Great little unit
I have had my unit for approximately 1 year, the Unit is now starting to let of an awful smell when in use. Is there any reason for this? I clean the filters regularly.

Rate: 68% OK. Nightmare window adapter. Could be 84%+
Price: 4/5
Features: 4/5
Performance: 4.5/5
Design (main unit): 4/5
Design (peripherals): 1/5 (barely 1)
Bottom line: (17/25) 68% - OK. I would recommend this product so long as you know what you’re getting yourself into with the window adapter (you enjoy assembling ikea flat-packs, self-torture and possible occasional electrocution), then this is the unit for you. Performance is better than I expected for its size and the space it is conditioning. Noise is there, but it doesn’t bother me your assessment will undoubtedly vary.

This is Cool!!!
I bought the big one by reading reviews here and I'm happy with my choice, it's very good and cool the living room very well. I think the noise is fair as everything of a normal AC is in one place so it makes noise :D

An absolute godsend in hot and humid weather
In my small 4 x 5 bedroom it cools and dehumidifies very quickly to take it down from 37 degrees, to a more manageable 27 and the added benefit of the sleep setting, means no bright display when trying to sleep at night

Excellent cooling and great value for money. Portable and great for rentals/extra rooms.
Bought this last Summer after moving into a new place without air conditioning and not being able to sleep in the heat. Just brought it out again and remembered how much of a godsend it is on high 30 degree days. It brings down the temperature to a more manageable low-mid twenty degrees in less than half an hour. Used in a 5 x 6M room. You get used to the noise, which is a bit more than a ducted or split system. But as a solution for renters or someone who doesn't have the money for an electrician to install built-in systems, this is a winner. ...Read more
I've previously bought an ALDI version which I gave up on after a week, totally useless. I also got another one for around the $400 mark which also struggled to bring down the temperature. Spend a bit more on a Rinnai 4.1kw and you won't regret it. It genuinely cools your place like a split-system.Purchased in November 2021 at Appliances Direct Online for A$720.00.

Window mount literally melted
The window mount for the exhaust pipe literally melted from the heat after only 1 or 2 weeks of use approx 3 hours a day.
Can't find replacement, as others have said unless I pay an exorbitant price. Now it's basically useless. Pretty unreal that a simple spare part is so hard to acquire.
Purchased at The Good Guys.

Good portable Air Con

Average portable air con...
Knowing portable air con are the last resort....we bought Rinnai RPC41WA.
PROS:
nice looking air con, i mean design.
Cons:
- Expensive . I paid around $750 @ good guys.
- Power lead is way too short.
-Window kit is flimsy, windows can hardly hold it. No screws provided.
- Most annoying is the manual which got nothing.
-May cool down the bed room, avoid using in the lounge...takes ages

Great unit, shame about spare parts
We have this unit to cool our bedroom and it does work very well. However, during a move the window slide kit was lost and attempts to buy a replacement have been extremely stressful. I spoke to the Good Guys who directed us to Rinnai Spare parts, who in turn told me they don't sell them directly to customers and to go via their partner Harvey Norman and when we did they said the kit was $120!!! for a piece of plastic!!! Outraged at the rip off cost for a simple kit. I am not going to pay this and so the unit itself is now useless - Rinnai, you need to get your spare parts arrangements sorted as this is unacceptable!

Love it, its a monster cooler
We purchased this product from the Good Guys. It has served us extremely well this summer. It cools the room in about 20 minutes. We placed it in our bedroom. Please dont expect the same, when the room is not closed or if it is the sitting room. The assembly provided had a covering for the window, i installed it and it didnt cover the whole gap, but it still cooled the room real quick, It is ofcourse noisy, but it does the job. I never put an outlet yet for the water, but it still works fine. Very satisfied with this air con.

This portable A/C easily cools my big bedroom within minutes during the 40 degree days
This is premium quality air conditioner which does the job of cooling down a large room very easily during those sticky hot Melbourne days/nights. Has a convenient timer to setup for how long to run the A/C. Very easy to setup and has included window installation kit for sliding door windows. Would highly recommend over other expensive brands.

Exceptional cooling ability but also very noisy
Had this unit for almost 2 years now. It has awesome design. Very good to look at. The remote adds lots of extra features and functions like eco run and night mode. My bedroom have only french window so I couldn't use the window mount. I extended the plastic exhaust hose with steel hose of the same diameter and mounted it to manhole cover in my ceiling. It works a treat. I find it quite noisy especially at night when the surrounding noise is low. Also the the self-evaporating feature is worth to mention as there is no need to empty any canisters of condensed water.

Cooling superb but noisy in bedroom
I bought this unit as it was rated the best, it’s performance I cannot underrate as it cools fantastic. Setting it up was a breeze, though it works more efficiently if you wrap the exhaust hose to contain the heat ( I used polyester wrap from the local sewing shop). The unit is in a unit bedroom of middle size & I was expecting it to be a little loud but to be honest it is quite loud. I turn it on for a while to cool the room then just use a fan. If the unit was in a larger bedroom it would be fine I think, so in a house possibly ok. Though on ...Read more
the few over 30 degrees nights we had I was glad I left it running as no way you could sleep otherwise. The only other thing you will need is a large plastic storage container for the water outlet if you don’t put the outlet down a drain. I got the 52 litre one from Big W, which means to can run it all night without the worry of water overflow. The unit also has swing louvres to circulate the air. I did try it on dehumidify to see if the noise lessened & no change. All in all it does a great job cooling, if you can sleep with loud noise then go for it. For the bargain of being portable the rest is of no consequence as most rented places don’t have air conditioning, this solves that problem. The unit looks great as well, much more stylish than some others & easy to move on the castors on a carpet floor.1 comment

Thanks for the review RGB, it is true that portable air conditioners tend to be louder than split systems as the condenser is part of the unit in the room. We are glad to hear the unit is keeping temperatures down for you.

Good for small rooms but noisy
We bought Rinnai as we trust the brand.
Our lounge area is 60m2.... the unit works best at 25m2. That said it does surprisingly well at maintaining an already cooler temperature (rather than lowering the temperature) in the lounge.
The unit is noisy, even on its lower fan settings.... but that’s the compromise with an all in one unit.
Portable? It has wheels.... but with the hose etc it can be quite cumbersome

Thanks for the review Beardy Bonce, you are correct, the unit is designed for areas less than 25m2 but we are pleased to hear the unit is managing to maintain the temperature in the larger room.

Perfect for a portable kitchen/food van
Instantly cools, this was something I was not expecting, as I thought it may take a while. The best thing about the Rinnai
RPC41WA is that it is perfect for portable kitchens and food vans. If you have ever worked in one of those you will know how badly they are needed.

Good Looking Air Cond does what it should
This is only one of a few Portable Air Conds on the market that is actually good looking and nicely designed. 95% of others are just plain ugly. So well done to Rinnai for designing something nice.
I bought the 4.1Kw and it is very powerful for my small room only 26sqm. It has more than enough power on a 32 C deg day. And it is easily much better than my old 2.3Kw that always struggled to keep my room even bareable.
Im keen to see what it will be like on a 40 deg day. I think it will be fine though.

range things like the remote control only works when your pointing it directly at the control panel standing right next to it ! and you can only control the swing / Timer / Sleep function on the remote control and not on the air cond itself which is odd. Cond. If you really want good cooling on a 40 deg + day you will need to install a wall mounted Air cond with compressor outside the house as they are much more efficient at cooling a space. A Portable Air Cond keeps removing the cool air it has created through its exhaust outside so its not a very efficient cycle. Where as a wall mount air cond only pushes out cool air but doesnt try to remove it at the same time. However for this Rinnai and (all other portable air conds) It is fine for temps up to 30 Deg but after 33 - 34 - 35 etc it does start to struggle and not become as efficient.Similar opinion? It made big difference
I got this particular unit because the brand and model I wanted was not available. I was not disappointed
Quite the opposite. It's been a wonderful performer as an air conditioner
It was very easy to assemble, to move around on its rollers and it came with useful exhaust duct accessories
It has a very simple to use remote control that mimics one-for-one the buttons on the unit
It cools very effectively and its thermostat is very sensitive, which means it goes from cooling to fan mode readily once it detects that the room temperature is as shown on the preset temperature

I've been looking at portable units for the last couple of months and with the heatwave looming I needed to act. So after considering what was around at current prices this unit for $699 was on the top of my list and I got the last one yesterday.

Questions & Answers
Chanelle H.asked
Hi there,
I purchased my portable air con a little over a month ago. in this time it has not alerted me that the water needs to be emptied even though I use it on a nightly basis. I tried to empty it but it didn't contain any water. It also constantly switches from cool to air.
1 answer
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Thanks for the question Chanelle, it is not unusual for the air-conditioning unit to not require emptying as it depends on the weather conditions. In more humid areas where the unit is drawing more moisture it will require emptying but the unit will display when this is required.
We do recommend emptying at the end of season or for periods when the unit will not be used.

I bought the RPC41WA a few weeks ago and got it delivered last Thursday. On the first night of use (Friday) I had the condensate drain hose on and woke to have a saturated carpet. On the second night I had a 80L bin which the unit filled it up almost to the top.
I then plugged up the Drain Outlet (7) and no problem. Is the correct way to use is by plugging up the Drain Outlet or by connecting the Condensate drain hose? Thanks in advance.
