Looks so good and I can’t stop thinking of it
I have just one question. How long will it last if I made around 3 cups a day. Does it have to be replaced yearly or is it going to work perfect for a few years?

Bad decision I made. Do nor buy this.
Confusing to operate. Buttons flashing. Difficult to make multiple serves. Steam wand is too short. Too much froth. Had a Breville and Sunbeam over the years and both of them were much better. Platform for the cups is too small, even espresso cups barely fit. The only thing going for it is it looks nice. A good decoration with poor performance.

Don't buy one. It will last forever because I prefer to have instant than deal with the temperamental design.
Have to turn it of and on between functions. Takes up to 20 min to make 1 coffee. Doesn't blow through the coffee unless it's really lose, the wand is to short. Can't seem to warm it up prior, so often pumps hot water everywhere. Completely ignors push button requests. All buttons dumbly fash so you don't even know if pushing the button has worked. Seriously I've had 3 $100 sspecials all heaps better and all got heaps of use.

Love my machine!
Love my Smeg coffee machine. It is needing to be descaled more often as it gets older, but we have had it for over 3 years now. So simply to use and looks great on the bench. Highly recommend.

Dont waste your money
Disappointing Smeg, this machine is made of plastic, it is annoying to clean with small groves everywhere. You can not use the frother without going through whole process of making a coffee which is annoying if making hot chocolates at same time as a coffee. You have to switch machine off and start again each coffee. The frother is short and makes it awkward to hold jug. There are superior products out there for similar price. This machine actually takes away any enjoyment from my morning coffee

Can't live without it!!
I have now purchased the 1950's style blender, mixmaster, 4 slice toaster, kettle and of course the coffee machine. We purchase merlo coffee online but for some reason it no longer pumps the coffee through. I have even tried soaking the filters in straight descaling solution and also tried vinegar. I've have only had it about 12 months and it's driving me insane as we no longer drink instant coffee.. I'd like to think they last longer than a year!!
Purchased at David Jones Online Store.

Milk frother appears not to work
It appears that we may have to return our machine. Every time we try to froth milk, steam comes out but then hot water spurts our intermittently, this means we end up with horrible watery coffee every time. No pattern to this it just has a mind of its own.

Good machine - poor SMEG service
I’m a big fan of the machine, I think it makes excellent coffee time and time again. I have a decent non-SMEG grinder though so that probably helps. I agree with some of the comments about the milk steamer but I don’t think that’s a huge issue.
I am totally unimpressed with the SMEG promotions system though. I purchased my machine with the promise of a free milk jug and knock box. It’s now been 2 months and it hasn’t been delivered. In this day and age I don’t think that’s acceptable.

Great coffee with limitations
This machine produces great coffee with a strong crema. The water tank size holds atleast a litre so you’re not having to fill it up all the time. The machine looks great sitting on the bench and receives many positive comments.
The negatives:
- The steam wand is very short. Make sure you only buy a small milk jug (I think mine is a 400ml capacity) or the wand won’t reach the milk.
- A normal size cup won’t fit under the group unless you remove the base. Even with the base removed, my 16oz keep cup won’t fit unless I put it on an angle...Read more
which means I have to stand there and hold it. - Sometimes, it can be a struggle to get the group back in. I have to run a cycle of hot water before it’ll slot back in. I got mine half price which is good because I don’t think it’s worth the full RRP. Good machine, but better ones out there for that price point.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Surprised!
After researching coffe machines, I decided on a Smeg. I have never previously had a coffee machine, and needed one that was uncomplicated/easy clean. Being a novice it took a little while to familiarise myself with the process of making coffee. I am not disappointed with the coffee. It is wonderful! The temp, quality etc. I love it! The only thing I found a bit difficult was the instruction manual (being a novice) it took me a while to figure it out. I also need to purchase descaler and so far have been unsuccessful. ? LOVE this machine!

Hi Dee,
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you're enjoying your Smeg coffee machine. You should be able to get the descaler from the supermarket or Bunnings. We recommend one by Hillmark.

Daily essential!
Absolutely love this machine. We’ve had it for a fortnight and have used it daily. It’s exactly the same every day, very easy to use and clean and I’ve never had a machine extract so thoroughly the grounds are practically dry afterwards. I haven’t tried using the pods that can be used with it but I’m sure they’re fabulous too

Love love love love this coffee machine!
Wasn’t sure at first how it would work as it was much cheaper than any coffee machine I’d had before but it keeps up!

Does the same job as a machine twice as large
Brilliant machine. Compact, stylish, never burns the coffee. Had a few issues tweaking it at first, so i emailed support and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Once I worked out where I was going wrong (operator error), it hasn’t skipped a beat. Have had it for 6 months, it does anywhere from 2-6 coffees per day and it is going strong. The small water reservoir is the only drawback, but now I use hot tap water to warm my cup, then tip it into the back before I make the coffee and that extends the time between fills.
I have the sunbeam grind fresh, and we prefer the #10 grind for use in this machine. I have had better success and nicer coffee if I don’t tamp it too hard.

4 month review
At this stage I'm happy with this Smeg in its ease of use, cleaning and the quality of the coffee. I don't use the milk heating function so can't comment on how that works. A good point about it is it has a small footprint in comparison to competitors of a similar quality and as such takes up a minimal area. It appears to be of a solid construction and doesn't move around much when loading given its size. No complaints at this time

Great coffee machine
Purchased the Smeg machine after repeated issues with boilers failing on Sunbeam product, super happy after one year, no problems makes a great coffee with excellent crema for the short black drinkers, did take a little getting used to milk frother as arm is quite short, so we went to a smaller jug, looks great, works great and no break downs 1 year of solid use

Good looking machine
Surprised that it was mostly made of plastic, it makes a great coffee though. Coming from using pod machines this is a little harder to get used to. Cleaning up is a pain, as is the very short milk frothing piece off to the side. For the price it’s a decent machine

Excellent coffee but has a few quirks
Makes rich, delicious coffee and it looks beautiful on my worktop. However the descaling light flashes permanently, no matter how much I flush it through. Also the front base that holds cups is a little strange, as it is loose and often comes away unexpectedly - I just leave this part off as it’s not really necessary.

Loving it
Used to spend $4 a day on coffee and not anymore. This machine is great, it makes great espresso brew. I can use any coffee blend from local roasters, what a nice way to wake up to. The only thing that isn't too great is the portafilter is way too big, doesn't quite fit my coffee grinder.

Great machine at a good price
After quite a bit of research I settled on this machine as it consistently scored well in online reviews - and I'm glad I did. As someone who buys 1-2 take away coffees every day, my main motivation for buying a coffee machine was to save money and reduce environmental waste. However, I was concerned about whether a home machine at this price point would would satisfy my taste requirements (having been spoiled by good baristas for many years!). Suffice to say, after my first trial making a latte today (with freshly ground quality beans), I'm no...Read more
t disappointed. It produced a nicely balanced espresso with decent crema and well textured milk from the steam wand. Oh, and it looks pretty beautiful, too! You can adjust the machine to suit your tastes (e.g. volume of coffee extracted, temperature etc), so if you do purchase this machine, make sure you take some time to learn about the settings that match your tastes best, to get the best cup out of it!Similar opinion? Questions & Answers
Hwr202asked
The water runs through my machine fine and I’ve descaled it and cleaned the filter. However, when I press the double cup button the water stops flowing sooner than it should, putting out only half the amount expected. This is a sudden and new fault. The single cup button appears to put out the correct amount. Smeg’s response was that the machine is irreparable and should be just thrown away but this seems too extreme for a machine which mostly works fine. Please advise?

Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Hwr202,
There isn't a fault with your machine. You will need to reprogram the amount of water for the 2 cup button. To do this, place the cup/cups under the spout. Press and hold down the 2 cup button and only release it once you have the correct amount of water in the cups. The new amount of water is now memorised.

Victor McGowanasked
Hi,
The machine works fine when I make a coffee and then press the steamer button to froth the milk. However after I use the steamer for the milk, I am unable to make another coffee as the two espressos frantically blink. I can only make another coffee unless I turn the machine off and on again.
Is this a fault in the machine as I have only had it 4 weeks?
Victor

Hi Victor - refer to page 7 of the manual under cleaning and care - how to cool down the boiler - this should answer your query.
Nicola1983asked
Hi there
My Smeg coffee machine is around 2 years old
The steam button regularly turns orange & I descale accordingly. However this time the steam button is flashing orange? I can’t seem to get past it, for example pressing the steam button for 10 seconds is not activating descaling as it normally does. The steam wand won’t work at all while it’s flashing, however the espresso does still pour.
Thanks in advance Nicola
