Worked great for 3 years then it leaked.

published

This air conditioner saved me from hot nights. Has been great but last week started leaking. No where does it say you need to drain it because it’s self evaporative. I woke to totally saturated carpet in the bedroom. Had to buy a stand to put it on and buckets below. Now it seems after a few days it doesn’t leak as much in the bucket.
Also the service dept I called were quite hopeless.

Purchased in January 2021 at The Good Guys for A$690.00.

Replacement window kit hard to find

published

I purchased the Rinnai RPC35WA in October 2016 at the Good Guys and couldn’t be without it. It is absolutely perfect for my bedroom and I never had any problems with it. But after over 3 years the inevitable happened, the hose needs to be replaced but I have a very hard time getting one. As I have a heart condition It is really important that I get a replacement straight away.
Please let me know where I can purchase one.

As per review says

Before I bought this unit, I read the review here. Majority of the review is good. Indeed it is as good as it says. Unfortunately it is not reverse cycle and the cable length is slightly shorter that what you would expect. It cools reasonably well. I have yet to test it on a very hot summer. So far its performing well. It is only slightly louder than a pedestal fan when the compressor is not running, but when compressor is running, its abit louder than you might expect, which is normal.

Edit:
- Customer service is very helpful and I am very satisfied with the product.
- At full blast, its actually quite loud.

Good cooling. Economical. Noisy.

published

We've owned this model for a couple of weeks and are fairly happy with it. We have solar power, so can measure how much power we are using each day and this Rinnai model is notably cheaper to run than our other portable air conditioner, which is a different brand. It cools one to two rooms well and works particularly well on the dehumidifier option. However, it is notably noisier than our other model when the compressor comes on. There is also no way to easily have the cold air blow directly on you, as for some curious reason, the airflow comes out of the top of the unit. Still, it cools well, so we will learn to live with these problems. Just don't buy this model if you want the quietest compressor. There are quieter units out there.

Just Average.

Neat design, a little bit noisy when everything gose quiet and sleep. Every half to one hour we have to clean the water out otherwise the air con stop generating cooling air. The water must be pumped out at the very bottom of the machine so we have to stack the machine up to be able to let water fully flow out.

Overall, I'd say average.

Perfect for apartment living

published

It’s design is good, but the most important things to me when looking for an air conditioner: ability to cool, noise levels.
If you have a bedroom you want to cool down, this is the machine for you. Make sure you know the space you need to cool before deciding on which machine you need. This machine allows you to sleep well through those hot summer nights, however you may need ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Additionally the unit slides quite easily around rooms and did an admirable job cooling down our open space living room & kitchen within our apartment. I’d recommend this machine!

Purchased in January 2021 at The Good Guys for A$530.00.

Expensive Spare parts

published

Dont even think of buying this unit, I have similar experience as others buying spare parts. Its very stressful and currently Reccee Plumbing are re-seller for spare parts and I have been quoted 210$ Windows Slide kit. I am now with useless unit and will to search if I can source other company's air conditioner spare parts that can be used.

Works well in smaller rooms

published

We had this set up in our bedroom over the summer. It did an admirable job of cooling that space but was a little too loud to sleep with it running. On the hottest days we tried moving it to the lounge room but that was too much for it and it didnt get on top of the heat. It was good if you were sitting right in front of it though - like a personal cooler. It comes with widow hoses, so it needs to be pretty close to a window for the hot air to go out. I am giving this a medium high score. It works well in small spaces but has definite limitations.

Thanks for the review Dr1ftwood, the portable range is most suited to smaller living areas so can struggle with larger areas.

Good Cooling Bit Noisy

published

What a relief to have some cooling in our bedroom. This machine has certainly earned its keep this summer and made unbearable hot weather just fine. I really like its portability. We can just roll it into the room where it's needed, attach the hose and turn it on. The only negative factor is the fan noise when trying to sleep. Its enough to get on my nerves but it's definitely worth it for the cooling. We will pack it away soon and bring it out next season.

Hmm..

So far its been good having this in our home, it is a little noisy when the cooling option is on. I'm hoping on its not going to putting our bill up to high or I'm not going to be very impress. As portable air-conditioning has no electrical ratings at all. Wish they did so I knew how much it was going to cost me, if its too high I will probably have to sell it and try a different air-conditioning unit. Don't need a high bill when you're on a low income and have children to think of. So fingers crossed it won't come to that.

RPC35WA / RPC41WA what’s the difference? Is the 4.1 noisier because it’s got a bigger motor? Or do they both make the same amount of noise? I bought the 4.1 For my bedroom but if the 3.5 is not as noisy I think I would have preferred that.

Not sure. Probably the same. I got used to it after a while since I had it in my bedroom for more than a month. You can wear headphones while listening to music or wear ear plugs. I don't wear ear plugs because I fall asleep after a long day at work

Hi Sheba,

Thanks for the question. The RPC35WA / RPC41WA have the same decibel rating of 52DBA on fan and full cooling operation. If you require any further assistance please contact our technical help desk on 1300 555 545.

Hi, I have had my portable airconditioner for approximately 8 months now. I use it all night every night and some of the day. I have not had to empty the unit at all yet. While it is on I can now hear water swishing around in the unit, it sounds like a washing machine. I tried to empty some water out of the unit but none came out. Is this normal?

Hi Chanelle H,

Thanks for the question, the amount of liquid build up in your unit directly relates to the level of humidity. Prior to Summer, if the humidity has been moderate, the build up of liquid will have been minimal. The RPC range of portable air conditioners are designed to remove any condensation from the air by pumping it into the hot outlet pipe. On days of high humidity there can be a build up of liquid collected which will accumulate, however the liquid needs to build up to a certain point before draining is required. Operating the cooler on DRY (de-humidifying) mode on days of high humidity may reduce the production of condensate. Should you wish to discuss this further please contact our Technical Department on 1300 555 545 (option 3).

Thanks,
Rinnai Australia

Hi Rinnai team:
I am hoping you can advise. I bought the 3.5 kwh portable aircon from The Good Guys the other day. I had mentioned to the salesperson that my windows are the awning type with the top portion opening only and asked whether this air con would work. He said it would. I have today installed the machine and there is no way to install the ventilation pipe with my awning window. I don't want to return the air con as I quite like it and I think if I can make the ventilation part to work it will be quite good for my small bedroom.

Can you please advise if any customisation is possible to suit awning windows?

Thanks,
Sharmin

Probably the most awkward part is the window kit and I did not give any great detail as how I manage to "fit" the window kit to my sliding window that slides sideways from left to right to open. Another awkward situation is when the machine is on the floor and the window is a few meters above. Solution: use chrome shelving you can get do it yourself easy by buying the shelf and poles from Kmart. It's just a matter of getting someone to help you to lift the machine and place on the shelf so that the plastic pipe is kept at a short distance to get rid of the heat quickly. See Youtube from Kmart. Also Youtube video showing someone using a plastic frame for his window kit.
