Hate the smoke

published

Does heat the house. The smoke pours out each time we open the door. Handle fell off. Disconnected the fan relay as it took to long to get goin again. Barbecues galore are terrible and say we are doin it all wrong. We had slow combustion heaters for 35 years. This is our 3rd. The 2 previous heaters were great.

Purchased at Barbeques Galore for A$3,000.00.

Made in china rubbish. would pull it out if it didn't owe me a small fortune.
Like every thing twice the price for half the built. plate lasted three days. looks like pizza stone. I am told if i play with the fan i will be braking the law? 20 min for start up after opening door, but it must be on full.
on full the wood burns flat out and you have to put more wood on it in 18 min. guess what fan is useless..

Fan won’t work

published

Have had this fire for two days the fan won’t come on, it has a mind of its own the led light blinks constantly and the fan randomly turned itself on the following morning once the fire had gone out NOT HAPPY phoned bbq galore to report problem and told they don’t look after faults advised to go to web page and fill out form stating the problem and someone will eventually be in touch Pretty poor customer service after spending almost $4000 for the fire

Too smokey, miss having a drawer underneath to start faster

published

Pain in the bum compared to our old one, you have to babysit it too much to get it going well, and sometimes have to sit holding the door open a little to let more air in. And if you forget to watch it and it is going out you cannot open to door to get it going again as the entire place gets bombed with smoke. I don't care what others say i hate it, wish our old one lived longer. It is a great size for large bits of wood but that is about it

Perfect

Love the extra large firebox. No other heater I have seen with such a large firebox. This is because the steel is 8mm compared to the 4-5mm steel on every other woodfire heater I looked at and does not require bricks. This also gives it a 15 year warranty. can get this heater absolutely pumping and adequately warms a large house. You can also reduce the wood to just have a small fire going so i am stoked with it.

VERY VERY HAPPY

published

We bought the Saxon Mahogany because we have a very large Home and needed a bigger Heater than what we had, the only problem was every time you open the door or dampen the heater the fan turns off because of the emission Laws, so I had an electrician friend disconnect the censor and now i can turn the Heater down and still have the Fan on and also i put magnets over the hole so i can shut the flue 100% and still have a log there in the morning.
p.s. We have just noticed that the fire is almost out in the morning after filling firebox up before bed, I had a look and found the magnets had moved off the air holes. i slid them back into place with pylers all fixed and burning slow

Very unhappy

We bought a heater two years ago, first had sparks even when door was closed, not happy with the heating area, also got a large area to heat, and now it rattles, very annoying, when we tried to approach manufacturer they dismissed us saying it was installed wrong, not their problem, definitely wouldn't recommend them

Too noisy

published

We find the fan extremely noisy and is quite disturbing when watching television or when we have friends visiting our home.

We had always thought Saxon was a reputable brand but every time we open the door smoke billows out!!!! It is not so bad when it is hot and blazing, but once it get down in flame and you open door to stoke and refill (we have excellent quality wood) it fills the room with smoke.

Smokes like a train!!!

This heater is terrible

published

Purchased this heater because it states it heats 35 sq. The heat out put would be lucky to heat 10 squares. Had a jindara before this one and it had no problems heating the same area. Very disappointed.
It also has the smoke problem when you open the door. Very poor

does not heat the area as per brochure

The mahogany needs a large fire that is stacked with wood to correctly work. Due to the size of the firebox a smaller fire won't heat correctly and also lead to drawing problems resulting in smoke. Load him up and she should perform much better.

This is exactly what I have been advised by the manufacturer before purchase. It is designed for much larger areas and required quite a tall flue.

whatever you do DONT LET IT GO OUT

published

We bought this heater and regret it immensely! Once its lit it does heat fantastically, but no matter what we do we cannot open the door to put wood on it because smoke bellows out filling the room! Its horrible, it constantly sets the smoke detector off! If it goes out the entire house gets filled with smoke because the door needs to be opened to stoke it as its catching on. Very very very disappointed! We have a young child, the last thing we want is him breathing this much smoke because of a dodgy fireplace!
heats well
ridiculous amount of smoke

Great to hear you've solved the smoke issue Ben, can please you tell us how long your flue is now as we want to try lengthening ours too.

I have just under 2 metres out the roof. It is not as much of an eye sore that I thought it would be. And man it has some power now. not that I will get to use it for another 4 months.

Saxon Woodheater

published

We purchased the Saxon Mahogany woodheater at the beginning of winter 2012. It was close to $2500, it heats our 5br house well, but everytime you open the door, smoke pours out. No matter what you do (turning the fan off, moving the piece at the top) smoke still billows out. It fills the hoouse with smoke and that is just to put another log on. I wouldn't suggest buying this heater. Very dissappointed.
Heats very well.
Too smoky, fan is loud

Second time we have used the new heater, the fan doesn't work, but did start randomly during the day when the fire was not burning. How do we bypass the electronics?

How do I get the fire to bank down when we close it up it’s no different from being open it just constantly roars??? Having to continually put more wood on it to keep it going. Anyone have any ideals???

Hi, I must say that whilst I think this heater is terrible and a complete waste of money, it does change from high to low pretty well. It will burn slowly all night. All I can think of is that the bar that opens and closes has moved from its proper position and is not closing the air holes correctly. Try and check to see what happens as you slide the air intake open and closed. Hope this helps.
