Absolute Rubbish - Not even 1 star
Absolute rubbish. On the setting 1.5 our toast is burnt, so we put it on 1 and have to watch it, then pop it ourselves. When the toaster is left to burn our toast on 1.5, it pops up so hard it flys out of the toaster. Out of curiosity we put the setting on 3, the toast was totally black and the smoke alarm went off. Unfortunately you cant return a toaster for burning the toast. What a waste of money. Unfortunately all the reno shows use them so people assume that the Smeg appliances must be good.

Awful toaster
I purchased this toaster several weeks ago and have disliked using it ever since to the point that I'm prepared to put it away and use my old toaster - which is ridiculous considering the price I paid for it, which is the most expensive - by far - of any other toasters I've seen in shops. To begin with, even if you're only toasting one slice of bread, all four "slots" are activated which is surely a waste of electricity and certainly a waste of the use of the elements. There is no option to only toast two slices of bread. Additionally, it toast...Read more
s unevenly. One side is toasted and the other almost not at all - I have to constantly stop the toasting process and turn the bread slices around. when the bread automatically pops up at the completion of the cycle (or when I manually stop the toasting process) the toast flies through the air landing several feet away on the floor. Yesterday I activated the toast with no bread in it at all and looked inside - the outer 'elements' all glow red but the inner elements don't, only some of them. This is why, I assume, that the toaster doesn't toast evenly. Don't buy this toaster!1 comment

Not really one-star rating
The second (replacement) from harvey norman in 18 months just died...I had hoped that the high price and reputation of SMEG would ensure some kind of longevity, but no, sadly, this is a very poor product and i won't be coming back...ever!
Purchased in July 2021 for A$139.00.

Good Large Toaster
We got this toaster a few weeks back. We make our own sourdough bread so wanted a toaster with slots long enough to handle long bread slices. We haven’t had any problems with it. GOOD POINTS: It’s an elegant looking thing and the colour choice was very good. It toasts really well. It has the quietest and least clanky-sounding mechanism of any toaster we looked at. The knob for controlling the length of the toasting cycle clicks around in a very well-made sort of way. BAD POINTS: You can’t lift the toast up with the handle so if you’re toas...Read more
ting bread that’s not as tall as a standard loaf it’s sometimes hard to get your piece of toast back out of the toasting slot. The black numbers on toasting duration dial are printed on shiny chrome so they can be a little hard to read at times. It doesn’t have a button for a little extra toasting which our last toaster had and which we liked. It does have a button to toast only one side (the ‘bagel’ button) but that’s not particularly useful to us. The spring mechanism is quite powerful so if you have something lightweight in it it will flick it clean out of the toaster when it’s done, sometimes falling back into the slot, sometimes onto the bench or floor. I find this kind of funny - it’s a total loony tunes cartoon move - but I can imagine some people will not be thrilled to see their fancy new toaster fling their crumpet onto the kitchen floor.Similar opinion? Bad decision.
I purchased this toaster just over a year ago and was attracted to the vintage look. It is absolutely terrible to use. Have to set toaster to a 1 as any higher setting burns the toast. I wish Smeg products would be of a higher standard as I would have liked to purchase the fridge too. I would not purchase Smeg in the future as I have read nothing but poor reviews.
