Just out of warranty now not working.
We purchased the R995DW convection microwave 13 months ago it is a month out of warranty and from last night it does not work. After paying over $800 dollars for this product you would have thought it would have lasted longer than this.
Purchased in February 2021 at Harvey Norman for A$850.00.

Sharp are not what they used to be.
We have used Sharp convection microwave ovens for many years. Our first lasted for over 15 years before it was time to renew. Made in Japan, they were reliable and the convection function the best in the market. To the point where most of our cooking could be done in the one oven. Then something changed. When we updated to the new model, we noticed early on that the build quality wasn't the same. Sure, changing the door mechanism to side opening instead of the original drop down door was an improvement, but the microwave just seemed 'tinny'. I ...Read more
was told that Sharp have moved manufacturing to SE Asia. Within the first 12 months warranty repairs were needed twice, apparently due to a faulty drive motor seal that prevents overheating. Once out of warranty, the Sharp finally died after around 2 years, for a machine costing $890, not good enough I'd say. Believing 'third time lucky', we bought the newest Sharp convection microwave albeit the smaller R995DW. At $770, it is significantly cheaper than the nearest rival offering a convection feature (Panasonic). If we thought build quality could be any worse than the previous model, we were wrong. The microwave is shoddily built and menus programming overly fiddly. Why the need to change from the previous simple to use menu options is beyond me. 10 months have now past and the R995DW has been returned under warranty. This machine actually trips the household safety switch when the door is opened after convection pre-heating. In other words, the microwave is unsafe to use. This will be the last Sharp we purchase. Sharp was once a proud name in quality post-war Japanese electronics, alas no more. We love the flexibilty and convenience of convection microwave cooking and our next purchase will probably be a Panasonic which although more expensive, are still made in Japan.Purchased in July 2021 at Harvey Norman for A$770.00.

Not as good as previous Model
This is my 4th Sharp Convection Microwave in 30 years. They are amazing, reliable and l wouldn't be without one. And whilst this oven cooks and works well l must say the "updated" changes are definitely not all for the best. I still would recommend it but just a few gripes here. Firstly the reduction in size is the biggest issue of all. The wire plate rack which has always been great for heating 2 dinner plates at once is still there but becuase of the smaller oven size you can't put a plat at the bottom unless you take out the rack....CRAZY!!!...Read more
Secondly the smaller size means many square/rectangle casserole dishes no longer fit in for Microwave or Mix/Bake. Some of my most favourite recipes that l learnt at the cooking class given with my first machine can no longer be made in the smaller oven. Finally whilst the new ceramic white turntable looks very nice and is easy to clean, every drop of food turns into an unsightly black stain which means wiping it out EVERY use. The one positive is the slide in baking trays. These make the oven usable with some of the large dishes, but sadly just on the Convection mode. Wish that Sharp would supply "Non Arcing" trays so that l could use some of my larger casserole dishes (as described above) in Microwave & Mix/Bake mode.
Purchased in January 2021 for A$1,099.00.

We were the happy owners of a sharp convection microwave for almost 20 years . I purchased a new sharp R995DW convection., but after just 4 months the new machine died completely so I returned it to the sharp service provider for repair. After waiting 3 weeks I have been told to be patient as parts are unavailable. I am starting to get really tired of barbeques and thinking that my purchase was a BIG MISTAKE. Any new barbeque recipes or suggestions would be gratefully received. Bob

Performed Well So Far
Bought it so we don't have to use a 900 (90cm) for things like pies, sausage rolls and small volume Items.
Cakes have been excellent, Pork roast and chicken we need to have a play more to get it right as with the chips.
Shame it didn't come with some round oven/microwave glass dishes.
My Sharp microwave R350EW is a HUGE problem though as Sharp still haven't delivered it to RT EDWARDS even when it was ordered in store at the same time, 3 weeks so far.
RT Edwards did a great deal on the items while Harvey Norman Logan home Hyperdome were charging the Stainless steel price for the white one and very poor customers service :(

Works like a dream
Last year I had brought my Sharp Convection R995DW from Harvey Normans. I find with many microwave,. that their rated microwave power is very iffy, not with this one, the microwave power you get, is what they tell you. This one is like an oven, as you get 2 black grill trays that can be slide in and out, and use it like a normal oven and grill, it also comes with the metal racks that other convection ones come with, plus a microwave mwtal turn table, rather than a glass one. I have had ones with the glass ones in the past, and find that mos...Read more
t were absolute hopeless at cooking on convection. I do not use my oven, I only use my microwave and stove top plates, it means I do not have a larger area to preheat, which means I use less energy, which in the long run is better in my pocket, because less energy means less power, cuts power bill down. I have used other sharp high end convection ovens as well, they work way better than the others1 comment

Convection oven part is not very hot
I used to have the Sharp Carousel microwave convection grill oven which was mid-size. When it died after 13 years, I wanted to stick with Sharp because my old one was really good but I wanted a larger one. So, I bought the Sharp R995DW. The convection oven part is not very hot. I noticed this when I oven baking the same amount of french fries that I usually do at the same temperature, same time and same brand of chips. Before, microwaving them for 1 min 30 seconds followed by preheating and 10 mins at 200 centigrade used to get them really crunchy. With the new Sharp R995DW, the chips are not crunchy even at 220 centigrade. I suggest that others stick to a mid-size convection grill microwave and find one with much better reviews.

I bought a R995DW from Bing Lee and once I set it up at home I discovered that the green digital display was very dark and hard to read. I looked on Sharps web site to see that the picture of the R995DW has an easy to read green display.
I then returned R995DW back to Bing Lee who gave me a refund, saying that all of their R995DW microwaves also have dark and hard to read green digital display.
I recently looked at buying a factory seconds R995DW that also had dark hard to read green display.
I am still interested in buying an R995DW is there any way of increasing the brightens of the green digital display?
