Not built to last
My first ever Sharp Microwave was great and lasted many years. This Model however had the light fail after a year then the unit blew it’s fuse due to an internal fault just shy of 2 years. Not good enough for the price paid, I’m not buying a Sharp again.

Yet another case of the light failing just after the warranty period ended. Oven still works but cannot see the cooking progress in the darkness. No more Sharp products for me.

Another lemon?
I am on my third Sharp microwave, similar size and facilities, in not much more than three years. On two previous occasions it was replaced by Product Care through Harvey Norman. I have not been happy with current model and after reading other reviews I am finding similar complaints. This one was ‘purchased’ October 2022. The light has started flickering, I don’t like the extended cool down fan operation, or the build up of condensation in the oven when cooking for any length of time other than reheating and I am convinced that its heating/...Read more
cooking is not as efficient as the oven it replaced. Food takes longer to heat than before eg cup of milk now 2:20 not 2:00 minutes as before. The defrosting pre program is, as stated by other reviewers not intuitive at all or easy to use.Purchased in October 2021 at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances.

Pretty average. Light started flickering 2 days before warranty expired.
We chose this particular microwave as it was the closest fit for our cavity. I thought a Sharp would be a pretty good brand. It has been ok, operation is not very intuitive. Whenever the light is supposed to be on, it strobes constantly, I almost wish it would stop working altogether. Started just before the warranty ended, but didnt realise this until several weeks later. Very frustrating.

Disappointing purchase - light doesn’t work and clock runs fast.
I have found this post after searching for a clue as to how to replace the bulb in this microwave which started flickering and then died a month ago. Sounds complicated.
The clock also runs fast - it worked at the start but I thought I was losing it when I was using it to check my time to leave for work.
Very sad to say this will be my last sharp microwave and I’ve been using this brand for over 30years.
The defrost and soften options are too limiting.
I bought this thinking we would have a great and long lasting purchase.........
How Sharp standards have dropped!!!

Good microwave
Like the options it provides and the design is sleek and blends in well with other appliances in my kitchen. Easy to clean. Only downside is the defrosting option - it will only sensor defrost meat if I put in at least 500g and unless I'm standing next to it to press start again, it will come up as an error. This can be frustrating when it has 'sensed' the weight and type of meat but will not defrost fully without a couple of attempts.

Light Failed... like a lot of other people's experience - 6 days after warranty expiry.
Ok, so I've had the same Sharp Convection microwave for years... when I say years I mean something like 30 years. It was made in Japan and weighed a tonne. It still works fine today, but the door seal has begun to fail and fall apart. If only the parts were still available today.
I figured I'd stay with Sharp given that experience and went to my local GoodGuys and found the R396EST. The guy in the shop gave it a glowing review so I went ahead with the purchase (actually purchased it though their ebay store).
On unpacking it I was surprised at h...Read more

be honest, I can't see how a consumer guarantee could have been breached in relation to the light that is not accessible, but to be sure, I'd need to go search the T&C's to find out the conditions and definitions of what could be deemed/determined to be a "breach". I think I'll be putting this purchase down to being an "experience" and just move on. Life to just to short the being bent out of shape about these things... and too short to spending time going back and forth to a repair center. I would like to say a thank you to Sharp for at least backing their product out of the Warranty period and appreciate that there would need to be a Term for consumer guarantee breach. Absolute disgusting service
Purchased new Sharp - 395 E Inverter microwave late july 2018. within 12 months we have had to take it back twice to their registered repairer - "ASA Appliance service in Greenwood WA" - to have the internal globe replaced which is essential for safe use of microwave. on registering complaint with Sharp customer care their response was despite several emails and advice from their registered repairer confirming the issue the customer care centre then totally ignored our emails by instructing us to take it back to the retailer (Harvey Norman Osb...Read more

The Sharp customer care centre have totally ignored my disgust at not recognising the issue with their LED light in this inverter model despite their local registered repairer as mentioned above already identifying the fault. suggest other consumers to not buy a Sharp Microwave as the Customer Care response centre is totally disfunctional and non responsive to a real issue.Purchased in July 2021 at Harvey Norman Online for A$300.00.

We're Sharp fans, but with reservations
Our previous Sharp microwave died after around 10 years, so we're pretty happy with the brand. The think we always disliked about it was the long cooling cycle.
After researching our replacement, we had to buy basically the same microwave. We knew it would most likely have the same annoying characteristic, namely whether an item was heated for 5 seconds or 5 minutes, there always followed at least 30 seconds of cooling off. Since not every microwave oven requires this, it seems Sharp could build into the logic an appropriate cooling down cyc...Read more

Avoid this unit - ruins Sharp's reputation for making quality microwaves.
Overall, pretty unhappy with this unit. Just today the light started flickering as is the case with many users. I have a week left on the warranty, so I suppose this is fortunate - just not looking forward to it happening again in 6 months (which other users are reporting).
There are other problems however:
1 - Despite it's attempt at a good aesthetic design, the door is misaligned from the housing.
2 - The clock runs very fast - I don't even bother setting it anymore.
3 - When cooking anything for any length of time, the door panel fills up ...Read more

Not Happy.
Like other posts here, the globe has gone a little after the warranty has expired, and I now discover it's not meant to be user replaceable.
That seems like a highly dubious design choice to me.
The microwave works fine, but it's working in the dark.

FAULTY LIGHT - DO NOT BUY
I bought a microwave and the light blew after 5 months. I got a replacement, and the same thing happened within 6 months. It is a design fault. They are no longer using incandescent lights which would last years. Sharp are trying to reduce energy consumption with new electronic low energy circuit lights which have a short life span. I was advised in store that Sharp know about it and are trying to rectify. I asked if I could return the microwave given it was twice in 12 months, and Sharp have said NO. The warranty is only 12 months, so b...Read more
e warned, if you buy this microwave, based on my experience, you may be visiting the service centre every 6 months, and having to pay for the replacement bulb after the the 12 month warranty runs out. Very disappointed in Sharp, having been an avid user for over 30 years. Customer Care response was a definite no you can't return. Go to service centre - and it will take 2-4 weeks to repair. Not a satisfactory solution given it has happened twice now in 12 months and I have been to the service centre twice now (once it was closed during trading hours for some reason, once the guy helped, but couldn't guarantee the same thing won't happen again in 5-6 months, and I will have to pay next time for the repair).Purchased in January 2021 at good guys for A$249.00.

If you are thinking of replacing your old Sharp with this, don't.
Another example of designers outsmarting themselves in the never ending battle to outdo the competitors. Lots of really clever ideas that don't work. Forget about the 'smart' defrost, unless you think 'defrost' means block of ice. The weight parameters for defrost are just plain silly. 'Sensor' rice cooking? What's wrong with 3 min high; 12 min low. The clock is unreliable. The globe lasted 6 months and apparently the microwave should be returned to a service centre for a replacement globe to be fitted (under warranty presumably, but the warranty won't cover the cost of transporting to and from). My previous Sharp Carousel microwave lasted for years and was perfectly good. I'm sorry now that I replaced it.

Not fit for purpose
If, as I do, the main function used on a microwave is 'smart' defrosting then this product is useless.
You cannot set the weight for any meat defrost to less than 500 grams. Useless for most couples nowadays. Fish is even worse. If you fillets don't weight exactly 500gm you cannot defrost them

Dreadful Disappointment
This machine was a warranty replacement after my previous Sharp gave up the ghost in less than a year. First problem I encountered was that it was a different size and I'd purchased a trim kit with the previous model and had that built into my new kitchen. Sharp were excellent to deal with regarding this and refunded the cost of the trim kit. Unfortunately the new machine does not have a trim kit so I'm now left with a gaping hole above the oven. Now this new machine (6 months old) has blown a bulb and has to go to the service centre for re...Read more

Design Faults
I purchased this microwave 2 weeks ago to replace a 7 year old Panasonic that died all of a sudden. Rather than purchase another Panasonic, I decided on the new Sharp model as it looked like it would fit into our décor a bit better and had a good feature set. While the microwave function has worked as expected, like the previous reviewer, the clock on the unit runs fast, gaining about 22 seconds a day. Although I could reset the clock each week, in this day and age, accuracy like this is not acceptable. To make matters worse, the clock on th...Read more
e microwave is the only clock we have in the kitchen. After I discovered the problem, I searched the internet to see if there was a fix, or if others had reported the same issue. I should have done the search before I purchased the microwave, as I found several reviews reporting the same issue. After reading the review submitted by 'Not Great', and his praise for Sharp customer support, I decided to give them a ring to see if there was a fix available. Unfortunately I did not get the fantastic service that 'Not Great' received. Initially I was informed the instructions for setting the clock were in the user manual. When I eventually managed to get the support person to understand the clock was running fast, I was informed I would have to take the microwave to an authorised Sharp repair centre. When I informed the lady that this was not acceptable, as the microwave was only one week old, I was told I would have to make a warrantee claim. To make this claim, I was told to email a photo of the receipt and the photo of the serial number inside the microwave to customer care. I was given an email address to send the information to, and it was sent as requested. Unfortunately this is the last I heard from Sharp. (Maybe they’re busy?) I'll give them until the end of the week and if I don’t hear from them, I'll be returning the microwave to the store for a refund. While the basic functionality of this model works well, and the unit looks great, if the clock feature is important to you, do not buy this microwave. I think I should have stuck with Panasonic.2 comments

After waiting another week, I had not received any contact from Sharp. I contacted them by phone and quoted the reference number they originally provided me. Sharp were not able to offer an explanation as to why I had not received a phone call as promised. They informed me to just return the microwave to Harvey Norman and they would give me a refund. I was informed that there was no point in exchanging the unit for another of the same model, as it would have the same problem. I asked if this was a common fault and I was informed that it was not a fault with the microwave, but with my power supply??? I was also informed that others had reported the same issue. As I was concerned about the statement regarding my power supply, I contacted EVO Energy (formally ACTEW) and advised them of the conversation I had with Sharp regarding my power supply. While being sceptical, they sent a technician to my house an installed monitoring equipment on my power box to check for problems. This equipment was left installed for 8 days. To cut a long story short, they found no problems. As per the advice from Sharp, I returned the microwave to Harvey Norman who were VERY helpful. They refunded the purchase price for the Sharp Microwave and I purchased one of the models from a competitor (Panasonic). The New Panasonic is working fine and the clock keeps perfect time. All this for a microwave oven! Problem solved. PS. It was a shame about the Sharp microwave, as apart from the clock issue, it appeared to be a nice unit.Similar opinion? I purchased the microwave (SHARP R395EST) and intitially was very happy as it looked great and ran well.
After a week I noticed the clock had sped up.. maybe 5 mins.. I re-set it, thinking I had set it wrong to start with, however a week later the same thing, it had sped up maybe 5 mins or so. I called Sharp and they said they have had one back with the same issue and they sent it to a service centre who determined the product was fine as that the issue with the clock not keeping time must be to do with the power supply to the house..
