A quiet achiever, far superior to our old Quantum 340 heat pump.
After our 6 year old Quantum heat pump imploded due to electrolysis we checked the reviews on most efficient and cost effective hot water alternatives and settled on the Sanden Eco 315 heat pump which best took advantage of our solar array.Ben Cole from Newgen Solar in Melbourne visited us to outline the attributes of the system which included very quiet fan operation, stainless Australian made 316 tank with a 15 year guarantee, ( no annode needed ), quality installation and removal of our defunct unit. He took care of the govt. rebate and true to his word had the whole thing organised to be installed the next day. Cost with the rebate was $4500. I will give you all an update when the unit has been in operation for 6 months.

Quiet as a mouse, efficient, money saving
Have had our Sanden Eco Heat Pump 315L for just over two months now. Runs on overnight tariff for a household of 5 and have had hot water 24/7 with no issues. The unit is so quiet when running it is unbelievable (yes I got up in the middle of the night to listen to how quiet it was) The Sanden replaced a 15 year old Rheem 250L electric storage unit which was using 11.5kWh a day on average. In comparison the Sanden uses 2.6kWh a day on average since install to heat a 25% larger tank of water . On the Sanden website they state a saving of 78% over a conventional storage hot water service. My figures absolutely support this claim. Loving this amazing product

not suitable as an hydronic hot water system - as the retailer advertised
Sanden are a good company in our experience. However do not purchase this System if you plan to use it for Hydronic heating your home. Enter Store in Eltham advertised and sold it for this purpose and it doesn't work efficiently nor does it heat as it should. I expect it would be OK for hot water alone. There is lots of info from Sanden as to its effectiveness. but under no circumstances buy this thinking it will work, as Enter Store have advertise, as a solar heat pump for hydronic heating, it was Not designed to do so and don't let them tell you otherwise.
Pls note I'm rating this for hydronics not hot water

Peace of mind. Simply quiet and efficient
Quieter than my aircon and only cost 1/4 electricity to run.
Yes the up front cost is pretty high but it will pay it self back in about 3-4 years.
Would never live without one if we ever moved.
And the unit is pretty smart as its a separate system so you only need to replace one unit if the tank or heat pump broke

Sanden, its the best!
Had my Sanden now for 3 years, since I replaced my Rheem heat pump. Other than when I hang out my washing where my peg basket sits on the unit, I never notice it. Never hear it, never run out of hot water, never failed – A considerable improvement from the last system. I’ve noticed the electrical bill is less too as there is no sneaky element kicking in. Definitely recommend a Sanden Hot Water unit.

Unprofessional installation by Sanden recommended installer
Just purchased a Sanden Hot water system after reading reviews on Google, whirlpool, etc.
What a disappointment. The Sanden recommended install has installed this expensive system in an unprofessional manner. Leaning at an angle against side of the house. Couldn't set the timer as young electrician couldn't work out a 24 hour clock. Noisy due to vibrating pump
Recommended company sent inexperienced trades people to install a $5000 system. Why would Sanden recommend a company that sends a tradesman they have employed for two weeks who has never installed a Sanden before to install such an expensive system?
Sorry Sanden, a big thumbs down from me.

Everything I expected
Recently replaced my storage gas HWS with a Sanden heat pump unit and couldn't be happier. I've set mine to reheat from 11am - 5pm to take advantage of our solar panels. Even in Canberra's cold winters, it is heating the water within 1.5-4 hours (with longer being on colder and higher use days). Even at peak electricity rates (if completely clouded over), it costs 50% less than gas use was costing and with solar generation a whopping 80% less, and that's in the dead of winter with high use! Compressor unit is whisper quiet and the whole system looks solidly built.

By Far... The Best Hot Water System Available In Australia!!!
The ultimate in quality ...Amazingly quiet.... So cheap to operate, stainless steel tank...And no frost issues ... Forget solar unless it is backed by a sanden, I did away with the hot water tariff, as the fix charge was 3 times more than the usage charge.. Saved $360 a year on that alone

So far so great!
When our electric hot water storage system finally kicked the bucket we were unsure as to whether just replace like for like or to go with a heat pump. Ultimately we chose to go with a heat pump for overall efficiency and we chose the Sanden after all the research on line pointed to this particular make. We have only recently had it installed so I am unable to comment on whether there has been a significant saving in terms of money spent. However what I can say is that it is a professionally built, high quality unit. One of our main concerns wa...Read more
s the noise a heat pump supposedly makes. Whilst there is a noise, it is a very quiet one and if I had to compare it with something it would be the noise of a ceiling fan on low it is that quiet and during the day you can hardly hear it running. As we have a 5kv solar system we have hooked the heat pump up to a timer (there is a timer on the system itself but we already have one on our power board) so that it reheats throughout the day only. So far we have not had to switch the timer off to heat extra water at night. We used www.energysolarsolutions.com.au to supply and install and Peter was excellent with his service and also his knowledge of the system. We had a lot of questions which he was able to answer to put our mind at ease. He also took care of all the rebate paperwork so we didn't have to claim anything back ourselves. Peter went above and beyond with the installation and as a result we have a high quality product with a high quality installation to suit. I'll update the review once we have had a couple of power bills so we can comment on the efficiency and the approx savings.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It's better than excellent!
I swore I'd never buy a hotwater heat pump again. For the last 6 years we've only had warm water but now it's hot again. I'm glad that I listened to the salesman and tried one more time. It's a high quality unit and whisper quiet. Japanese heatpump, Australian cylinder.

Top of the range
The Sanden is built as a quality system that cannot be faulted. Audi and prestige cars use Sandem for aircon in the auto industry.
Mine runs from 11pm to 5 am on a 315 l tank and has very efficient hot water consumption.
Mind you if you use all the 315 l in a day and have a block out period., you'll have to wait the next 40 mins after it starts to have hot water .
I've been caught out.
For Melbourne weather it is the most efficient and unrivalled

Not cheap, but a very good hot water system
Our house was large with 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. We had a large heat pump hot water system which stopped working after less than 4 years, in October 2013. We also had high power bills, I think partly because we could not programme the hot water system to only operate at certain times. We replaced our old system with a Sanden Heat Pump system, which we could programme. We then enjoyed a significant drop in power bills, and the new system was much more quiet. The Sanden system cost us about $4,800 but produced plenty of hot water much more economically. We sold our house a year later, so we only had it for a year. But based on that year's performance we would strongly recommend the Sanden Heat Pump system.

Excellent, Very Quiet And Economical
I've got it installed over a year ago. I haven't had any problems at all. It is very quiet and it doesn't cost me a cent to run.
I've got the solar panels and the pump only runs between 11am and 5pm. There may be raining days when my panels don't create enough electricity but in Perth it just doesn't happen. The pump only takes 1kW which is only 20% of my solar system. My gas bill before installing the sanden pump was about $250 now it is about $60, which are mostly fixed charges and whatever I use for cooking. My last power bill was $80.

Sanden hot water is amazing
When you tell friends how cheap this is to run they just don't believe until you show them power bill. Had unit installed august 2013 by Sackett services Tasmania. Using average of 4 killowatts a day that's about 60 cents a day for 315 ltr.4 person house showering daily.very quiet, fast recovery.

Good except for the after install requirement of a pcb cover to protect from geckos at our expense
We were really happy with our Sanden Heat pump. The only negative has been that after install we were informed that there have been a few instances in QLD where the pcb has been damaged beyond repair by geckos. The pcb replacement cost would be $1600. Sanden was offering pcb covers to be installed. This cost us an extra $129 including install; however I believe that this is a manufacturing oversight as the product should be designed to cope in the Australian environment. I think Sanden should have fixed this problem as it was their mistake.

Sanden Heat Pump - the best thing since sliced bread
Delivered and installed Friday, 27 February 2015. Sanden Heat Pump Unit matched to a 315L stainless steel 'short' (1589hx690w) Platinum Series Tank Unit produced in Australia by Wise Living Products in Albury NSW. This system does everything the manufacturer claims of it. Whisper quiet and highly efficient. Within ten minutes it was producing hot water. At twenty minutes I had hot water at all the taps in the house including the shower. We have a two person three bedroom one bathroom household. We both shower in the mornings and mostly hand was...Read more
h our dishes. Our clothes are washed in cold water. We are on a time-of-day electricity supply. My intention was always to run the system on the off-peak tariff. In NSW off-peak tariff is between 10pm and 7am. The system is set up to run once a day. There is a 'block-out' timer function within the Heat Pump Unit which you set to determine how long you want the system to run. The manufacturer recommends a minimum of five hours if run on off-peak. After a bit of testing I determined, for our needs, a lot less time was required for the system to recover the hot water used during the previous twenty four hours. After a bit of testing, I set the 'block-out' time to start at 5am and end at 2am. The system will not operate during the 'block-out' period. Initial start up on the Friday was just after midday. I checked the system just before 5pm and it had already shut itself down having heated all the water in the tank from dead cold to hot. During the 'test' period I used a manually operated booster switch (I have it in the laundry) to provide power to the system as and when I needed. My first test was done in the early hours of Sunday morning. Turned the power on at 3am and when I checked at 4.30am the system had already turned itself off. Determined to get a better idea of how long it took to fully recover our twenty four hour usage, my last test was done during the day so that I could sit (with a book) and watch the unit operating. It was an overcast day. 22.6 degrees. Turned on the power at 12.25pm and at approximately 13.05pm, the system shut itself off. A total of 40 minutes for the system to recover all of the hot water we had used. It is early days yet, but I believe this system is operating more efficiently than my previous Solahart split system solar HWS (solar panels on the roof with tank on ground). For one thing, it does not need the sun to be shining to operate. It cost me a little over $3800 fully installed. A little more expensive maybe, but with a 15 year pro-rata warranty on the stainless steel tank and no need of an Anode replacement every five years, well worth the few additional dollars in my book.Similar opinion? Sanden Heat Pump Hot Water
Review from one of Sackett Services customers
Sanden Heat pump hot water system.
As may remember we felt as though we were taking a bit of a gamble on this one. Our previous experience was that the out door units were pretty noisy. In our case we only had one option for positioning it which was right under our bedroom window! Anyway mate we trusted your (Michael from Sackett Services) judgement. Below is what I have to say about these systems,
• Bloody fantastic!
• I could say that the thing never runs, because I have hardly heard it....Read more

Stoked in 24 hours
We replaced our existing, (just over five years old), failed heat pump, with a Sanden heat pump a couple of days ago. It was less cost to purchase and install. It is very quiet compared to our previous heat pump. Within thirty six hours I could tell that this system was using around 10% of the energy (bear in mind that that figure would be far better on an all electric heater, and if our old heat pump was repaired correctly under warranty it would still beat it by 75%!) that our previous heat pump system was using (that is even with the booster element disconnected). :)
Over the moon and most happy.

Brilliant Product
Prior to purchasing the Sanden heat pump we owned an Australian made brand heat pump that was quite noisy from the date of installation. The heat pump came with a two year warranty on the heat pump and five years on the tank. After a little over two years the heat pump failed and the manufacturer didn't offer any options. We decided to research and discovered (too late for us) a large number of very poor reviews of our model heat pump.
Rather than throw good money after bad we decided to replace the unit. After lots of research we disc...Read more
overed the Sanden Hot Water Heat Pump. The noise rating is 37 decibels; a factor which impressed us considerably. The warranty on the heat pump is three years and fifteen years on the stainless steel tank which is made in Australia. Price wise, the unit was around the same as others, including the Australian made brand which we were replacing. It is interesting to note that the Sanden unit operates down to minus ten degrees and therefore does not require a boost element - a plus for us. Our previous unit was using boost a lot during the winter months and pumping up the cost. The unit has been in for about a month now - we went for the 315 litre capacity model. It is whisper quiet. We can now enjoy our outdoor entertainment area regardless of whether the heat pump is operating. You have to stand beside it to see if it is operating. So far the power consumption is a little less than our previous unit for the same time last year. I will update the review in twelve months.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

My sanden hot water has stopped working unless I push the reset button on my power board. Then I get enough hot water for one shower.
I cleaned the filter so it is not that.

How do I know when the Sanden Heat Pump hot water system is running?
1 answer
Is it an older model unit? Mine is 3-5yrs old and was doing same. My plumber who installed it fixed the problem by doing a back flush of the unit to remove silt build up over time inside the system. It works a charm now but with occasional dirty water (not visibly dirty), it will likely need another flush probably annually.
This fixed the problem for me.
Sanden should post how to do a back flush instruction for those with older units. Apparently internal dirt/silt build up is not an issue on the newer models as they redesigned the system to prevent internal dirt build up.
My plumber told me how to do it about a year ago. He said he made up a blank cap to block something whilst doing the flush and I didn’t see it or properly understand his instructions and unfortunately he has moved away from the area. I have his contact details so I’m going try to get him to write it down or explain again. As my unit will likely need it done again soon.
He said it is not hard to do and it didn’t take him long.
Sanden please help with a YouTube instruction if you see this post.

Hi Chris M,
Thankyou for your enquiry.
Presently, our WA Sanden Dealer network is small and developing.
Consequently and unfortunately, we do not have a Sanden Dealer in Geraldton.
