Not suitable for harsh Australian sun
Have 250m2 deck. Sikkens cost over $1000 for initial treatment. Now have over 10 years experience with this rubbish. Most expensive mistake ever. You are locked in as nothing else will over coat it. Takes a long time to dry. Started to peel off after 6 months despite following instructions as best possible. In shade areas it is OK but not in the sun. Must be designed for colder climates use only.
Instructions state to weather deck for 6 months and then sand it back. We use dome head deck nails in QLD so you cannot sand them off. Read their ins...
Purchased for $1,000.

Love this product
Easier to use and my deck looks as good as first day it was built. I have used this product before and it never disappoints. Salesperson was friendly and helpful, brightened my day.
Purchased in December 2020 for $199.

I switeched from Sikkens to Cutek
I've used Sikkens for my deck in the past and will still use their product for the outside of my cedar clad house but Cutek was a revelation.
I'm a civil engineer, and we have to compare everything before we are happy - so with Cutek I'm sold.
My 30 year experienced builder saw the end result on the new deck we built together and he's sold too. He was an intergrain or Sikkens fan prior to seeing Cutek.
One of the benefits of Cutek was that I didn't need to remove the oils before applying. And when you think about it the oils play a big part...
Purchased in November 2022 at Hardware & General.

Beautiful finish but needs care
I have been using this product for 12 years. Do the prep work as per instructions for best results.
We need to re-coat every 6-12 months where timber is exposed to full sun.
Purchased in September 2022 for $219.

Very ordinary
This product is way overpriced and over rated.Slip resistant for a very short time but after normal wear for about a week/ fortnight it loses its non slip.At about $45/litre it is not worth it. Adds a yellowish colour, not transparent as it states and in non wearing areas of the deck there is a build up of unsightly stain.Takes 24 hours to dry which is a pain if you need to use the deck.Trying to remove it to renovate your deck is another matter...it is a nightmare to remove. If you want to use sikkens..just use the cetol, without the slip resiatant.
Purchased in September 2018 for $45.
Questions & Answers
Hi, I’m error I bought the oil bases 085 Teak Stain, instead of water based. The painter applied 2 coats of the water based ( left over from initial purchase) but it’s come up patchy and lighter in some areas, is it Ok to use oil based to go over the water based product to try and even out tone?
I had my merbau deck fully sanded one year ago. It has faded somewhat and looks dry and no more water beading in exposed areas. It had one Sikkens HLS undercoat and 2 Sikkens Deck top coats. Can i just wash, clean, dry and reapply the deck coat without sanding and will it work ok on some parts of the deck which have not been as exposed to the sunlight and deterioration. I have another deck and did similar. It is around a saltwater chlorinated pool. Does pool water affect the life as it is looking poorly after 6 months.
Yes you can power wash or use the hose on jet mode. Apply deck clean product with a scouring sponge or scrubbing brush. This removes mildew spores. Rinse off. When dry apply 2 top coats. For the perfe...
Read morect finish I lightly sand the deck with a fine sand paper before applying top coats. You only need to fully sand your deck back to the original timber when coats are patchy and timber is dry and grey.I’m after an oil that will still let my mer bay deck grey off
Have you tried straight "Linseed Oil" or if it stays sticky in cold weather (depends where you are try some turps in the oil.
