Bin it.

I had the same problem occasionally. I had to stop “revving” it and give the head a tap on the ground to see if it would turn. When it finally engages, add power. Good luck. Very annoying bit of kit.

Personally I recommend putting the thing in the bin. Search Bunnings Ryobi line trimmer accessories they have what you need.

This should be the one you need. Just make sure you use the yellow knob to tighten the head on completely (it has a "wrench" built into the inside")

Then once it is installed... line up the line with the arrows, and fish the line through the middle ... and wind the knob.

Good luck!

Hi Tricky, Sorry for the delay in replying. Haven't checked my email for a while. One of the endearing features of the Ryobi line trimmer is that it uses the same spool for straight shaft and bent shaft trimmers. If you take the spool off to clean it and put it in upside down the line winds in not out when you bump the head. If you look closely you will see print on the spool saying something like "This side out straight shaft line trimmers" and the other side has "This side out bent shaft trimmers. Try flipping the spool and see if this helps. The other problem I have had when really working the trimmer hard is that the line can melt onto the spool. I don't know a fix for that problem. Good Luck. Phil

Hi Mike, Sorry for the delay in replying. Are you getting a spark? I ended up buying a new carby for mine on line, which cost about $30. It's working again, but it wasn't that easy to change. Could be oil built up in the cylinder if you haven't used it much. You may be able to rinse it out by putting clean petrol in the spark plug hole and rinsing it out. Otherwise I'd suggest getting someone to look at it.

My best advice after going through 3 Ryobi's 6 months (all under warranty) is take it back get a refund and buy a Weedeater (they are actually made by Husqvana)

How do I thread the cord?

This particular model comes with an easy feed bump head. Line up the arrows with the line (ensure the spool has 'curved shaft' facing up).
Feed up to 6metres of 2.4mm line right though the middle, then wind back in.
