Like to let all know that Rheem finally found a minute fault in the burner and replaced it gratis. It has been going faultlessly since. I can heartily recommend this firm to anyone

Pilot flame going out intermittently

I'm writing this review to express my demand for a properly working gas water heater unit "Rheem Stellar - Gas Domestic Outdoor Water Heater 850 series 360 models".

I've purchased this unit on 24 October 2014. After 5 months of usage, the pilot frame can no longer remain on permanently; as a result, the main burner was unable to be re-ignited to provide hot water to my home. Subsequently, I would have to relight the pilot flame.



From March 2015 to April 2016, six technician have tried to assist me to resolve this issue without success. Based on this situation, I would really like to ask for a complete replacement unit from Rheem.

Pilot Light keeps going out

After approximately 12 months of no problems, suddenly the pilot light keeps going out ! it was once a month and now it has stepped up to once a week but reading the other reviews I fear I may be in for once a day !
I have contacted rheem and will see what happens.

Pilot light keeps going out

The pilot light keeps going out about once a week all over the past few months, I like the quick return of hot water when it works but its kinda getting frustrating to re light it all of the time, we have had no troubles previous and had it for just on a year.

Had a problem with my Rheem Stellar Gas hot water system, no hot water!!!
Called Rheem and arranged for a plumber to come out. Wayne diagnosed the problem and
fixed it within 30 minutes, there was nothing wrong with the Rheem Stellar Unit. There was
dirt in the hot water inlet valve which the builder installed Easystart, just cost us $143.00 which
we will try to claim back as it is there fault. Wayne was so professional and I would recommend
him to anyone with a plumbing problem, thanks Wayne. Also Rheem were good enough to replace
any part in the unit for free if it was a part problem, which is wasn't. I'm off to have a lovely HOT
shower!!!!!

I have just replaced my Stella 330 with another of the same model, the last one lasted 10 years and would probably lasted longer if the previous house owner had bothered to replace the sacrificial anode (which is under the grey plastic at the top in case you are wondering).
I get mains hot water pressure even with the tempering valve thing, and I never have to worry about having cold showers when we have guest (we are a family of 2.5). I think I would have gone for the 360 if I had any adult children though.

One of the worst brands on the market

Moved into my new house a year ago and had one of these systems installed (brand new). Had nothing but constant problems with it. Pilot light goes out at least once a week (showers are now like a game of russian roulette), the piezo ignition switch broke after only a month, and now pilot won't stay lit at all.

I miss my old Rinnai. Never had to light anything ever on it. Just turned on the tap and out came hot water. Something that I very rarely get with my brand new Rheem!!
If you are looking for a hot water system DO NOT buy a Rheem! They do NOT come on "Steady, hot and strong! I will be cutting my losses and replacing it instead of stuffing around any further with it. Can't wait! Grrr

No problems at all

When our old Rinnai packed it in we had to make a quick choice on a replacement. Some of the reviews on here made it a difficult choice, but I went with the Rheem as I've had them previously and they have always been good. That was about 6 months ago, and I am so glad we went with the Rheem. It reheats really quickly, so no one misses out on a hot shower in the mornings - that use to be a real issue with the old Rinnai. The only down side I could possibly say is increased water usage due to water staying hotter for longer!

After a call to the Rheem service helpdesk and a chat with a technician, my fault was confirmed. I followed this up via email and, after a bit of backwards and forwards correspondence (still better than postal), a great result was achieved. Thankyou Rheem and Khushboo for your superb service.

Pilot light keeps going out...follow the instructions with a lot of hit and miss. Gas in the kitchen works ok. This is now the 5th time I have had to call someone to get it fixed. And Rheem want $143 callout plus costs per 15 minutes of labour.....same cost of a specialist appointment! I can fix this by going elsewhere...............thanks for making this an easy decision.
25 years of having a hot water tank and I have had more issues with this one altogether.

Wrote to Rheem Service and as usual received no response? My unit was installed 5 years ago, I had a Vulcan that last 14 years without any issues at all! Basically if you have one of these systems and yours develops "kettling" watch out - basically its the sound made as water heats & bubbles up through the scale\sediment in your tank. The noise becomes a nuisance. it sounds like someone is trying to kick their way out of it! Design fault - no outlet exists to clean\flush out deposits.
I had to pay my plumbers $350 to have this explained to me & basically told I would have to live with it due to the hard water in Perth! He descaled the tank replaced the anodes and valve and she Bangs, Bangs.

Puff the Magic dragon with hob nail boots

My Stellar is making noises like a man inside waring hob nail boots trying to kick his way out, along with this the steam emanating could fill a steam room, I spoke to the Rheem company and put me onto the local service company, he told me that sediment caused the noise and as it cant be removed I am stuck with Puff the Magic dragon, don't buy one. get an instantaneous they are brilliant, and if you are building get one installed each side of the house, save water waiting for the hot to arrive and have 2 showers at the same time without robbing hot water from each other.

Can't get pilot light to light up

Just took over brand new house...went away for1 month, so, set to Pilot. Came back...light went off, tried following instructions to a tee, even counting 30 sec while depressing pilot bef igniting but to no avail. Tried more than 10 times. Gas supply OK as I can use stove. Sat night no hot water, today Sun no hot water again. It's brand new...not sure what to do next.

Very Good Heater

We purchased a new HWS on 16/10/14 to replace our existing Vulcan which had lasted 25 years since new without missing a beat and never had any form of maintenance. The Rheem Stellar had a problem with going out and having to be re-ignited in the cold dark Canberra night. Eventually, we got the Rheem service man to fix it under warranty and all has been well since about one month ago. The pilot light mechanism was full of rubbish and the gas flow mechanism was not working properly but with a new free gas flow part she works like a beauty. The service people were excellent.

Flame thrower - not water heater

I installed at Rheem Stellar outdoor water heater in January 2015. It's broken down twice since. Today, Saturday of a long weekend, the unit was emitting flames causing nearby plants to ignite. If we had been away for the long weekend we could have lost the house. Rheem, for all the follow up service they claim to provide, are unable to get anybody to look at the unit until Tuesday. So much for service. Install one at your own risk!

Not as good as it used to be

Had a Rheem for 18 years without missing a beat, so decided to go with Rheem again. I should have check this review before committing. The pilot light keeps going out after 5 months of use. They replaced the themocouple under warranty and 3 months it happened again. Looks like they are replacing a faulty unit with another faulty unit and assumed they fixed the problem. If it's not under warranty, they charge $148 per half hour and $27 per 15 mins. This is daylight robberry! Even a doctor surgent doesn't charge that much! Sooner or later, people will find out about this company sneaky way of doing business.

We have a Rheem stellar 160l gas water heater
Model 850360N0 manfactured Feb 2018 Heard loud noise from water heater the relief valve dumped a reasonable amout of water Is this normal. This happened 4 hours ago it appears to be operating ok now
