Hi. Could you please advise me of the size of the 10 X heating element cover plate bolts (6 + 4 bolts). They are so badly rusted I am unable to tell the size, but guessing 13mm head and M8 thread and about 15mm thread length.

Hello.
I am going away for 3mths and have a 300L roof solarhart system on my roof. I am concerned about hot water leaking off my roof excessively. What should I do to prevent this?
Should I turn off hot water fuse in electricity box meter and turn off internal hot water booster in house and/or should I turn water mains off to property or shall this effect the elements in the solar hot water unit.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks Donna

The hot water relief valve outlet on our solahart unit is in an enclosed garden room area. When the emergency relief valve opens boiling water spurts out about 1 1/2 metres into the room. It downloads about 1/3 of the water tank before it stops. A representative from solahart has informed us that the unit is installed correctly. Can this be correct? We are concerned someone will be scalded. It is very dangerous!

when I had a solar hot water unit it had the relief valve connected to the spouting this let hot water return to tanks but I also fitted a blind and when was over 30 I would block off some of the collectors but it is also possible to have the tank fitted with a control to stop this solar hart can supply

This happened to our solar hot water system shortly after it had been installed. We had to call a plumber to fix the problem. We would like to replace our system but would not go for solar again. In winter we have to run system on day rate to have enough hot water to last for the day.

Called plumber. It was the valve. Workmanship plus parts and get $255. Fixed but will have a high water bill. I love my solar. Had it 4 years. Water always hot. Have 5 panels and was getting credit but last couple of bills had to pay but still a lot less than b4 solar

I'm chasing parts to replace in my existing solar-hart hot water system, and I'm getting the run around with suppliers wanting to come out and do the job instead of just supplying what I need. Can anyone refer me to a supplier that will sell me parts in Brisbane without the sales pitch that it must be done by a registered plumber? No offence to plumbers, but I am a tradie and need to save on the costs of having to get this done in the first place.
Thanks very much in advance.
Glenn.

I have an Aldi water pump connected to my Rain-water tank, is maintains constant output pressure, two pressure sensors control the function of the pump, one measures output pressure and is in the outlet reservoir of the pump, the other measures the input pressure just after the input filter and turns the system off if the filter is blocked. Check your input filter, clean it regularly depending on the quality of the water you receive.

2016 Solahart 302 ltr system, roofmounted. has anyone had an issue with a thunderous noise on hot days ?
Comes from the unit when the hot water tap is turned on during hottest part of the day (in Queensland). Apparently
(according to the plumber) the water boils to 85 deg and when cool water goes in to refill this causes a
reaction, resulting in a thunderous noise. Quite scary. Hoping for a solution. thanks

Hi there, I live in an area of fairly intense summer sunshine and have had similar problems with my solahart. I think what happens is you turn on the tap, the pressure in the tank drops slightly and this allows it to boil. It is not a particularly good situation as the pressure fluctuations and heat could possibly stress the system ultimately causing leaks. It can also lead to hydrogen build up under some circumstances due to decomposition of the anode. You need to cool it down. A cheap low tech solution is to cover the panels partially or completely with shade cloth during the hottest time of year. A bit of experimentation should enable you to find the correct amount of shading needed. Jim

Thank you Jim for your suggestion. We think this is what will need to happen. Just hope Solahart foot the bill to add retractable blinds
to the unit..should this be the only solution.

I Don't know.

It's a safety feature of the system, if there is a string of hot days or days of little hot water use the water temperature in the tank can get very high, when that happens the safety valve opens and dumps some water to reduce the temperature and pressure. It's normal, but it should be a rare event.

I need to replace two sets of taps in our laundry, How do shut off each hot water tap without emptying the whole tank? Please advise the steps needed.

I have had the same problem and this is what I did.
First - Make sure you have a vacuum breaker unit fitted to the Solarhart system, My old Solarhart did have a vacuum breaker. Your input supply to the hot water system should have a tap - Turn off this tap. Then I open the hot water tap in the bathroom to the bath-tub which has its drain plugged, so you can reuse this water. As the pressure drops in the system the flow slows down to a trickle. The Bath tap is also one of the lowest taps in the house, so water drains there first. If you find this is the case in your home, then you can replace the other hot water taps without too much water draining out of them. Make sure you do have a vacuum breaker - its important, especially if your system is a newer one, my Solarhart was a 1983 model, now replaced. The tank drains but not fully just about one-third of a bathtub in my case. Now I can drain my hot water system into the gutter which ends up in the rain-water tank - no wasted water.

From California USA -- I have an old Solahart 300L (80GE in the USA). Has been working great for 20 years!
There are no longer local suppliers so parts are hard to come buy here. I am looking for a very simple part without which my system can't work. Basically it is what Solahart calls a 'collector plug' that seals one corner of the collector panel. An alternative that has been used (it appears) is a 'blocking disc'. In either case they are held in place by a collector nut. Any advice on where I could buy and have these parts delivered? Best, Mark

Thanks for responding Missy! I found the part by contacting a Solahart rep in Portugal, who contacted another in South Africa, who put me in touch with apparently the last supplier in the USA (San Diego, California). The San Diego supplier turned out to be a spectacular help (found the part and sent it to me straight away).

Best Wishes,
Mark

you should be able to use a 1 inch male plug from a plumbing supply to fit the unit
