Please help! Rinnai Hotflo drips after every time I use the hot water.
I've had my Rinnai Hotflo electric hot water system for a few months now and every time I use the hot water system drips for 30-90 mins afterwards. It drips fast and it is hot water dripping. It seems there is a lot of water getting lost and a waste of electricity with the hot water dripping out. The valve has been replaced once and it hasn't made any difference. The system is inside my apartment and it is irritating to have the dripping tap sound all time time also. I never had this problem with my old electric hot water system (until it b...Read more
roke but that was after 13 years!). Can something be done about this? The plumber that installed it has gone AWOL and I can't contact him. I don't want to be stuck with this dripping hot water system for years to come! '

Rinnai Hotflo
This hot water service has given us nothing but trouble since it was installed 18 months ago. Hot water in this house is something of a memory only. It is useless & the amount of water we've wasted, waiting for hot water to come through, is ridiculous. Do not buy

This is Rubbish with a capital R
I will start by saying that we have 4 Rinnai constant flow gas HWS, 3 of which are excellent; the HOTFLO 10 however is Crap! Rubbish! It has NEVER worked! We got it only because we are in an area with constant power outages and it is battery ignited, that was the idea anyway. It should be called the Luke Warm Flo 1 or the Cold Flo 0.5 because it simply doesn't work! We have had the Plumber back 4 times and Rinnai out twice. It is serving only one outlet, the kitchen sink / Dishwasher and I cannot recall the last time I got even warm water from ...Read more
it after 10, 15 or 20 minutes. It will be replaced as soon as I have installed a Standby Generator to eliminate the need for battery ignition. And it will be painted Yellow and put on a pole out on the main road with a LEMON sign. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE PIECES OF APPALLING RUBBISH - THEY DO NOT WORK AND RINNAI DON'T WANT TO KNOW - YOU WILL REGRET IT! David Jones 04381068681 comment

Buy your enemy one...terrible and Rinnai service irresponsible
Bought a new hot water service, fitted into an apartment wardrobe, nothing unusual in that being a requirement. It started spitting the hot water when taps were turned on. Quite volatile, lucky we don't have small children. Plumber came back and then referred problem to Rinnai. Rinnai plumber turns up, luckily my daughter was home but unfortunately I was not. They have had a problem with the anodes 'breaking down'. Rather then take the hot water service out they want to drill holes through the wardrobe shelf and top as that will be faster fix. ...Read more
Unfortunately my husband agrees (grrr) over the phone. So I contact them about what compensation I get to have my shelves repaired as my wardrobe is no longer dust proof. Rinnai say none, my husband approved the damage and we have to have access for repair. Really annoyed that hubby gave them the easy and cheap fix and they don't even offer us $50 toward repairs. This was a brand new hot water service that we put up with for weeks of spitting hot water at us. Very annoyed at Rinnai. Very regretful purchase. Avoid Rinnai products!!2 comments

Hadn't even produced Hot water and Rinnai technician charges $177 and still no hot water!
We have just experienced the worst customer service ever with our brand new Rinnai Hotflow 250l water heater. Our old heater broke so we got in our plumber to install a new one. He wanted to put in a Rheem but we thought Rinnai would be better quality so we asked him to get Rinnai. After installation the outlet valve didn't work so he said he'd come back the next day and replace it. Instead we got a call from Rinnai and the customer service man told me we would be charged for a call out fee if not under warranty. I agreed thinking a heater just...Read more
out of the box that wasn't even turned on would be under warranty regardless of the problem. Later that day I get a call from my husband who was at home saying the Rinnai man had said the plumber had installed it incorrectly so we were up for a $177 call out fee which we had to pay on the spot. So the Rinnai tech took our money and left without doing anything and the heater is still down in the garage not even turned on. This is the biggest rip off i have ever seen. How can Rinnai justify charging and then leaving a customer with a useless water tank? To me if the tank was not in 100% working order when taken out of the box and installed by a qualified licenced plumber then it is FAULTY and should be REPLACED free of charge by the manufacturer. We have spent close to $1,000 to buy this heater that for whatever reason does not work. Our family has been left without hot water for THREE days during mid winter. We have been left with a faulty product and forced to pay for a Rinnai tech to come out who did nothing. After this I will never ever buy Rinnai again and will tell everyone I know about the rip off we have been exposed to. To add insult to injury when the technician demands payment for his services, if you don't have $200 cash in your pocket to pay him, you are charged a surcharge to pay him by credit card.1 comment

Hi - I have a Rinnai HOTFLO electric water heater purchased via Origin about a year ago, model HFE160 (160 litres). It works fine but the thermostat setting is too low by a few degrees, the water is warm and not hot, something I'd like to correct now that it's winter. It takes about 5 minutes for warm water to come out of the kitchen tap when is should be hot, the shower water is warm but was not a problem in the summer. The only question I have is how can I as a user increase the temperature setting without having to arrange a serviceman to come do it at a cost. I live in Oxley Brisbane 4075. Thanks. Peter

Thanks for the question None. There are unprotected electrical connections and no user accessible components so a suitably qualified person is required to make the adjustments.

Thanks for the question Mel, have you had a Rinnai technician inspect the the unit? The most common cause of a unit cutting out is a lack of gas to run the unit. We would like to investigate this for you, can you please send an email to enquiry @ rinnai.com.au (removing the spaces) mentioning Product Review and we will have someone contact you to discuss.
We also had nothing but trouble. If it is under 12 months old I suggest contacting place of purchase as it should be under warranty and/or contact email given above. We had our Rinnai replaced with a Thermann and have had no troubles since. Good luck hope you can get it sorted soon I know how horrible it is to have no hot water, especially as it approaches winter.
Sorry dont know about that model.
With mine -
Battery - The Rinnai idiots designed it with one "D" size battery - not enough - should be designed with 2 so more reliable like my chinese "camping" HWS - finally found a battery good enough and it lights everytime.
Gas - make sure the regulator fitted to the HWS is not too resrictive - If there is an adjustment on the regulator like mine then open it up and try it.
Flow - make sure the flow is consistently over 4 litres a minute - get a bucket (10 litres) and see how much of it gets filled in a minute.
If flow is to slow - remove flow restrictors on shower heads and taps (plastic fittings on the end of taps - for shower heads usually where the shower head connects to the wall).
I considered buying a non-instant model - as there is no delay with heating the water.
