This toaster failed after 6 months of light use.
Don't buy it if you want something to last, or you want something reliable. Would not recommend this to anyone who wants a good toaster.
This review needs to be fifty words for some reason, so I've typed this pointless sentence.

Purchased a Russell Hobbs Classic 2 slice toaster in January 2017 and it only lasted until May 2018. Went to use it one morning and the lever would not stay down. Next thing I realised was that it shorted out power to a section of the house. Although still under warranty to make a claim you had to send the toaster back to them and they would either repair or replace it. As we had visitors arriving that week we could not afford to be without a toaster so I went a purchased a new one. Interestingly, if you try to register a warranty online thr...
Read moreough the website they give you www.spectrumbrands.com.au/warranty it comes up as an unsafe website. I did a google search on Spectrum Brands and the opening line of their website page is that it for marketing purposes only and follows that warranties do not need to be registered. At $49.95 it was no big loss and you get what you pay for.- Date Purchased

have had many toasters over many years. I paid for quality (did get a discount) and that is what I got with Russell Hobbs. I would heartily recommend it every one. shop around before you buy, there are discounts available. you just have to look. they are worth waiting and looking for.

When our old Russell Hobbs toaster died recently we didnt hesitate to buy another of the same brand. The old one which we had purchased many years ago was reliable and toasted beautifully. The new one looked similar but unfortunately that was about it. We very quickly realsed that the " 50% faster technology" actually meant burnt toast!! An automatic toaster should not mean stand here and keep flicking the toast up just in case. I would definitely not recommend this product - save yourself the heartache and try another brand.

It always burns the toast, it looks good but we made wrong mistake to buy this toaster as it wasted money. We bought this one from JB HiFi, which was on special, probably that was why they wanted to get rid of it. I don't think i would buy this brand toaster any more.

Average. Toasts alright, but you can't get the toast out!
We use this toaster for bread, crumpets and English muffins. You cannot lift the toast high enough to get it out without burning your fingers! Crumpets and muffins have to be tonged out (after safely turning off the toaster) or try flipping it out!
Major design flaw. Always found it toasts alright.

I'd just about given up with toasters and had been toasting using my oven grill which is time consuming and expensive. Had a couple of duds over the last two years, but so far this one is doing was it is supposed to do...cook toast, it's a great little toaster. Cooks both sides. No fuss operation. Nice shiny white and chrome finish.

I am waiting for a replacement, it will be a replacement for a replacement. I was only replaced before Christmas & this NEW ONE HAD GREEN SPARKS flying & DID NOT TOAST PROPERLY. I told Hobbs l wanted a different brand as it came from THE GOOD GUYS....Unfortunately l didn't have my receipt which they told me was the warranty, at first they were not going to replace it until l told them l would contact CHOICE & Consumer Afairs am still waiting for it to arrive. They also reminded me they all come from China so if l changed brands they were all basically RUBBISH.

Can't complain about the bread toasting.
I am using this product on a regular basis and the toaster does it's job really good. The design of the product is really nice and it's got a dial with a light which is really nice. I did some research before buying this product and I don't regret it now its money well spent I would recommend this product to everyone.

I purchased the Russell Hobbs Classic toaster as it was on sale now I know why. It won't toast evenly, it's either burnt to a crisp and that's on a lower setting or it doesn't toast enough and it continually sets off my smoke alarm. I haven't gone through so much burnt bread in my life. I'll be returning my purchase to the store this weekend, as I have had enough of this toaster and will go and buy a cheap one for $20 it will probably do a lot better.

This is my second classic 2 slice toaster both have lasted 13 years. I have just bought another, they look good, toast consistently well and last way longer than most marriages let alone other appliances. I wouldn't purchase any other brand. I love this toaster it is very reliable and excellent quality.

We have had two Russell Hobbs toasters; we have issues where the lever won't stay down. Unfortunately the company doesn't sell or provide any spare parts - so once there is an issue it the toaster is worthless. The toasters can not be repaired. In 2017 this is unacceptable and unsustainable.

Really awful toaster.
One side toasts more than the other so it's better to toast for half the time, pop it, turn the bread over and toast it again. You can't put the second set of bread slices in at a different time to the first because when the left side pops, the rights side will automatically pop too.
Look, I could knit pick all day, but for a toaster to be such a hassle and an annoyance to toast 4 slices of bread is such a massive failure.

Sometimes works, sometimes burns at 1, sometimes doesn't toast at 4. Completely random. I've been using toasters for 50 years and I've never had this problem. How is that that they could make toasters 50 years ago, and now they can't? Russell Hobbs used to be a reliable brand but I shall avoid in future.

Slow and only toasts one side. Won't pop up and cooking light stays on even though it has stopped toasting. We end up with cold toast as we think it's still cooking. Been like this since day 1. Terrible toaster I will never buy this type of toaster again. That's all I want to say.

We bought this toaster in August, average use is two slices per day. Even on 2 or 3 the whole machine is TOO HOT. Our smoke alarm has been set off. There doesn't seem to be any variation in temperature when the dial is moved from 1 to 6! It is always at incinerate!!

Either barely browns the toast or scorches it.
Can't wait to buy another toaster. I've owned $20 kmart toasters better than this one. No bread seems to fit in it properly, so the top of the slice isn't cooked at all. Meanwhile, the part of the bread in the toaster is burnt to a crisp. It burnt one slice so badly on just the second setting it set off my smoke alarm. For the price, you'd be better off getting a sunbeam.

Standard size bread is too big for it so the tops of slice never toast. The outside of the toaster gets VERY hot so keep away from kids. After 3 weeks of use we still can't get it to toast evenly without burning. Don't waste your money. We are going back to Breville.

Have been using the classic 2 slice toaster. Never fails to slowly toast each side evenly. Over time they get grubby so I replace with same model.
Recently had problem locating my favourite model and purchased the 'super fast 'model with the hi temperature elements. NO GOOD.
Burnt the crust or edges and not the centre. Got a refund and pursued the classic model. Found it at Harris Scarf. VERRY HAPPY CUSTOMER
. Thanks Russell Hobbs, This classic 2 slice toaster is fantastic.

What a piece of junk!! We had a stainless steel one of another brand which was great. After a new kitchen we decided to colour code appliances and bought the cream kettle and toaster. BIG mistake!! This is my worst purchase of my entire life and you have to consider that I once bought the Moloko album and a second hand high mileage Mazda 626!!
The toaster burns everything even on the lowest setting. You can't get the bread down and if you succeed, it springs the toast out onto the floor!

This toaster is too deep, and you either burn your fingers getting the toast out, or burn your hands upending the thing to tip the toast out. Muffins get completely lost, and burn around the edges. It gets very hot, but doesn't toast evenly and is VERY slow even in non peak times. Not a success.

The toaster is too big for normal sliced bread. We have to 'pick' out the bread from the toaster when it pops up as it does not pop up high enough. Given that the toaster is hot we end up burning our fingers when we take the bread out, either that or we have to turn the toaster off and take the toast out with a fork or tongs.
The dial to adjust the toast is too difficult to read from an ordinary height and it is very slow.
I agree with the other reviews that it is hot to touch but i just made sure i didn't touch the outside and waited for it to cool before i put the toaster away. I have had no problems with the toaster and have enjoyed it for many years. We are only replacing it because our toasting requirements don't suit a two slice toaster anymore :)

Bought this toaster on special and found the outside very hot to touch during and after cooking toast, nearly scolded my fingers. Keep young children away whilst operating as it would scold them. It also marked very easily and left finger prints...will be returning it. I also will be going back to Breville
