Same as others out there !
Nothing special with this unit and like many others after a time the coffee starts to taste plain and even after regular cleaned, that you MUST do every few weeks, the taste just drops off. Coffee not hot enough either.
Purchased in January 2021 for $249.00.

I trusted the reviews on this machine but I wouldn't have bought this machine had I been able to see it in a shop and play with it a bit. The first big issue is it uses a pressure basket. I didn't see this before I bought it and must have missed it in the marketing material.
The machine can make average coffee without a doubt but it's just a bit painful compared to other machines. You pay more for a different machine but you pay more for a reason.

eing small. I looked around and asked the company but one is not available unless the company are nice enough to send one. Why is this important? Because you can't polish and tamp the coffee properly and if you can't do this then getting a predictable brew is rather difficult. The baskets only fit a 14 gram dose of coffee at best. This isn't adequate for a proper double shot which is 18grams +. The steam wand is just a silly size, it means having to use odd amounts of milk just to try to get a good milk swirl going. This is a pain.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

This machine suits me perfectly, it is neat & compact, gorgeous retro styling but most of all makes
Very satisfied with the quality of coffee which is consistent, also temperature is exactly how it should be & milk frothing easy with great silky texture. Also love the retro design, very neat, doesn't take up too much bench space & very easy to clean. Overall a great little machine that is compact & reliable to produce delicious coffee.

Love it!!
Love this. Purchased the smeg after my sunbeam got a bit long in the tooth. I love the fact it can be programmed. It’s a bit difficult at first to program but once you get the hang of it it’s great.
My only gripe with this machine is the milk frothed is a bit short. Other than that it’s great. Oh and the freebie pack by redemption was a nice surprise

Beautiful coffee
Love this machine. It is stylish, very well made and easy to clean. Makes beautiful rich, full-bodied, italian style coffee - even from pre-ground coffee and ESE pods (illy). Will probably tamp coffee on weekends and just use the ESE pods on weekdays, it’s great to have that option. No more burnt bitter tasting coffee from popular pods just because it’s convenient. This machine ticks all the boxes. Many thanks!

Help please!!
Hello! I purchased this machine (RED) about 6 weeks ago now and it is a lovely looking little beastie and makes a very nice coffee! Unfortunately I am also having a problem with the ON/OFF switch being stuck in the "ON" position and initially thought it was something I would have to live with - after checking here on Product Review I see it appears to be a problem with some machines - aside from that it makes a nice coffee with an excellent crema - I purchased from Peters of Kensington (online) and unfortunately have no way of getting it back ...Read more
there as I don't drive a car and health problems - any help appreciated. I really do love the machine and SMEG products, have also bought and used your microwaves only over the past 10 years never having a problem with them and wouldn't consider another brand (hope I don't jinx myself!). I look forward to hearing from someone ... thank you ... APOLOGIES ... JUST REALISED I POSTED IN THE WRONG SECTION (should be Q&A) but it is a great little machine and would have given it 5 stars if the On/OFF button worked2 comments

Just a solid espresso maker with style
Great Crema and solid function
The quality of the coffee is determined by the type, quality, freshness of the beans- this machine performs perfectly and is a great tool to make a great tasting coffee commensurate with the quality of your beans. This machine used pressurised portafilter using E.S.E espresso pads or ground coffee and provides a far greater functionality to that of a capsule machine - the fact that it takes up so little space on my bench top and looks retro great ....is just a bonus

Great Coffee
It is easy to use and clean. The grouphead will take 13grams of ground coffee so still working on perfecting the grind as our last one took more.
There is a few options with this machine which we both like, we can set the level of coffee to suit to our taste (more or less water) and set the resulting water temperature.
My husband loves the frothing nozzle for his cappuccino.
I would recommend this machine for the options, warranty and the price.

Great machine for home use.
Makes a great coffee with a good crema on top in less than 1 minute. I make about 10-20 coffees each day. The "removable" drip tray is designed to make it easy to fit tall coffee mugs, if required. The milk frothing nozzle is simple and effective to use and even easier to clean. I love this machine and so do my neighbours who drop in for a great cup of coffee or two, EVERY day. Highly recommend for home use.

Very simple but incredibly good!
Spent a while researching coffee machines and had resigned ourselves to the fact that we'd have to fork out a lot of money (~$700+) to get something that would actually function well and not fail prematurely. Then, by chance, stumbled across the SMEG at Harvey Norman and did a bit of research on the spot. From all accounts it couldn't really be faulted so decided to give it a go, managed to get it for $418 with a 5 year warranty so couldn't really say no. I wasn't a huge fan of the aesthetic style but with that being the only apparent downside ...Read more
it was still worth it. Setup was easy, had a couple of coffies ready within minutes. It's a very simple machine however it does what needs to be done well, and less components to fail. The seal between the machine and filter holder feels strong. Several brand new machines in the shop felt as though they'd already failed but I get the impression this will last. Despite its simplicity there are some some cool programmable features to suit your tastes. Water temperature, amount of water delivered after button press, water hardness etc. I did find the adjustment process a bit complex but it's really only a once off change anyway. We are black coffee drinkers so the milk frother has been seldom used, however the few times it has been used the results have always been consistently good. No patchy half steam half water or pausing to reheat half way. The only thing I'm yet to figure out is how to switch back to regular coffee mode having just used steam mode without switching it off and back on again (in theory should just be a button press). All in all I would recommend this machine. It's been used multiple times daily for the last couple of months and I can't fault it. Only real downside if I had to have one would be the water tank capacity, which is a little on the small side. We liked it so much I got another for my parents who go through one machine a year due to various failures. Their feedback is similar to mine in that it's a consistent coffee every time, easy to use, built well etc. The aesthetic has also grown on me too, and now I quite enjoy seeing it in the kitchen where it is often complimented on its appearance!Similar opinion? Questions & Answers
Natalie Ofnerasked
We received this machine for Christmas.2019. We love it, however since we started using it the orange light, indicating that the machine needs descaling has come on 4 times (today is 1 April 2020). I have completed the descaling process 3 times, once with descaling solution about a month ago. The light came on again today. Can someone please tell me if there could be a problem or is this common. We average about 5 coffees a day. Thank you

I have the same problem and can’t find anything anywhere that may have the answer. Iv only had mine for 4 weeks
Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Natalie,
You will need to adjust the water hardness to soft and that will extend the time you will have to descale. Please refer to your instruction manual for further information.
