Excellent so far - no frills just basic but works
We bought this after a bad experience with a much more expensive and complicated machine. Its been great so far. Basic with no frills but works which is exactly what we wanted. You have to make sure not to fill the coffee filter baskets too much or they won't click in so we don't use the one cup one as it isn't big enough for the amount of coffee you need for a mug. Changing settings is a bit of a pain due to only having the 3 buttons to work with. Its easy to clean, looks cool, doesn't take up too much room, heats up quickly and if it lasts we'll be super happy with it.

Hopefully it will last
I bought it in blue from TVSN, have had it since 22/2/18. Have so far used the full replacement warranty once, no questions asked pretty much. The Plastic seal/rubber at the top of frother was cracking due to heat. So I got the machine replaced. I will be surprised if it last for several years, not sure it’s fantastic quality. Specially if it has cracked already in only 2 months. But the warranty is their if I need it. Looks nice and is small, so easy to fit on bench. Not much too it, I bought my own coffee grinder so didn’t need one attached. ...Read more
This doesn’t come with a grinder, but I find it better to have a coffee machine only focus on pressure and extraction. Not have an inbuilt coffee grinder, I find they have problems and are exspensive to fix. Makes a good cuppa but can’t put a large cup underneath. So I use a jug and fill that up to make a large coffee. Easy to clean but the metal and mirror gets dirty easy and stains easy. Need to make sure you clean it every time and wipe it. I gave it 3 stars as I am happy with the coffee at the moment. Hopefully it will last. I buy coffee beans whole from Aldi which buy them from Melbourne. Coffee is yummy and cheap. Freshly grinded beans are much better. I have tried both and all sorts of coffee brands. Aldi is cheap and taste beautiful suprisingly. Better then the more expensive bean brands.Similar opinion? Very happy with my smeg coffee machine
I had a pod machine and decided to upgrade to a manual machine. I wanted one with a frothing wand as I drink mostly milk coffees. I have very limited space so it had to compact. I wanted to be able to choose how much coffee goes into my cup. It had to be easy to use. And it MUST look good. This machine ticks them all, and I can even set the temperature of my coffee. Having never used a manual one before It did take me a while to learn how as there is more to it than pop in a pod and push a button. The instruction book is easy to follow and e...Read more
xplains things along the way. After a few days I was able to go to the machine, turn it on and make a cup of coffee just the way I like it. Cleaning is easy and again, explained well in the book. And it looks good!

Overpriced
For the price of this machine you are better off spending the extra $$ and get one that takes beans. The pale blue colour gets dirty and stains easily and is a pain to clean. Avoid this if possible thank you for taking the time to read my review peace out.

Loving it
Used to spend $4 a day on coffee and not anymore. This machine is great, it makes great espresso brew. I can use any coffee blend from local roasters, what a nice way to wake up to. The only thing that isn't too great is the portafilter is way too big, doesn't quite fit my coffee grinder.

Great machine for home use.
Makes a great coffee with a good crema on top in less than 1 minute. I make about 10-20 coffees each day. The "removable" drip tray is designed to make it easy to fit tall coffee mugs, if required. The milk frothing nozzle is simple and effective to use and even easier to clean. I love this machine and so do my neighbours who drop in for a great cup of coffee or two, EVERY day. Highly recommend for home use.

Worked for first 5 coffees then stopped
I fell in love with the design of the machine and thought being Smeg, it was likely to be well designed and built. Whilst the design was what you’d expect from Smeg (loved it), the build felt a bit cheap. There was quite a lot of plastic like components including the power button which use to ‘stick’ and sometimes take ~30mins to pop back out. After the first 5 uses, the machine failed to turn back on to make coffees. I took it back to exchange and process through retailer was smooth and efficient. Unfortunately there weren’t any replacements a...Read more
vailable so they refunded my money. Aside from that, the steam wand is very short and only makes cappuccino froth. If you love cappuccinos then it will suit you, but if you want to make anything else (latte, flat white etc) then it’ll produce way too much air in the milk (which isn’t want you want when you’re trying to make creamy silky smooth milk for a latte). Having owned a breville for the last 10 years, I’ve decided to go back to them as it’s often rated number 1 for home espresso machines across many review sites/critics. Hopefully the fault was just a once off with the Smeg espresso machine, but I didn’t want to risk it again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

So far I like it, and its very cute
For the price I am impressed, although I am no professional barista. Its a little bit noisy, the tray where the cup sits will scratch easily and I have to remove the drip tray to fit my 350ml coffee travel cup but for less than $500, it still makes a nice cup of coffee (with crema) and if youre using nice beans, its a step up from the pod machines. Its also the nicest looking coffee machine Ive ever seen. I have not used the milk frother yet, I did read in the manual that you will need to cool the machine after using the frother if you want to make more coffees. Overall, I would recommend it.

Beautiful but wears too easily
Purchased end of May 2017 and was so happy with it. Makes great coffee, easy to clean and use. After a couple of days I noticed the plate the cup sits on was scratched up, and now after 2 months it looks horrible worn. I only use the light weight smeg cup from the pack I purchased so I'd hate to think what a normal cup would do. It wouldn't bother me if he product was a cheap brand but between that and the letters off the also new smeg jug falling off, in very disappointment in the brand after spending so much on all the appliances.

Very simple but incredibly good!
Spent a while researching coffee machines and had resigned ourselves to the fact that we'd have to fork out a lot of money (~$700+) to get something that would actually function well and not fail prematurely. Then, by chance, stumbled across the SMEG at Harvey Norman and did a bit of research on the spot. From all accounts it couldn't really be faulted so decided to give it a go, managed to get it for $418 with a 5 year warranty so couldn't really say no. I wasn't a huge fan of the aesthetic style but with that being the only apparent downside ...Read more
it was still worth it. Setup was easy, had a couple of coffies ready within minutes. It's a very simple machine however it does what needs to be done well, and less components to fail. The seal between the machine and filter holder feels strong. Several brand new machines in the shop felt as though they'd already failed but I get the impression this will last. Despite its simplicity there are some some cool programmable features to suit your tastes. Water temperature, amount of water delivered after button press, water hardness etc. I did find the adjustment process a bit complex but it's really only a once off change anyway. We are black coffee drinkers so the milk frother has been seldom used, however the few times it has been used the results have always been consistently good. No patchy half steam half water or pausing to reheat half way. The only thing I'm yet to figure out is how to switch back to regular coffee mode having just used steam mode without switching it off and back on again (in theory should just be a button press). All in all I would recommend this machine. It's been used multiple times daily for the last couple of months and I can't fault it. Only real downside if I had to have one would be the water tank capacity, which is a little on the small side. We liked it so much I got another for my parents who go through one machine a year due to various failures. Their feedback is similar to mine in that it's a consistent coffee every time, easy to use, built well etc. The aesthetic has also grown on me too, and now I quite enjoy seeing it in the kitchen where it is often complimented on its appearance!Similar opinion? Great machine at a good price
After quite a bit of research I settled on this machine as it consistently scored well in online reviews - and I'm glad I did. As someone who buys 1-2 take away coffees every day, my main motivation for buying a coffee machine was to save money and reduce environmental waste. However, I was concerned about whether a home machine at this price point would would satisfy my taste requirements (having been spoiled by good baristas for many years!). Suffice to say, after my first trial making a latte today (with freshly ground quality beans), I'm no...Read more
t disappointed. It produced a nicely balanced espresso with decent crema and well textured milk from the steam wand. Oh, and it looks pretty beautiful, too! You can adjust the machine to suit your tastes (e.g. volume of coffee extracted, temperature etc), so if you do purchase this machine, make sure you take some time to learn about the settings that match your tastes best, to get the best cup out of it!Similar opinion? Danni D.asked
I recently bought this machine - not sure if I am doing it wrong but I am finding the coffee flavour weak/watery tasting.
The instruction book Just says to tamp firm for a stronger flavour, but I don’t find it to be stronger. Is there something else Im missing or can do to change the strength of the coffee?
I have also tried 3 different types of beans/brands but still getting a watery weak taste.

Hi, I've just bought my coffee machine and I'm having trouble with attaching and removing the basket without moving the whole machine and accidentally pressing buttons on the top trying to stabalize it- it seems to be really stiff - any ideas?

Hi all,
Recently purchased an ECF01 a month ago. Brilliant machine and love it, however, in the last two days the water holding container has started to leak. Appears one of the black spring valves keeps dripping when filled. To the point it soaks a tea towel after one use now underneath. Any tricks to fixing this or is it a case of returning to the shop?

Thank you for your reply. Following my e-mail I managed to use an old soft tooth brush to get in and clean under the black plunger which seems to have dislodged a small item that was stopping it from sealing closed. This item must have been in the water that was poured in from a jug. The unit is now back operating perfectly once again. Thank you. Peter
