Best lawnmower ever
I’ve had this mower for 4 years and it still goes like the very first day, I love it it’s easy to start, light weight and reliable, the battery allows me to mow the front and quiet a large back yard before it runs out. I would recommend this to anyone.
Purchased in November 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $399.00.

It's Very Good.
36cm cutting width is no worries, im not in a hurry. 70 square metres of rollout lawn to cut is no problem.
No trips to the servo for fuel, no oil mix,no pulling arm out of socket trying to start. Push a button and squeeze a trigger and it comes to life, you release the trigger it stops almost instantly. Its lightwieght. No smoke or noise, you could mow at 7am on a Sunday morning and I doubt neighbors would notice.
Purchased 10/10/2018
Keep your docket, and if you have a problem, take it back.

Unrepairable due lack of replacement parts
I purchased this lawnmower about 5 years ago and recently broke the plastic handle to it. I've contacted Ryobi who has informed me that a replacement part is not available and that basically I'll now have to toss this 5 year old battery operated lawnmower in the garbage. While the lawnmower did a credible job, I think people need to be aware that if something breaks a repair may not be possible. While this is from this particular model the RML3640L, it could also be true of other Ryobi models. Just be careful.

Great concept - poor execution
Mower cuts well and his light and easy to manouver. 18v Battery is sufficient for me to mow, edge and blow my smallish lawn (front and back) with power to spare. Issues with mower design with control cable having to be taped back to handle to stop it catching in folding arms immediately after purchase. Control handles plastic case cracked and had to be taped together approx year 2. Year three the soft start control mechanism has failed and is no longer available so mower can't be repaired and needs to be replaced. Will buy another cordless mower but won't be a Ryobi.

Terrible product
Not happy mower keeps cutting out, hard to manoeuvre overall it puts me off mowing my lawns. Needs to operate more efficiently and not cut out . Cleaning it was also very hard. Will definitely not buy this brand again.
Anyone who has time on there hands this is a good product for you

Only now it runs out of steam
I have had this model for about 4 years now, we bought it as it was cordless and it was light enough for me to carry over the deck to our grass. It worked like a treat in the old house but since we have moved into a new house that has much finer grass the mover struggles a bit with very fines.. it may be the fact that after 2 srips of about 15m of grass the catcher if full. I would recommend this mover for small backyard and thick broad leaf grasses.

Love it!
I like to doing gardening. But for me mower was always bit hard to turn on. Especially when you need to pull the rope thing and turn on. I had to pull it out about millions time to turn on. and not sure which hole I can pour the petrol in it. Looks stupid but I am from overseas (as you can see in my English haha) and never see lawn mower before.
Anyway this mower is easy to turn on and off, operate with battery so don't need to panic when run out of petrol. We have been using this mower for 2 years and happy with it. We bought trimmer, clip...Read more

Weak mower
Battery charger is a good unit and I like the idea of a battery powered mower. However this mower is under-powered.
Standard battery is a bit weak. I eventually bought a second battery to allow me to do the back and front lawns. The mower still struggles when mowing on the lowest height setting. It also struggles when cutting through a bit of onion grass.
Power cable that runs from the handle to the main body of the mower is flimsy and can get caught up in the machine. I accidentally severed it when folding the handle up.

Very unhappy with Brand
As with others the plastic handle model RL3640L (grab handle) on left in our case just snapped while general mowing over a week ago ..to add insult our Ryobi 36v line trimmer motor now just smokes so also unusable (went a week before Mower) .. as with others Ryobi said tough luck out of warranty re line trimmer + put online complaint 14/1/18 to Ryobi about Mower and they haven't even replied (now 10 days later). Ryobi now offer a 6 year warranty which indicates this model with 2 years was far inferior quality. Hopefully can sell batteries and hedge trimmer to cut loses as at this point will be last Ryobi product ever buy or recommend

Wife can mow the lawn
When I know my husband is really really busy and very tired, I mow the lawn. Just turn it on and it goes it's so easy. My husband loves it because with a petrol mower there was always often up to 30mins getting it petrol and cleaning spark plugs etc etc before you even started. So this one cuts mowing time down by heaps and 'His wife can use it' aaaahhhhh. Maybe I should give it one star cause I can use it... I'm also over 60 so it's pretty easy very much like pushing my golf buggy around.

Super Good and quiet
Im got this because my motorised one was just way to heavy to push and not that easy to move but i got this and it is verry good cutting the grass at a nice even level unlike my gas powered one, it is suuuper quite but the motorised one is super loud and even a pain to listen to from a far distance, the cstch tray is a tad small but it still collects a lot of grass, the blades are super sharp, had this for about 10 and a half months and still going strong

Very poor design
Mower was working fine until the power cord on the handle accidentally got jammed in the handle. This caused some wires to short but as there is no protection for the mowers electronic controller, this was damaged and had to be replaced. (total cost $180)
That's when the problems started: Ryobi has APPALLING after sales service and virtually non existent service network. Most mower shops won't touch these. Due to delays in getting parts and other issues, it took me $ MONTHS!!! to get the mower repaired.
Although this model is no longer ma...Read more
de, if you are going to get one of these, check that the motor controller now has adequate protection against shorting of the power cable and motor overload. (It is advisable to start the motor on a footpath: if you start in long grass, the motor may overload and also burn out the controller) I have just purchased some spiral cable protector to put over the power cable so it cannot be easily damaged in the future.Similar opinion? Plastic handle with all electrics snapped off after 3 years - Ryobi say bad luck its out of warranty
Don't buy this Ryobi mower or the new one with the same PLASTIC handle that houses the electrics. I bought this electric mower 3 years ago. It was always garaged or stored in a shed. Yesterday the entire PLASTIC handle snapped off in my hands. Unfortunately this is where all the electrics are and the whole thing is hard wired so it's not just a matter of ordering a new part. Ryobi won't replace this because it not within their 2 year warranty period. They did very graciously offer to have their agent (SYDNEY - 4 hours drive) fix it but I ...Read more
had pay all the freight (estimated at $130 return). Their nearest service centre didn't have an electrician to fix it. What a joke!! How many of us are still using mowers that are 10, 15 even 20 years old! I don't expect to have to spend $650 on a mower and have it only last 3 years. Total RIP OFF!!!! I will NEVER buy another PLASTIC Ryobi product again after being shafted by these guys!!!!! I'll buy something that is fixable by the local mower repair guy - not Ryobi's plastic mower.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ryobi cordless mower using 36V battery
I brought the mower and battery pack in mid 2013. It costed me $299.
Now the charger is not working. As they don't sell charger separately, one has to buy the battery and the charger pack which costs $279 !!!!
I have to change my mind not to use cordless mower anymore. Too expensive to run and keep.

Happy, but only buy if its suitable for your lawn!
I've had this mower for two years now and still going strong with grass that grows like weeds. I have a fair size yard on a 750m2 block. But there are some things you need to consider! It's a battery mower, so don't expect performance of a petrol mower for 4 hours. It is designed to be lightweight and small and avoid hassles of 2 or 4 stroke fuel. It is suited for small to medium yards with little storage space.
If you complain that the plastic broke because you hit a rock, your dog ate the cable, it won't mow your overgrown thick lawn, or is...Read more

Cheap to run
Bought this from bunninngs for 120 bucks as somebody stole the key and battery easily fixed with other battery I had will mow approx 25x25 metre area with a 2.6a/h battery would not use in wet due to open motor windings underneath not good where water would damage unit. But it was a pretty good buy I thought for the money

Beware - if this mower has a problem then you're stuck
I bought this mower in April 2014 and it was fantastic until my puppy chewed through the black cable that runs from the handle down to the base. I thought this would be a very simple and quick repair but I can't believe how wrong I was.
Firstly, it was difficult to find a mower repairer who would even look at it and there were no Ryobi service centres in my city. But a couple of weeks later (and with my grass starting to get very long), a local mower centre rang to say they had fixed the cable. So I picked it up, bought it home - and nothing...Read more
. It would not work. So I take it back again, and they spend weeks apparently trying to figure out what's wrong with it. Starting to get frustrated by this time, I tell them to ring Ryobi and get some advice. The repairer tells me that Ryobi has advised there are no spare parts available and nothing can be done. What?! Surely this can't be true. So I ring Ryobi myself and find out that there are parts available but they have to be ordered through Bunnings. However, I don't know what parts are required so I get the repairer to ring Ryobi (again) to get the part number. I ring Ryobi myself to double-check this, then place an order with Bunnings. By this time, it's now been more than a month since I needed to mow my lawn. After the usual delays over the Christmas break, Bunnings call to say my part has arrived. Hallelujah!! So I pick it up and drop it down to the repairer who informs me that the part is incorrect and was for a different model of Ryobi mower. So now the repairer has to ring Ryobi again and eventually finds out it was a completely different part required and orders directly through Ryobi. It's now been several weeks later and the repairer doesn't have the spare part that he's ordered and I'm still without a mower. I've paid for the initial repair to the cable as well as the incorrect spare part previously ordered through Bunnings, and there will be another bill coming when the spare part finally arrives. Then add another $200 I've spent paying for a mowing service. So the upshot is that I've been waiting three months so far, the mower is still lying in pieces at the repair shop, and my blood pressure is through the roof. It would have been far less stressful and time-consuming if I had just thrown the mower in the bin and bought a new one.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Formula 1 looks are not the real benefit
Typical Japanese showy design had me looking for more chrome finishes but the real deal is the 40cm width of cut, the easy edge idea allows me to cut right up against something, the large capacity catcher with its flexible fabric sides, the great grip options as you mow to stop your hands getting tired and the easy to use 5 height cutting adjustment. It is pricier than the Ozito comparable model ( which ended up being not very comparable when I had a trial use of it ) but this is to do with the apparent benefit of being able to use the Lithium...Read more
battery on other Ryobi products which then will keep their price down. Too bad I am not interested in their other products. I am happy enough with the storage of it as it does have a big handle in the middle of the body to lift it. Anyway, it is doing a great job on my new instant turf Buffalo Sapphire lawn.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Makes mowing the lawn much less of a chore
I'm a slightly built female and like other reviewers have said, this mower is great for those of us without a lot of muscle power. I've only had it for a few weeks and very pleased with it so far. It's light and easy to manoeuvre and I love the fact that you don't have to drag out a heavy mower and fill the tank with petrol before yanking a pull cord (sometimes a lot) to get it started. That task was often enough to make you exhausted BEFORE even starting the mowing. The battery charges quite quickly and lasts long enough to do my front and ...Read more
back yards of average size and still has power to do more. I haven't even come close to running it down even half way. The battery was a bit of a mystery at first in terms of removing it from the charger and then the mower but it's just a matter of finding the right spot at the back of the latch to release it. The instructions aren't very clear on this. The battery slides in and out of the charger and mower with ease. It comes with a good soft-sided catcher but it mulches the grass so there's no real need to use the catcher if you mow regularly. It starts easily and quickly (literally just a couple of seconds). It can be a little tiring to continually hold down one of the switches to keep it running but that's just a matter of getting used to. There are a few options on the handle so it's easy to swap the grip. Unlike the petrol mowers, if you need to stop and pick something up the mower cuts out instantly but then starts again just as fast - a bonus over the petrol models. It cuts the grass quite well but possibly doesn't have the same level of 'grunt' as a petrol mower although it still cuts with relative ease. A couple of small quibbles: it doesn't have a very wide cut so you do need to make more runs across your lawn to cut it all and it doesn't cut particularly close against barriers such as garden edges and fences. One more thing that could be improved is the height adjustment. It's easy to change but the lowest one #1 tends to dig into the ground and #2 is a bit higher than I want. There should be a setting in between. The mower's also much quieter than any petrol mower I've ever heard, which I'm sure the neighbours appreciate. At $499, I do think it's a bit pricey considering it's mainly plastic and hope it lasts a few years to make it worth the cost. Overall, it's so easy and quick to use that I tend to mow more often because it's not as onerous as dragging out the petrol Victa and my yard looks better for it. UPDATE: Had to buy a new battery for over $270 and was told by Bunnings employee that approx 3yrs worth of work out of one battery was pretty good. Still a good mower but worth noting the battery will need to be replaced after 2 - 3yrs average use.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best Mower Ever!!
I am only a small person (5'4") with a bung left hand. Used to struggle with the standard petrol push mower. This mower is fantastic. Easy to start, the charge lasts a long time and is so easy to get in and out of the mower (once i worked out there is a catch on the underneath of the battery once inserted in the mower). The mower is so easy to push and love the handle with dual hand holds. The blades cut my grass very well. Look forward now to mowing the lawn.

Mowing lawn today using RLM3640L 36v mower. Hit a high spot and the motor stopped (stalled). Moved it off the high spot but cannot get it to restart. Have tried the suggestions here but still no go. I have continuity from battery to start buttons and shows 4 green lights. Removable fuse tested OK. Motor hand turns freely. Any ideas to get it started / reset?

I have just bought one and used it once - same problem, with thick grass or an obstacle, it stalls. I found that if you wait and persist, it starts again.
Take it back to where you bought it. They will know / replace it.
Thanks for the replies. I have already tried the first suggestion when I saw it on other threads and here as well - no good. The mower was bought September 2013, so it is a couple of months out of the 5 year warranty. We have looked for repairers here in Australia other than the retailer. Now looking at modifying the operation of the mower (if possible) before scrapping it.

How can I release the battery in the mower? I have had this mower for 4 years and this has never happened before.
