as an older person looking to up date my old Rover 26" cut, I bought one of these, only to find there is NO speed control, ie accelerator, especially for the self propelled aspect of the mower. How do I slow it down? I have to walk very fast and cannot keep up. This was NOT explained to me when purchasing.

The older model pro 560 has an accelerator on the handle to govern engine revs and in turn speed. As I understand Rover mowers were bought out by mtd America and the new pro 560 is of a different design and motor where engine revs and acceleration are preset. My suggestion would be to contact the dealer where you bought your mower and have them reset the revs at a point that is satisfactory for you.

I bought the mower at Masters, they had no idea how or what to do. They sent me to their preferred repairer who also suggested your answer, even though it is a compromise especially for wet grass. I have heard on the grapevine that a new model with speed control is in the pipeline. Masters to their credit refunded my purchase, even after I had used it.

Thanks for your positive comment re Masters refunds... I'm considering a Yard Force self propelled mower they have on sale this week.
May try it now, with more confidence.
Its a Chinese copy but at $269 a real bargain!!!!!
Here's hoping it does the trick!
