All the filters that came with the machine are double wall (pressurised). Is it possible to use a single wall filter? If so, what is the size of the filer I should buy?

Hi
Since the last time I descaled my machine the double setting only dispenses the same amount as the single setting?

Hi Lori,
You will need to reprogram the water amount. Place a cup under the group and press and hold the 2 cup button down. When you have the correct amount of water in the cup, release the button. The water amount is now saved. If you need additional information, please refer to your instruction manual.

How much grams of coffee does each puck hold ??
1 answer
Rodney M.Smeg
HI Dann,
The single basket holds approx. 7 grams of coffee and the double basket approx. 14 grams. This does depend on the fineness of the grind and how the coffee is tamped.

Hi there,
have owned this machine for 2months and making 2-3 coffees a day. The steam light has started flashing orange and i'm not sure why. It looks like the descaling indiaction is a solid lit orange steam light, not flashing? has something malfunctioned or do i need to do a proper de-scale of the machine?
thanks so much

Hi joshS,
Thank you for your question. We would recommend you run a descale cycle. If this doesn't solve the problem, please email [email protected] with your name, address and contact number. Please mark it to the attention of Lesley.

Emilia T.asked
Hello,
I recently bought the espresso machine (Only 3 days old) and while I love the espresso, I’m having issues using the milk steamer.
I’ve tried a number of things but can’t seem to get the milk to heat up properly:
1. Following the instructions I start the steamer but it only works for a few seconds before the steam reduces and then stops. This only works for about 5 seconds. Am I doing something wrong?
2. I try to reset it usually and get to a point where it sounds like the steamer is both releasing steam and hot water- the machine shudders as it does when it dispenses hot water but it also releases steam. The milk then starts to double a lot quicker than in step 1, but I am concerned that this isn’t right either as it does sound/look like water is coming out.
Any advice on what else I can do will be very helpful. I see a few people have asked similar questions but I have followed your advice and manual to address the issue and it still doesn’t seem to be working right.
Thanks,
Emilia

HI Emilia T.,
Thanks for your enquiry. When frothing milk here are a few tips:
1. Make sure that you have pressed the steam button and wait for the light to stop flashing before bringing down the lever.
2. If you don't press the steam button and bring down the lever, the unit will just dispense hot water.
3. After finishing steaming, if you want to make more coffees, you will need to cool down the boiler. Place a jug under the wand and bring down the lever. Once there is no more steam coming out, bring the lever up and your ready to make more coffees.
Hope this helps

Hi Rodney,
I have ensured that the steam button is pressed and does not flash anymore when using - so I believe it should only be using steam. As mentioned above, however, when it does steam it only does so for a few seconds before it stops - is this normal? If it doesn't stop, the machine starts to make the same noise it does when dispensing water and I think it is releasing water when it should be just steaming. Is it possible my machine is faulty?
Thanks,
Emilia

I bought my machine two weeks ago. It is working really well but the coffee drops very slowly out of the filter, and the end amount is very small. Any advice on what I am doing wrong?

Hi Adrian S.,
Please check the fineness of your grind. You may need to adjust it a little coarser.

My ECF01 is 1 day old. I want to make 3 coffees for the people in my household. The machine seems to take ages to warm up & after I have made 2 coffees then it takes an age to warm up sufficiently to make the third.
Also, when I use steam to heat the milk, I am unable to control the amount of frothing that ocurrs............it ends up all froth, which is not great if I want a flat white.
Smeg, any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?
1 answer
Rodney M.Smeg
Dear JSP,
The coffee machine is ready for use once the two coffee button lights are lit up and not flashing anymore. This should take around one minute. In order to get less froth, we recommend placing the wand further down in the jug. After steaming, you will need to release excess steam until the coffee lights stop flashing, then you can proceed to make more coffees. Please refer to your instruction manual for further information.

Victor McGowanasked
Hi,
The machine works fine when I make a coffee and then press the steamer button to froth the milk. However after I use the steamer for the milk, I am unable to make another coffee as the two espressos frantically blink. I can only make another coffee unless I turn the machine off and on again.
Is this a fault in the machine as I have only had it 4 weeks?
Victor

Hi Victor - refer to page 7 of the manual under cleaning and care - how to cool down the boiler - this should answer your query.

We received this machine for Christmas.2019. We love it, however since we started using it the orange light, indicating that the machine needs descaling has come on 4 times (today is 1 April 2020). I have completed the descaling process 3 times, once with descaling solution about a month ago. The light came on again today. Can someone please tell me if there could be a problem or is this common. We average about 5 coffees a day. Thank you

I have the same problem and can’t find anything anywhere that may have the answer. Iv only had mine for 4 weeks
Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Natalie,
You will need to adjust the water hardness to soft and that will extend the time you will have to descale. Please refer to your instruction manual for further information.

My milk is always so bubbly when I steam it with the machine. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I’ve tried all of the hints and tips. I’m after that glossy smooth finish. I’m wondering if the wand is the issue? Is it too short and wide?

Hi,
I also have the issue of very slow flow through the grouphead. The coffee trickles out taking around 2 mins to fill half an espresso cup. Could the filter be blocked? I have descaled the machine and all the filters. Many thanks
