options in finishing the unit itself is now 8 years 1 month old i have had to spend $850 on it last month and now the booster element has eaten itself away so we are back on luke warm showers it seams even though today is 36c so much for saving the planet and economy my unit cost $4500 plus the $1000 spent this month and now the unit is throw away because the solahart tech broke the heads of 2 of the element bolts and charged me for the repair, THANK YOU SOLAHART,Similar opinion? No savings to be made with Solarhart
Bought a Solarhart system 9 years ago and while there's no doubt the machine makes hot water, especially on hot summer days, BUT I don't believe there is any saving to be made.
When the machine was about 6 years old we had to replace the pump (pumps the cooler water to the roof panels) at a cost of about $300.
Now the equipment is 9 years old the storage tank has sprung a leak - cost of replacement almost $2000, making my capital investment total approximately $6500 - you do the maths over 9 years --- I think that's about $700 per year and re...Read more

A few months ago, I started looking for reviews and info on Solar hot water installs. Here at product review and whirlpool forums. Lots of little bits of info but nothing solid. The whingers are definately out there complaining about everything from a stinky tradesman to god knows what. I went for a 3 panel on roof and a 400 Litre tank by Solahart. d to work on electricity after the compressor died (for the 3rd time). So I went with the Solahart install. $5200 with all the credits applied. Has been in for almost 3 months, and I have turned the power switch in the meter box on 3 times in total, for approx 4 hours each time. Now its summer here on the North coast NSW and its hot, but we have had those rainy days for 2 or 3 days, and only then do I need to switch the back up on. Family of 2 adults, 5 kids. I have to turn the meter on manually because I don't have an off peak meter. Something to do with the heat pump tank when I built the house. Could get one but I don't think we need it. I shower early so if its losing temp (remember 3 times in 3 months with 7 people) I'll flick the switch on before I go to work. Very efficient unit
I purchased a 340SLV system some 4 and a half years ago. So far the system has worked without any problems. Plenty of hot water in the summer for a family of 4 with minimal use of the manual booster on cloudy or winter days. Just recently we have found that the water temperature has been down slightly even on sunny days. A quick call to Solarhart (Gold Coast) and they soon sent out a serviceman. The tempering valve was replaced and a minor water leak rectified, all under warranty. Great response, very impressed!

Solahart Split-System Solar HWS
Solahart Streamline 340L 2 Panel Electric boosted Solar Water heater installed in March 2013. This system has a glass ceramic water tank. After 11 years of fairly trouble free service the tank now needs to be replaced due to rust inside the tank. Not able to replace like for like as my original water tank is no longer available. A quote for a replacement tank from Rheem/Solahart is a Lowline 325L Electric boosted unit at a cost of approximately $2000. Interesting to note that the Customer Information Sheet handed to me when I received the quote from Solahart for my original system included this statement amongst all the other blurb "...it also has an average life of up to three times longer than a conventional hot water system...". Reality check folks. In the first couple of years I too experienced the mandatory blow out of a couple of the dodgy plastic connectors that came with the roof mounted solar panels (replaced under warranty). However, a third connector has just now blown and the quote from Rheem to replace all six connectors with brass upgrades is $500. My advice to anyone about to purchase from Rheem/Solahart - insist that the Solar Panels come with the brass connectors fitted as standard and at no additional cost. I am considering substituting my glass ceramic water tank with a stainless steel water tank. Great design but let down by some poor quality components
Our previous Solahart had rooftop system with tank & collectors on roof. It was fantastic, reduced our power bills by at least 30% for a family of five. We have changed houses and our new house unfortunately did not lend itself to a similar system. This time we opted for roof panels ( of course) but storage tank is under the house with a nearby manual booster switch. h time they rendered the system useless. In summer, the system is fine. In winter, a very different story. In fairness, the temperature limiting valve ( mandatory) is an absolute waste of time unless you have small children. It limits water to 50deg, and long lengths of delivery piping reduce the water temperature further. We nearly want to run in to the neighbours & have our showers there. As it is, we try to have our showers earlier in the day in winter. Reliable & economical on fine summer days. Installation was very neat. Helpful, knowledgeable long term staff at Solahart. Cold weather stretches the system to its limit. Not really adequate even for our family of three. Booster gives only marginal improvement, Solar HWS is good, but I think only with rooftop system. Rusted out tank in 7 years
Our system was installed correctly just over 7 years ago. It is now rusted through at the top of the tank and leaks a lot. The warranty was 5 years, Solarhart have offered to help with replacement cost of tank only, which is still going to cost us between $1700 and $1910 depending on tank size.
I have reported to Rheem via email with Pictures and Solarharts report in the hope that they may back up their component which has prematurely failed. Still waiting to hear back.
Efficient inexpensive hot water after the pain of install cost was forgotten.
Tank should not fail with so much rust so soon.

How can I know my solar hot water system is working?

We've had a Solarhart streamline 430 model for 5 years. Been going well, but lately no hot water, plumber says piping is ok, gas fitter says system and solar panels check out ok, any ideas why? Maybe thermostat faulty? Valves ceased?
