Nothing but trouble poor service
Built my house 6 years ago blew the side fitting off the solar hot water panel, the following year it did it once again was a long time before they could come out checked the panel, this time a retro fit part needed to be ordered which took ages to arrive. After fitting turned back on and cracked the panel, so needed to order a new one. Got the new one in once again took over a month to arrive, they slid the old one down the face of my colourbond gutters scratching both my garage and second story gutters.
Today I see something sticking up in th...Read more
e air behind my solar panel. Called renni who was not helpful at all as it was answered by an answering service rather than a renni representative. After the job was booked in and the temperature sensor siliconed into the panel as it should have been in the first place i was told some more bad news. Now my solar pump and circuit board needed to be replaced. I contacted renni technical support and they advised me that if the wire at the bottom of the tank was not silliconed in that it would cause the pump to run constantly because it was measuring ambiant temperature as well. After speaking to renni first care and explaining the disappointment and reliability issues that this unit has, they advised me that the parts only have a 1 year warranty and even though i had such a bad experience they were still not willing to change these parts under warranty. I was also told to contact the trade that came out to give me a quote and book it in to have it replaced. What a joke from a company that has in its recordings "relax you are with rinni".

Nothing but trouble
House was built 2014 with a Rinnai solar hot water system, Easter 2017 the release Frost valve blew on solar panel, water was gushing out running down drain pipes, we didn't hear it on that side of the house until a neighbour called our attention to it, we called Rinnai Ph.no. only an answer service stating "they were closed for the Festive season and leave a message" . We called out local plumber and he showed us how to turn off the hot system so we could flush the toilets. Rinnai fixed problem under warranty. next problem was about July 2018 ...Read more
when the Frost valve blew again this time also blowing the solar panel, this was replaced under warranty. Now! MON 18 Feb 2022 warm sunny weather Frost valve blew again, running all night, again alerted by neighbour, called Rinnai who sent plumber out he taped it off as informed by Rinnai because they were having so much problems with it. Plumber told us pressure pump wasn't working warranty outdated, paid $145.38. following FRI 23 Feb, hot water gushing out of boiler, plumbers out again, release valve wasn't working, out off warranty, $228. You can buy this valve for $52 less for trade, working on job was abt 30mins. Next day SAT 24th About 6pm NO HOT WATER just cold, just cold. Now have to go to sons house for showers, we are 75yrs, not able for this pressure or expense. We have got nowhere talking to Rinnai, I would NOT recommend putting in this system to anyone, it is unreliable, after service is not good. We kept getting told "These are all separate issues" that might be but it's all about the same Solar Hot Water System. It will be interesting to see what they say on Monday when we ring. Will post outcome.

Nightmare
Bought our place 2 yrs ago. Is now 5 yrs old. A month after purchase we heard water gushing but no idea where from. Never had solar before. Contacted previous owner who was also builder, who got the frost valve replaced (we were out when plumber came) Today the people behind us came around to say water was leaking from the panel again. Try getting a plumber out at Easter to fix it. Water down the drain all for another frost valve. Yes we are near Melbourne but really. I am sure it is out of warranty now but how often does the same item need to be fixed.

Find out how Rinnai Solar Gas Boosters compares to other Solar Water Heaters
Know better, choose better.
Just seeking assistance for now.
We had Rinnai solar 20 installed in the new home with sun master system. The trouble is if one is having a shower and someone opens another hot water tap or an outlet in side the house, the one in the shower gets cold water.
I spoke to Rinnai and was told it should not happen and to get the plumber call them. The Plumber came roamed around the house opening and shutting taps and spoke to Rinnai and left. The result is the same. No change. I have used Rinnai hot water units in Japan and they were world class. In my old house we had another bran...Read more

Before anyone purchase Rinnai Products do a thorough research. I personally do not promote them. My experience of the product is so bitter, it has made our lives really miserable and frustrating.

Never worked. Didn't honour warranty
I have a S26 Solar infinity system installed new by a builder in a new home in Melbourne in 2010. It never worked - water in gas line by a non-qualified plumber destroyed the unit. Rinnai did answer emergency line and sent a plumber out 18 hours after I called (Late Friday afternoon) - he didn't even want to come and tried to get me to wait until Monday! I had to pay almost $800 for this emergency warranty service.
Rinnai "repaired" the gas boost has never worked right since - and they billed me to "repair" it. If it is windy, damp, cold, or h...Read more

too cold
I have a split solar water system with a gas booster. It says Rinnai 20 on the outside, whatever that means. It takes forever to get hot water out and when it comes out it's luke warm. It's never warm enough to do the dishes. Forutunately one of the bathrooms is 1 meter from the tank so water that goes there is hot enough to shower in.
cold and expensive

Rinnai Solar 20 is terrible
We have Rinnai Solar 20 and hot water doesn't come out of the kitchen tap for ages...i use a container to collect the cold water until hot water comes out and i use that water for the garden. Just like Nomad40 says...the hot water isn't hot...
i also can leave my hand under the running hot water and it isn't hot enough to wash my dishes...i have to boil litres of water in the saucepan/kettle to do the dishes and the makes it an inefficient system...
we are the second people in our home and we don't have the warranty only the Rinnai handbook...we can't afford a plumber to come out...help??
Hot water takes a very long time to come through to the kitchen and the water isn't hot...have to boil water in saucepans/kettle

Terrible
Edwards roof mounted tank with electric boost is far better. Rinnai not worth the money. For the kitchen and laundry you need to have hot water when required.
Nothing. The builder put it in and kept the rebate
Wastes a lot of water getting the warm water. Being regulated heat in the shower the hot water shuts off for a few seconds while showering. When there is no sun the hot water is not hot. I can put my hands in it. Real hot on a hot day.

If it does what you said, then it's not installed properly. Go back to your builder.

Hi I have a double storey house built new 5 years ago. I had a Rinnai 26 Solar installed from new by the builder. Unit working fine until last week, I have noticed a significant time lag for hot water to flow to the showers in the upstairs toilet. Cold water flows instantaneously, just hot water has a lag of 15-20 seconds. I have checked the water mains and hot water mains are all fully opened and the water inlet filter has been cleaned. The house is only 5 yrs old, has PVC water tubing so unlikely to be blocked at such an early stage. Is there anything else that could be causing the problem and how do I fix it?

Hello, we have the Rinnai solar 26 for the past 5 years and working very well for us. Recently, we are smelling very strong gas smell from as far as 4 - 5 meter from the unit. I understand that during usage of hot water, there will some un-burt gas which is normal but currently the gas smell is all the time.
I have checked all the external connections and did not detect any leakage, could it be some internal valves or seal failure? Can you provide some advice? Regards Eric
