Average electric line trimmer
I purchased this for a small yard and only because I already had 3x 18v batteries. It's decent for a small yard and worked fine cutting wise with almost no vibration but motor noise was a bit louder than expected, triggering the dogs .
The edging function is the only stand out point on this otherwise average tool. It feels very loose and tacky when twisting the handle between trim and edge functions.
The cutting blade for the auto feed is blunter than a butter knife and will eventually cut the line after 10 seconds of it slapping about on the guard at full rpm - whoever came up with auto feeding by throttle needs to be shot as it rarely works correctly even after trying 3 different new spools between 1.6mm-2mm.
Purchased in April 2021 for $110.00.

One of my favourite tools
I have flogged this poor machine on a five acre property. Woody weeds to grass. Has not missed a beat. Has converted some men too. For a battery operated machine, the battery lasts a long time. The plastic body has stood up well to hard work. Have got my moneys worth over and over. Light weight. My only wish is it came with hole to hold a harness on at times.

it is a piece of second rate rubbish
I think Ryobi need to go back to the drawing board and get rid of this single line
head replace it with a twin line head, Also when it cuts off the line the excess fly off
and can hit anyone near by.

Fantastic product!
Completely satisfied with my new trimmer. It's lightweight and not loud when in use. This will save lots of money on gardening fees. Definitely meets my gardening needs. Very happy.

doesn't cut the mustard - well barely does
This whipper sniper is easy to assemble. You just need to attach the handle and the lower trim guard and it is ready to go. I paid $99 for the unit which is good value. I could not warrant paying $300 for the kit which included the battery and charger since I have a large collection of the Ryobi plus range already.
Wish I could say positives about this unit. But I am sorry having owned various others this is by far the worst.
Who ever designed this is an idiot. Read on and I will explain why.

Disappointed
I also have a big problem with the line feed, even from the beginning the battery is great but the trimmer won’t cut thick and longer grass.
It is easy to start and hold but disappointed with the line feed and cutting

Give it a miss
I’m a big fan of the Ryobi 18v products but the line trimmer is a big disappointment.
Easy to start, light weight & quiet.
Small light grass areas can work, buffalo grass no good.

Ryobi OLT 1830. Really just a toy.
Important things first. Seriously struggles to edge through buffalo grass, even struggles to shred a single runner of buffalo grass if it is fresh and green. It is really only a toy. As with most things, your needs should be a significant factor when choosing.

This works surprisingly well
I bought this for $100 not expecting much, as i already owned some ryobi one products. My housemates laughed when i told them i'd bought an electric whipper snipper, they work in bush regen and use huge petrol powered ones.
I just unpacked it, threw a battery in it and away i went. It definitely isn't the most powerful, but for a normal yard, trimming, weeding and all the other normal things, it will do just fine. It's very quiet as far as whipper snippers go. Easy to replace the cord spool, you just buy another spool and plug it in. I've bee...Read more
n using it for about a year and a half and have not had any trouble with it. It works so well that my housemates are quite happy using it around the house now and do not have any complaints. I seem to get about 40-50 minutes out of a 4.0Ah battery, if you have a big yard you may want more than one battery. A great cheap whipper snipper.Purchased in September 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $100.00.

Use to Petrol, but will get use to battery
Having grown up using petrol line trimmers I do miss the power you get, now on a smaller house block, I won't miss the noise, the mixing of 2 stroke and the times when the thing just would not start.
Bought the combo for $199 that has battery, charger, blower vac and trimmer.
The 18v trimmer is suited to smaller yards and with the 4.0 size battery, I was able to do the front and back yard no issues.

Nice and light and good battery life
Love it as it starts easily and the battery seems to last long enough for my needs in a smallish garden . I have never had the battery die on me yet. The only downside is the useless line feed and the line is constantly breaking even with being careful not to hit concrete edges I am forever feeding the bloody line out

Don't Bother
I have owned the One+ Line Trimmer for about 8 months and I'm ready to get rid of it.
Trimming my grass takes a lot longer than it should and that is because there is only one line that comes out of the head, it wears down quickly, and the line that comes out is not long enough. I also find it extremely difficult to remove and replace the battery as it gets stuck regularly.
I love the idea of battery powered tools but the Ryobi One+ Line Trimmer OLT1830 is one you should skip.

Don't Bother... it is rubbish
I bought this a couple of seasons ago and I use it with the blade heads: I have had to replace the recharger twice, once at no cost replacement, the second time I simply bought another, assuming it to be teeting problems: First season, it was a dream - efficient, reliable, easy to use: At the beginning of the second season, it wouldn't start, so I took the whole thing to a regstered tool repairer: Around $100 to repair some fault with the trigger switch. All good for the second season: I have just pulled it out again to trim grass clumps n...Read more
ear the fence, and it again failed to start. The battery is fine and works with the blower, but the trimmer.. nothing: I am not traipsing across town again to the approved repairer again - it is going into the rubbish. I has proven to be the most unreliable tool in my shed and this is a brand I will not buy again.Purchased in December 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse.

I have wanted to go battery on the mower and wipper snippet for a while.
The Ryobi was at a good price at Bunnings, so I invested in one. It's nice and light, has plenty of power for a normal sized block and has been reliable so far.

How good is this
At first I/we thought the trimmer was a toy.
For around the house etc magic tool compared with petrol driven stuff with much bigger line.
Its not a brush cutter but great for around fence lines shrubs etc.
My wife loves it and my daughter also(bought one too).
Battery lasts ages and can be used on many other tools.

It's ok, but...
It does a decent job cutting but the bump feed head leaves a lot to be desired. The trigger mechanism is weak. I've broken mine and unable to get a replacement so had to jury-rig.

Only ok
Quiet and works with the rest of my Ryobi products however the actual whipper snipper Bump feed head is average-poor, and very hard to feed. We replaced our head completely to a better quality.

Very good domestic whipper snipper
I bought one fo these a couple of weeks ago to replace 30cc Ryobi petrol trimmer.
It has been great, no petrol or pull starts that don't work. It is perhaps a little less powerful but this has not impacted me for domestic use on my 800m2 block and easily handles the work I need it for. The bump head is very responsive and easy to reload. It is also a lot quieter and lighter making it easy to use.
The only downside I've found so far is that it is hungry on the batteries if run on 'high'. That said I've run it on low and had no dramas. The time I used a fully charged 105 aH battery it lastest barely 10mins, so now I make sure I've got the 4.5 aH battery ready to go before starting.

Helpful but not powerful
It is easy to use, to change line and it is not heavy.
I manage to get my concrete edges done but it prefers the lighter grass, certainly doesnt go through kikuyu grass runners and buffalo grass runners.
The line doesnt always feed through and some tug and war occurs feeding it through manually.
But so handy to have something light, that i can be mobile without having an electrical cord hanging behind me.

Not impressed
Firstly I am only a short person so the adjustable handle height was great, but I still found the unit somewhat heavy for me as a female, not to mention it was noisy and the plastic line/cord kept breaking so it was a constant start stop to fix and feed the line through to get the job done, and it was difficult and was most frustrating and has since put me off buying another whipper snipper, no matter what brand it is, this one just gave me a bad feeling about all of them.

Update - since the purchase I have found a way to get better performance out of this whipper snipper.
you have to keep stopping and lengthening the line but you get better cutting performance - even in long grass.I put in a larger battery - 5 AH
I adjust the line to make it longer (press button on head unit) -... Read more
