Very very ordinary
In the main, an absolute piece of crap. Yes the engine is ok, but no better than any other mainstream mower of reputable brand and power.
Starts great, but restarts are terrible. Petrol often leaks into air filter. Difficult to fold arms at end of use without removing large plastic wings nuts that join arms near the body. And as for those plastic three pointed screws - it doesn't matter how much you tighten them, the vibration of the mover causes them to loosen, and therefore makes the whole handle seem flimsy. And on two occasions I've ha...Read more

Sturdy beast
I have only had this a few months but so far its been good. Its a heavy beast but well built. My neighbour recommended it to me and he has been using it for over 3 years and couldnt fault it. We have a big lawn and this does the job easily and with good petrol efficiency. We got ours from Bunnings

Hopefully 3rd time lucky
Today i took the Ryobi back to Bunnings. The second time since Jan 2016! Same problem with both machines - worked well for a few months (about 15 hours running in total), then backfired with smoke and won't start again. Bunnings guys said i am the first with this problem, however seems many on this forum had the same issue What could be the root cause, Subaru?
Hopefully the 3rd mower would be the one to last 10 years!

Love the mulching on this lawnmower!
My other half always wanted a Subaru - now he has one! This mower has a high torque Subaru engine. It has a wide cutting path (so cutting time is reduced) and the mulching function cuts the grass trimmings fine enough to mulch back into the lawn, so no need to rake up cuttings and this provides fertiliser for the lawn. Being a 4-stroke engine also means better lubrication than a 2-stroke so this engine should last much longer than a 2-stroke. Handy attachment to allow hose cleaning with water after use is very handy. Only had this 3 months but so far the fuel efficiency has been great. Very happy with this purchase.

Heavy but a good reliable mower
We found this to be a good economical option for a fairly large backyard as its quite fuel efficient. It mows smoothly and it cuts very close to the ground. Its quite heavy though especially if you're pushing it up a slope, it can get very tiring. We got ours at Bunnings when they had their specials on

Backyard mower with plenty of torque
Beefy mower with plenty of torque for a backyard mower thanks to the Subaru motor. I haven't had any issues with bits falling off like some others have mentioned. I did go thru and check that all bolts were tight after assembly. Nice that it comes with a mulcher & i love the hose attachment for wash down after each mow. My only complain & its a small one at that is that its quite a heavy unit due to the bigger motor so it requires more effort to push it around. Good bang for buck for a backyard mower.

Powerful good engine, very poor build quality.
Lawn mower is easy to start, powerful and mows well.
However bits just keep falling off, firstly issues with the throttle cable, then the air filter case broke, one of the wheels is at a really weird angle and now the primer button has popped off. Sourcing spare parts is near impossible.

Beautiful Beefy Backyard Beast
Love my new Subaru mower! It makes superlight work of our large yard and it's 'pretty' too ;)
Will cut down to soil if you want it too, it goes that low. Fuel efficiency is quite good and the price was perfect. A great buy for anyone in the market for a reliable, economical high-performance petrol mower

for its price its not too bad, the engine is quite powerful, and its good on fuel. But after 5months of owning one the body is falling appart allmost to the point where its unusable which is a real shame, it was used often over the time i owned it on my 1/3 of a acre block. just thought id put my 5cents worth in thanks

Ryobi Best mower
I have owned one for just over 12 months. I have read some negative reviews here however mine has started 1st time every time with approx 45 times used and for 2.5 hours each time. I have found it only blocks up when lawn is wet (You shouldn't mow when lawn is wet with any mower). Maintaining mower is important, clean after each use, change oil after 30 hours of use. Don't mulch under no 6 setting or it WILL clog. Use RON 98 fuel and 20w50 straight mineral oil 10w30 is just too light for Australian conditions. Clean air filter after each mow. T...Read more
o fit rear catcher easily you must lift rear flap ALL the way up and forward towards front, then it's a breeze. I have cut grass out in back paddock that's over 1.5 metres high and it did it with ease, I love this RYOBI mower. I would recommend it to anyone. It's now 1st January 2022 UPDATE. This mower has performed excellently. I give it 4 pumps on the primer and it always starts on 1st rip of the cord. I have been changing the oil every 6 months. I have found that RON95 is the best fuel. I also have been adding 60 mls of Lucas engine oil stabilizer and the engine is clean and runs smoothly. This mower is as good as a Honda for 1/2 the price. I don't know what the blades are made of, but I haven't had to replace them. They are like 90% of new. Every other mower I have had needs blades every 12 months. Buy one of these Ryobi's and you won't be sorry.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great motor let down by body design
Just finished using one that I just purchased. Initial setup was interesting, it does seem a step backwards going to bolts for the handle adjustment, but hey, I change it once at the start, I can live with that (I do have to wonder how tall someone would need to be at full extension however. I'm 6ft and that was still crazily high!). Motor up and running first pull, great start.
Nothing stopped the motor apart from clippings not clearing the underbody, building up and eventually stalling the motor. Hey the grass was a little damp, and i...Read more

Beast of a Mower
A first Class Mower, never failed in the last 4 years until now, I would buy another one tomorrow only I have to buy a Ride On as I am on 1 Acre. Can't sing the Ryobi-Subaru praises enough, wish they sold a Ryobi-Subaru Ride On, I would be the first to buy. BRILLIANT>

Clean Power
I've had this Ryobi 190cc mower for a few months now and rate it as > 4 Stars but not quite 5. Power wise the Subaru motor is unbeatable; I've mowed through grass 2ft high and it loves it. You can hear the engine knuckle down and power through it. It emits less fumes than your B&S powered mowers but it does feel a tad heavy even with an empty catcher. The 50 litre catcher is great, I can mow my average size back yard filling only one catcher load. The fuel tank is bigger than most which obviously reduces the need for a refuel halfway. I loaned ...Read more
it to my neighbour who then went out and bought one. Yep, for the money it is one hell of a lawnmower. I used to hate having to mow the lawn with my old B&S underpowered pieca, now I just do it with ease.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great for well kept gardens but marketing overpromises
A good solid mower that does a great job around the garden if the lawn is kept reasonably under control. It is marketed as having "an impressive amount of torque to power through even the thickest of grass". This is a bit misleading since if the grass is long (several inches), and more so if wet, the mower cuts through the grass easily but cannot clear the clippings. They compact against the inside of the deck until the whole underside of the mower is clogged to the point where the growing mass presses down on the blades. The motor still does not stall but the blades howl in grinding protest as they are forced back on their pivots. So heaps of power and torque but difficult to apply it where it is needed most.

POWWEERRRRRRR!!!!
Without a doubt, this is probably one of the most underrated lawn mower I’ve ever seen.
I bought this Ryobi EA-190V from Bunnings last year, around November, so can’t comment on its longevity. I wanted a 190cc mower as I live on a large block and due to little spare time, I don’t have the chance to mow too often, hence grass grows quite quickly and heavily. I settled on the Ryobi, after having a recent bad experience with Victa quality – “what the heck?” I thought “I always wanted to own a Subaru”.
Here is my list of pros and cons. Let’s ...Read more
deal with the bad points first: CONS 1. Catcher can be annoying to fit – I have to lift the chute flap as far up as it will go to be able to comfortably attach the catcher. Even then it does require a little manhandling of the plastic catcher to attach it. 2. The cable linking the throttle control to the engine is not placed too well – it obscures the hose attachment somewhat (annoying). 3. The height adjustment lever is not flush with the wheels, and extends over the wheels on the right hand side. This means, you can’t cut too close to things on your right, so you have to do a second pass with things like fences and poles on your left.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great mower!
Powerful engine, always starts first time. Cuts through knee high long grass easily. Only bad point is the grass chute gets clogged with wet grass. I made it better but not perfect by lifting the chute flap higher by fixing a short bungee cord to it and the handle. That is when not using the catcher or mulch plug on really long grass. I find it easy to use, although a little heavy on a slope.

Will not start.
Terrible lawnmower. Ran rough from new from Bunnings Hervey Bay. Only put a few tanks of fuel through it now won't start at all. New fuel, clean spark plug and air filter. Now all it will do is backfire through the carburettor. Height adjustment blocks access to Aircleaner. How about camlock on the handle? Not recommended at all.

Mower can't handle damp or long grass
As other purchasers have said, this mower generally starts easily and has a powerful Subaru motor which does mean that it is a little heavy to push. It generally cuts well UNTIL THE GRASS GETS WET OR LONG. Then it loses the ability to clear itself irrespective of whether it has the catcher, mulcher, or nothing at all attached to it.
Rain and long grass often go together up here in the tropics which means that when the drought breaks you can almost see the grass grow. Waiting for it to dry out is not a proposition as it is growing taller a...Read more

So Far Very Impressed
I bought this mower a few months ago to replace an aging (+15yo) Rover. I went for the bigger model of Ryobi that came with the mulch plug.
Well so far I am impressed. I didn't think that using the mulching feature instead of the catcher would result in a clean-looking lawn, but boy was I wrong. Not having to stop every 10 minutes to empty a catcher is awesome and not having to push the extra weight of the filling catcher means it is a lot quicker to do my yard than before.
So far so good, I guess it's just the test of time now.
Got the Bunnings gal to throw in the 1Lt of oil (don't forget it comes dry so you need oil) for an all-up price of $500. Was waiting for a special but lawn was getting massively long and had to buy.

Ok, 6 months later and I still like this Ryobi. I don't even use the catcher any more because the mulching plug works brilliantly, so way quicker to mow since I don't have to stop to empty the catche... Read more
r. Just learn how to fit and remove the plug - it can be very tricky at first. This has to be the easiest mower to start, and even a small half-hearted pull on the cord will start it up no troubles. Weight didn't become an issue even though I was worried after reading some other reviews. The flushing/hose adapter plug is in a crap location to use easily, but that's the only down side for the moment.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ryobi 190cc Mower.
Having purchased this item recently, i have to say it is excellent, does the job i want it to do without any apparent problems, just as good as the Rover i had prior to it, obviously has a lot more power, really churns through the grass with ease, quite easy to manuver and fitment of the catcher and mulcher posed no problems.
As far as build quality goes to me it does feel somewhat cheaply made when comparing it to the Rover, of course that doesn't apply to the motor which is superb, started first tug and the same thereafter, should say howe...Read more
ver have used it twice only, but can't really see any ongoing issues with it, only gets used on a large suburban block and quite happy with the way it cuts the lawn, may i add picked this up for the princely sum of $395 thanks to my brother who works at Bunnings so received a staff discount. Its all good.... June 6th 2017 Update: Ryobi RLM4619SMB Been using this mower since January of this year, no apparent problems still working fine, i was quite amazed it cuts wet grass with ease (albeit short grass) i do not use the catcher or the mulcher, opened the rear chute slightly so as to allow the cut grass to exit works fine...Find it uses less fuel than my previous mower probably because it's relatively new, always starts first time every time, i can recommend it from my own experience, cheersSimilar opinion? Starts and runs for 15 seconds then backfires and fouls the spark plug. Great Chinese product!

Replace plug regardless, just been through this. Plug on a tester may read ok but under compression falters.
Thanks Michael I'll try a new one. Much appreciated mate.

I'm dealing with this to mate. Such a temperamental motor. Loves to back fire now as well.
I have just solved this problem with a replacement spark plug. Had checked timing key, tappet settings, cleaned carburettor, checked spark plug, still hard to start and back firing. I replaced the spark plug and problem solved. Just guessing, I assume the plug malfunctioned under compression pressure which I understand can happen. Hope this helps.
