperate.

Hi Colin, I am not an expert on Rheem. Based on my experience, firstly ring Rheem service (sorry, don't have their number). My experience is that they are not very competent, but they may be able to help you. Secondly, send an email to [email protected] officially requesting advice. Also, from my experience, their service personnel are quite competent and know a lot more about their hot water systems than the installation people from a hot water company. I got the impression that Rheem are concerned about their reputation and the right (senior?) peopler keen to help. Stand your ground and don't give in too quickly. Hope this helps.

Sorry Will can't help! The advice I received was that my rusted tank wasn't worth replacing as the heat pump had passed its 5 year warranty and was likely to break down.
