Gas knobs not locking in.
Have purchased 4 smeg ovens in the past and have been quite happy with three of them with rubber seals being the only issue. However, the above model appears not to match the quality for which Smeg is known for. Our oven has been exchanged before for a new one! Gas knobs do not allow gas to stay on and the oven is not doing what it's designed to do.

ittle bulb hook connection but for him is so easy looks as he know what to do. So general I m happy. Their service is fast and reliable. I will try the oven see how is it. My old appartments Smeg oven is till work and at least it is over 10 years old. The scale is off but after a sticker from Smeg it s not an issue any more. I read some reviews I do notice Smeg make different versions for Harvey Norman and Bing Lee . I prefer bin Lee as I found some function they made for Harvey Norman like the Tapanyaki tray don't have good reviews here.1 comment
After one year I wrote my review, I so far only used 5 times of the oven and now it is totally dead and I will have to ring service Monday and I will update with you this time my experience.

Unhappy
Yes I am happy with the way my food is cooked, but not happy with the many incidences of break downs. In 4 years we have had to replace the elements many times and the fans and the lights....all are quite expensive and most inconvenient. At present we are waiting for a service person to come and replace both elements...blown and tripped the meter. I thought I was buying the oven of my dreams after years of baking in a small cheap oven....however I am disappointed and certainly would not recommend, or purchase again, SMEG

. I am unhappy as I said in my review basically because the elements have been replaced several times, as well fans and lights. My husband has to fix the seal on the oven door at irregular intervals. The clips holding the kick board have both broken. And the oven light (when they work) only comes on when I open the door, which is a great shame, as I cant see my baking without opening the door. So I'd have to say all in all I am disappointed in my SMEG oven. The gas top however is great and I love it....

faulty product and lack of service!
My only requirement when I purchased an oven was that it wasn't super hot to touch. Nothing else. It was sold to me as a "cool to touch" oven. Something that SMEG prides themselves on. I have a toddler and a baby on the way so this was a huge deal to me.
After having my oven delivered and installed, the oven did not work at all. Then I have to get SMEG out to look at it and the wiring was lose. This was fixed and the tech left. I did also get reassured them at the oven would not be hot to touch. Apart from what's normal which apparently is no...Read more

Great service, great appliance
Some of the LED light components on the timer / programmer of my SMEG oven "broke" i.e the time did not display properly. I emailed Steve Cullen at SMEG 10 days ago and this morning a technician repaired the lights under warranty even though the appliance is three years old. Apart from this I love this oven: reliable every time and it looks good. Would highly recommend it.

Needs Constant Maintenance
Our smeg freestanding is only about 5 years old and within that time it has been repaired at least 4 times. Additionally, rubber seals will not stay on (had them replaced three times) so oven can never maintain a constant temp with moisture from oven seeping out into surrounding cupboards and creating issues with custom made kitchen. Overall would not recommend. For price am sure there is better value elsewhere - paying for a name that is no longer a bespoke product.

Gas cooktop working but oven not working at all!
We purchased this oven only a couple of months ago for our new house we are building. Were totally upset to find that the oven on this dual fuel cooktop does not work at all. I have been unable to use it and am very disappointed that we went with this "high quality" product with the expensive price tag. Wish I had have chosen the cheaper Westinghouse now...

Doesn't live up to expectations
Has always taken ages to heat up but i am gappy with the space in it and the rotisserie feature. The oven is now not getting up to above around 150 degrees celcius after over an hour of heating. I have tried to contact smeg directly but they weren't really much help. The oven us only 3 years old, pretty dissapointed that i will have to pay $300+ quoted to fix what the engineer thinks is a broken element. Should not happen in such a high spec oven we paid $3000 for such a short time ago. Seems to be happening a lot in these ovens if you read previous reviews.

Long time to heat up
For the second time in 5 years my oven is taking an extremely long time to heat up - today 45 mins to get to 150 deg Celsius. Last time i had to pay to get it fixed. Would not recommend to anyone. Paid $2995 as thought it was good quality brand. Very disappointed.

Won't buy Smeg again
Less than 3 years ago we remodeled our kitchen and purchased a new C9GMXA oven and a PUM90X undermounted rangehood from Smeg. Within a few months the LED lighting on the rangehood stopped working and the fan wasn't switching off (needed to be switched off manually at the mains). A technician came out and fixed it, but same thing happened again and the entire rangehood needed to be replaced. Now my oven has stopped heating (fan still works, but won't heat up) and according to the Smeg repairer I'll need to spend close to $500 to get it working ...Read more
again. That's 2 out 2 Smeg appliances with problems in less than 3 years. Mind you, all the other appliances I bought (from other brands LG and Bosch have been problem free). I thought Smeg was a quality brand. After all the money we spent I wouldn't purchase Smeg again- not worth it. Also, rangehood is so loud, sounds like you're in a wind tunnel- kids can't even watch TV in the next room whilst we're using it.1 comment

Happy Chappy
Great oven, have been using it flat out for 3 years now. We chose the oven because it was the largest oven on the market. It gets used everyday as my wife loves to bake. We also found it very handy for the numerous parties we've hosted at home as the capacity allowed us to store multiple trays inside. It has an even distribution of heat and cooks the best roasts.
One thing to comment on is that the led light broke about 6 months after purchase so you can't read the time on the oven. It's a bit annoying but what can you do, other than going out a buying a new display. If anyone knows where i can get the part I may be able to fit it myself.

Would love to review but it dosnt work at all
I had my new freestanding oven installed on Saturday, after four hours our electrician declared the oven was faulty. We rang the contracted service provider at nine on Monday morning to be told we were lucky and they had a free spot on Wednesday...and they couldn't tell me a time. So we have spent close to $4000 to have no oven for at least five days and will loose a days wages to wait for a tradesperson. They diagnosed a faulty clock over the phone and are going to replace it....so I am gathering this is a normal issue. Not impressed! Emailed Smeg Australia ...no reply as yet.

OK but nothing special
OK but nothing special - Stove top cooker is good, but not enough heat in the wok burner for true Asian cooking.
Bought the SMEG C9GMXA 90 cm free standing cooker 3 years ago and was very excited ! But was a little disappointed to find that the oven light would only work intermittently. A few weeks later had a repairer come (under warranty). When the issue continued to occur they suggested, it was a pinched cable, and to slam the oven door a couple of times to get it working, which it did for a few months. So we used the oven without a light.
After about 3 years the oven wouldn't heat up and had to be repaired. Took forever, and multiple attempts, to get through to the local authorised SMEG repairer to book a repair date.

Am so disappointed oven is not even 5 years old. It has been losing heat over time and now is not heating. This was 4000 however i did receive a discount for this, it included rangehood and at that price would expect to last longer. Now have to get service out at 143 call out fee which includes first 10 minutes and 16.50 for every 10 minutes after that. Disappointing
We purchased our new Smeg oven 5 years ago when we refitted our kitchen, The element went within the 24 mth warranty period and was replaced. Over the next three years we have had 1 x fan motor go and 2 further elements and a PCboard, at a cost of over $1000.00. Nice looking oven but quality and reliability is just not there.

Do not buy Smeg upright
Smeg upright 60cm purchased Harvey Norman Bathurst 2012. Continual failures of gas supply due to faulty safety mechanisms. Relays replaced. Still hopeless. Oven heat melted the computer buttons! I will be buying a simple Australian made all gas, separate griller, no bells no whistles. Smeg will be going to the tip. Conscience wouldn't allow me to try to sell it.

Too hot!
I have read the above reviews and nobody has mentioned the huge -and I mean HUGE-amount of heat that comes out the top of the door when the fan is on in the oven. I have had a serviceman come and look at it and he said 'its a big oven' and that it was normal. I avoid using the oven during the day now that the summer has arrived and at night have to put the overhead exhaust fan on in the range hood to reduce the heating of the kitchen. Surely this is not normal.

The honest truth
Please let me tell you the truth about SMEG appliances. They have a very short life and are quite honestly sub-par for everything aside looks. We have a combination oven / hob with two major flaws.
1: The handle for the oven and the dials above it are made from the most heat-conductive metal known to man. They look great, but after cooking a roast- touching the handle or door is like touching a hot pan. Seriously I can't understand why they've designed it like this. oven gloves must be used just to adjust the oven temperature! 2: The symbol...Read more
s above said oven dials were cheaply printed on and have rubbed off! We've had to memorise settings for grill, oven, fan oven etc which is a massive pain. Huge design flaw. Don't get me started on our dishwasher. We don't bother with it anymore. I've had dishwashers in the past that I've admittedly overloaded after a dinner party etc. The result? Dishes not washed properly... Fair enough. However with our SMEG dishwasher, the slightest obstruction o the washer arm (I'm talking the arm rotating whilst gently grazing the top of plates) will cause the dishwasher to not finish it's cycle, carry on all night and flood the kitchen floor. It happened twice before we found ourselves spending more time carefully loading the dishwasher than we'd actually spend washing up. Waste of time and money! avoid! Looks Actual design is poor.1 comment

Gas issues on stove top
İ've had my Smeg upright since 2011. 3 months into using it foun the stove top occassionally not starting. The for hours İnhadn't been able to use the stove. When the servixeman came it started and he responded ' these things can happen. No proper checking. Last week,İ used the oven, then tried to use the stove Saturday morning for breakfast... İt woukdn't start till Sunday morning. Same thing occurred one week later, Friday the oven was used, then the stove stopped working from Friday night going through Christmas and the serviceman can only come Friday after Christmas. Great! Pathetic if you ask me. İ got mine from Harvey Norman maribyrnong... At cost... Should have gone ilve.
Gas stove, no gas coming through every time the oven is used.

It's not your oven that is at fault - it's due to a low pressure gas supply. - i had this same issue with our previous upright cooker which was a lesser quality unit made by nobel. The oven worked sur... Read more
prisingly well considering the cheap price and the gas cooktop worked fine for about 5 months. Same problem as you had - wouldn't ignite - no gas. We thought it was the flame fail feature cutting in. Not worth fixing so we did some research and chose a smeg. It got delivered however prior to arranging installation the gas company undertook a high pressure line upgrade to our street and the surrounding area. That fixed the cooktop issue with the nobel and we have been informed by 3 plumbers that this is common as some suburbs just run the old lines and restrictive meters. Eventually we had the smeg installed and sold off the old nobel in a garage sale. What a beautiful unit this smeg is. Not enough room here to rave about it but believe me it is good and makes all types of cooking a joy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The clock panel on my Smeg Oven C9GMXA is flashing and I cannot operate the oven. Stove is working fine (it’s gas). Any ideas on how to fix without getting someone out?

Lesley R.Smeg
Hi Ros
The oven will not work if the clock is flashing, to stop it from flashing push in buttons two and three at the same time, this will stop the flashing and then by pressing the plus or minus button you can set the time.
Thanks Lesley. I’ve come across that issue before and have been able to fix it as you described. The problem I am experiencing now is different- it’s a quicker flash and not able to be fixed by pushing the buttons. I’ve also tried turning on and off at the mains. Any more help would be greatly appreciated!
