Disappointed

This toaster came with a hefty price tag but sadly didn’t last. Sparks flew out of my toaster after approx 2 years of having it and now the lever no longer stays in place. The toaster was only used a few times a week.
If I had my time again, I would go with a different brand for the kettle and toaster.

Purchased in November 2017 at Myer for A$179.00.

The element blew

After reading the reviews, I thought that won’t happen to me - well guess what the element blew! Only toasts half my bread and then I have to turn. So disappointed.

Quite dissapointed

I thought I'd spoil myself with a smeg kettle and toaster. The kettle started leaking water a week past warrently. The toaster hasn't performed any better. It sparked and went boom this morning, tripping all the power. It hadn't ever toasted well being very inconsistent. The knob to adjust cooking time has stuck and is unable to turn. Only owned for 18 months. Definitely not value for money. The worst I've owned and I normally just use $20 ones from Coles or Kmart.

Purchased in June 2018 at Harvey Norman for A$150.00.

Cheap n nasty with a high end price

It toasts unevenly thanks to several elements not working from new, and dries the bread out more than it toasts. It noisily ejects with such aggression, the toast becomes a projectile and often hits the floor - creating a mess and a waste. The browning control is temperamental; the same setting is ok one day, overdone the next. Unlike our previous (much cheaper) toaster, the Smeg is absolutely useless for cooking crumpets. It’s only redeeming feature is the long slots. We got it via a rewards program. I’m glad we didn’t pay directly for it, or we would’ve felt very ripped off by such a poor performing product. We will not have another Smeg!

Faulty design

I had a faulty toaster replaced as after 6 months it started only toasting one side. 4 months later the replacement one did exactly the same thing. Harvey Norman were happy to let me get a different brand as I wasn’t interested in another Smeg as it seems to be a manufacturing flaw. It’s a pity because I think it’s the best looking toaster out there.

Nice looking retro toaster

Worked well for 6months now exchanged loses silicone feet too easily and started cooking toast across only half the bread replacement had 2 pads missing but pack of 4 in the ops manual

Toaster tripped my switchboard but Smeg replaces it

Bought this toaster just over a year ago from
DJs. I normally keep all receipts but couldn’t find one for the toaster. It worked beautifully for over a year. It then started tripping my safety switch on the house switchboard. I tried the toaster in different plug sockets and determined it was definitely the toaster. I contacted Smeg and to my total disbelief they replaced it no questions asked. I sent them the serial number and the replacement toaster arrived in about 7 days! Well done Smeg! That’s customer service! I have the kettle, mixer and the blender and the products are amazing.

What a pity

I absolutely adore my SMEG oven so I was keen to get my hands on the kettle and toaster. After only purchasing the toaster in May, one side of the toast comes up perfect while the other is barely touched. I now toast in my SMEG oven rather than the actual toaster. Disappointing after such a positive experience with many other products from this premium range.

Very Disappointed

Bought this and matching kettle from Harvey Norman. The kettle was replaced within 2 months due to a faulty lid, now the toaster is only toasting on one side. For the price of the kettle and toaster I would expect that this would have lasted more than 14 months, just outside the warranty period. :(

Great toaster

We purchase this and matching kettle for new kitchen over 12 months ago. While it is not a cheap product but it fits in with and works better than previous toasters we have owned.

No issues with toasting bread or crumpets and defrost mode works great on frozen bread.

We redeemed our Qantas reward points for the Smeg black 4 slice toaster, as previous reviews mentioned great looking toaster and worked famously for 6 months, then arced and end of that toaster, Qantas Store kindly replaced as still under warranty. 2nd smeg toaster again same as before, great looking working well receive this toaster in April 2017 this morning arced and now no longer working.

Very disappointed - didn't last as long as a $30 toaster

Looks lovely but think twice about buying a toaster or small appliance from Smeg. It lasted 14 months and now it's dead, toast won't stay down unless held manually. Disappointing at this price to see such terrible reliability and build quality - I've had $30 toasters that have lasted literally five times longer. Have a number of large Smeg appliances (cooktop, oven, dishwasher) all of which are excellent - but it would appear that the Smeg brand isn't the promise of quality it once was.

Disappointing - planned obsolescence?

I loved this loved this toaster when I purchased it, but after just over a year (and conveniently, just after it was out of warranty) it now only toasts on one side. I have to stop and turn the toast over for even toasting. Not what I expected for a two hundred dollar price tag. Not impressed Smeg!

Beware of Sparks - Terrible Toaster

We have had the Smeg black, 4 slice toaster for less than 2 years and it has sparked and will now only toast one side. The product was purchased from Harvey Norman and looked great, but the performance is terrible. You pay a premium price and get less than adequate performance.

I bought a 4 toaster smeg but once side of the bread gets toasted.. it’s being like thS since we bought it 3 months ago .. is there something I am not turning on.. need help.. can’t afford to buy a new one

I would return under warranty. You can either get new one or maybe they will give you another brand for free. Having said that I have had no problems with mine

Please take it back to your place of purchase, with a copy of the receipt and they will exchange it for you.
