Great product, good price, good claims service
I have used SCTI a few times. I used to work for an insurance company and i can tell you that it isn't the premium that matters, it is whether they pay when you need to claim. SCTI were fantastic when my passport was stolen in Cuba a few years ago. No quibbles, just paid up. I find their premiums are good value and it is also simple to insure most pre existing medical stuff. I would highly recommend them. I have since travelled to europe and also to Japan taking out separate policies. This review is for my end to end experience and i am also noting the claim i had in 2017.
A great travel insurance company
I have used travel insurance often with different companies, and so far I have never had to make a claim.
However SCTI has been the most cost effective premium so far at my age. I will certainly recommend SCTI to family and friends. In the future SCTI will be my preference. Thank you.
First time I’ve used SCTI, I feel it’s excellent value for money and it was very easy to navigate the website and purchase a policy. Other family members have used and recommend SCTI.
Will definitely use again, and happy to recommend to anyone.
Coronavirus coverage (will be travelling in July 2020 not yet traveled)
I booked a cruise last year for Norway to be taken in July 2020 and have not taken out travel insurance yet. So just wondering if SCTI or any travel insurance company are covering this issue. I understand if people have taken out travel insurance PRIOR to the notification of this virus will be covered, but what about people who have booked and wanting to take out insurance? If I take out insurance now and no one is covering COVID-19 then is there any use in taking it out, as there's so many exclusions the insurance company can cop out of.
Always use SCTI
Easy to set up and respond to questions. Have used many times - family also - and made one claim which was clearly and efficiently dealt with. No hesitation in recommending SCTI
Absence of customer relationship concept
I have been a customer of SCTI for many years and purchased their Travel Insurance product every time I travel. My previous reviews have always rated them highly but unfortunately tgis time I am marking them down because tgey dont seem to reward loyalty. In other words no concept of relationship with customer. I have purchased their product many times and never ever made any claims. Yet, the premium keeps increasing every time I buy Travel Insurance. Surely they should recognise the loyalty and history of claims. Apart from this,In terms of service no complaints at all.
Extremely efficient and always available to talk
I have claimed twice over the years I have booked with SCTI and I cannot fault them. They are efficient and their call centre is easy to reach from overseas. Best prices around too. Will always book with SCTI for my trips
Value for money
I have taken out travel insurance with SCTI a few times and always found their policies to be good value with easy to understand coverage details. My most recent trip is the first time in over 20 years of traveling that I have ever made a travel insurance claim, albeit a minor one. SCTI was easy to detail with - the process was straightforward and they paid the claim in line with their policy. Will definitely continue to use them.

More than financial reimbursement
We booked SCTI based on friend’s recommendations and they delivered. Insurance is something you never want to use but was very glad I selected SCTI when one of my children had to undergo emergency surgery in Fiji. It was great to get all associated costs back but customer service team really assisted my entire family during the process (accommodation, flights, medical opinions, dealing with hospital commercial team) Thank you Southern Cross
Easy to make a claim
I had a straightforward claim: My flight to NZ was delayed 3 hours then cancelled. Since I was only going to NZ for the weekend, I didn't get on the replacement flight they offered us (which would get me there ate 4PM the following day).
Jetstar refunded my flight, and I claimed the rest (accommodation, car hire, transport to/from airport) with SCTI. I lodged all receipts with them and received my money back about 4 weeks later.
Value for money and the best service ever. Thank you for Southern Cross Travel Insurance.
Value for money and the best service ever, easy to deal with, I did have a claim in the past and had no problems at all. Thank you for Southern Cross Travel Insurance.
Long time customer. Unfortunately, I injured my finger in Bali and all costs incurred were reimbursed by SCTI following the claim with supporting documents. Affordable prices. Will recommend this insurance company. Headache-free claim.
No good for Bali
Clause on their website that excludes any claim for volcano related incidents, which seems to be long standing and in place for future events. I reached out to scti for clarification on this as a long time customer of theirs only to be ignored twice. Thanks scti, I will go elsewhere.
This is perfect ..cant live without it
I am a previous customer..many times... and find the ease of buying and comprehensive cover very affordable. I have never had a claim so cannot comment on that end but recommend your services
Doesn't cover Morning Sickness due to unforeseen Pregnancy
Have used SCTI many times and haven't had a problem. Last year, I experienced severe Morning Sickness due to unforeseen Pregnancy and as a result had to cancel the holiday. STCI refused to refund hotel costs as Morning sickness is not covered despite the event being unforeseen and after the purchase of the insurance. I provided documentation from my OB stating that travel was not advised as well as proof that I was not pregnant at the time of purchase of the insurance - and this didn't change the outcome. This is extremely disappointing that their policy doesn't support women in this scenario.
I didn't think I would write such a review for an insurance company, but my experience in both taking out a policy and in making a claim (the test of a good policy and company) could not be faulted. Various members of my family have used SCTI over the last couple of years and I hope that their reasonable prices stay competitive as I plan to use them for a major overseas trip this year.
Great value got money.
I have used SCTI numerous times over the last 4 years while travelling overseas to visit family. Comparing policies offered with other companies, I find they meet all my needs, at a reasonable price. Unfortunately I had a need to claim on my trip taken late last year but all benefits were paid as per the schedule quickly and without any hassle.
We have traveled a few times with SCTI and had no issues or claims. When we got home there was a courtesy email providing details if we had to claim. Comforting to have that.
Before we left, I discovered I had inserted the wrong return date, being too short. Placed a phone call and the new dates given and all sorted in a very friendly and professional manner.
Will use these folks again for sure.
great insurance but poor customer service
Great travel insurance and normally very responsive to contact via supplied numbers. However! I did contact SCTI on email when the recent Coronavirus issues arose as we were travelling in Japan, just asking where we stand with our insurance and given that health organisations had declared higher emergency status and if our insurance was still valid. Sadly no one ever got back to me - Very Poor form guys.
Worst Ever Experience
Worst insurer ever! Tried to call there hotline for two weeks and was on hold for a minimum of 45min before i hung up! When i finally got through and had my questions answered i bought insurance on the 2nd of Feb even though i had been calling since 20th Jan. I then called again 2 days later and again i waited 45min to ask if i was covered for CORONAVIRUS and was told NO as you had to insure before 31st Jan. Thanks SCTI if you answered your phones prompty and not expected people to wait 45+ minutes obviously people don't have anything better to...do i would have bought insurance well before 31st Jan. Also on there web page where you buy insurance there is no mention of CORONAVIRUS at all or the date you had to buy insurance by. I don't know what making a claim would be like if you can get through to them! Good luck everyone but if i were you i would avoid SCTI like the PLAGUE.

Questions & Answers
Does the single trip policy cover accommodation costs in the event of cancellation?
Suggest you read the PDS online on the website. Cancellation section. Cancellation can be covered depending on the reason for the cancellation. Also suggest you give consideration to the amount you nominate for cancellation coverage. I always increase it from the basic cover amount.
Covid-19 and refund of tickets/travel delay. I have yet to purchase flights for Spain/France 6 week trip over mid Jun-end July 2020. What is the policy for refund or assistance in these scenarios
1) Other countries close borders, or ban Australian visitors (as we go into winter we could have a spike in cases)
2) Unable to return to Aust due to quarantining in an as-yet unaffected country (ie no Smarttraveller warnings at time of flights purchase)
3) Refund of flights and accommodation etc, if an area is declared on Smarttraveller as a no-go or extreme caution AFTER I have purchased
