Hi, do you cover any additional costs where an airline decides for some reason to cancel a flight on a particular day we are to travel just citing operational reasons and I have to scramble and buy another ticket with an alternative airline last minute to make a connecting flight in 2 days time .

Hi skp115,

Thanks for your question and I'm sorry for our late reply.

There's cover under the policy should you need to rebook another flight, however, if the airline is responsible for the cancellation we ask that you claim with them first before submitting a claim with us.

We'd only be able to confirm cover of the event once we've looked at and assessed a claim.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected] or give us a call on 1800 196 484.

Hi, we've used SCTI for our previous travels and have always found them helpful. Just have one question.
We're thinking of booking a quad bike tour in Bali. Is there automatic cover for this with SCTI? I understand that we can pay extra for motorbikes / mopeds but does this include QUAD Bikes or are they already a standard inclusion?

1 answer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross T.Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Welliboots,

Thanks for your question!

We don’t consider a Quad Bike to be a motorbike/moped, we consider it to be a rental vehicle.

It's important to note, you’ll only be covered to ride a Quad Bike whilst on a paved/formed roadway or car park and there’s no cover for this activity if you’re racing, being timed in a race or participating in a competition for a monetary prize.

There’s also no cover for your personal liability whilst riding a Quad Bike as it is a motor vehicle.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected] or call us on 1800 196 484.

Cover under Section D2 – Cancelling or changing your journey before you leave begins from the moment you buy the policy. If you need to cancel or change your trip due to an unexpected event, like falling ill, you can claim for the costs under this section up to the cancellation cover amount chosen at time of purchase.

Hi GLK,

Thanks for your loyalty to our brand. Our policy provides cover for new and unexpected volcanic eruptions and earthquakes (also known as natural events) which affect your travel during your period of insurance. We expect you to seek any help, refunds or any credit you’re entitled to receive from your airline or service provider first.

However, please know that events related to Mt Agung volcano in Bali aren’t currently covered under our policy. Mt Agung is still experiencing volcanic activity, with the exclusion zone and alert level 3 remaining in place. For more information, you can refer to the travel alert on our website here: https://www.scti.com.au/travel-advice/mount-agung-bali/ or https://www.scti.co.nz/travel-advice/mount-agung-bali/.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your question!

There’s cover for both of you under the Annual Multi-trip policy, even if you’re travelling separately.

However, if one of you were to fall ill and the other person wanted to travel to see them, they’ll only be covered under the Accompanying Persons benefit. The individual’s circumstances must meet the conditions of this benefit in order for cover to apply. For more information, please refer to page 14 of the Policy Disclosure Statement.

Planning a trip to China in 2020. Am a regular traveller to Vanuatu and was once told by a doctor at the then Port Vila private hospital that SCTI have been known to direct pay costs of hospitalization without need for client to pay first and claim reimbursement. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your question.

If you’re admitted into hospital while you’re overseas, you, or someone acting on your behalf, would need to contact our Emergency Assistance team as soon as possible. Our dedicated team would be able to assist with the next steps, this includes dealing with the hospital directly on your behalf.

It's important to note, the TravelCare policy doesn’t cover for private medical treatment overseas where any public health care or treatment is available, whether or not that public health care is available under any reciprocal health agreement between the Australian and foreign governments.

We are going on our first family criuse in October. I have two questions:
1.We have to fly to our port. The flights are due 8 hour's before our ship sails. Are we covered if the flights are delayed & we miss the boat?
2. I'm looking forward to enjoying a wine with dinner, if I fell or some unlikely injury happend after said glass of wine am I still covered to see a doctor & if need be make a claim?
Thank you
Janice.

1 answer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross T.Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Janice,

Thanks for your questions.

1. If your flights are delayed due to an unexpected event, the policy covers either the additional costs to continue your trip or the unused prepaid costs as a result of this delay.

2. We understand that people have a glass of wine at dinner on holiday and we wouldn't deny a claim just because you had a glass of wine. However, there will be no cover for the injury if it was caused due to being under the influence or effect of alcohol. We would go based on the medical notes from the treating doctor to determine if this injury was related to the influence of alcohol.

As the events haven’t happened yet, we’d only be able to confirm cover once we’ve looked at and assessed the claim.

If you have any other questions, you’re more than welcome to call us on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected]

Hi Liz,

Thanks for your question.

There’s cover under the policy if you’ve received specialist treatment overseas, however, you’ll need to provide us with a written referral letter from a GP alongside the other documents needed for a claim.

-What is the age limit for pre existing conditions ?

1 answer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross T.Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Will,

Thank you for your question and please accept my apologies for our late reply.

We do not have any age limits for a relevant person, which refers to those not named on your insurance policy like your parents.

If your parents were to pass away, get admitted into hospital/get into a hospital wing of a rest home, admitted to end stage palliative care OR receive a diagnosis for a terminal condition or condition requiring radiotherapy or chemotherapy then there would be cover under the policy should you need to cancel your trip.

Further information can be found in the terms and conditions of the Combined Financial Services Guide and Product Disclosure Statement, in particular Section D2 and D3. The meaning of ‘relevant person’ can be found in Section H of the Policy Document.

If you have any other questions about this cover, you can call us on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected]

Hi Renga Rejan,

Thank you for your question. Please accept my apology for the delayed response.

If you and your wife are travelling at different times but to the same location, you can both still be on the same policy if you wish.

There are just a couple things you will want to bear in mind –
1) When you’re travelling separately you will only be covered up to the individual amounts under the policy. For example, under Baggage and Personal items the individual limit is $25,000 per journey whereas the family limit is $50,000. This means if you were travelling separately from your wife and you lost your suitcase you would only be able to claim up to the individual limit.

2) If one of you were to fall ill and the other person wanted to travel to see them, they will only be covered for the Accompanying Persons benefit. The individual’s circumstances must meet the conditions of this benefit to apply. For more information please see page 14 of the Policy Disclosure Statement.

If you have any further questions or want to discuss anything further, please contact us on 1800 196 484.

Vinod S.

Vinod S.asked

does travel insurance cover car accident say repair bills come $1000 for another car and my car $2000

1 answer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross T.Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Vinod S,

Thank you for your question.

The TravelCare policy provides cover for rental vehicle excess up to $5000. This means that when you hire a car overseas, you will need to purchase insurance from the rental vehicle company to cover the car (which includes damage to third party vehicles).

Therefore, in your example the insurance you took out with the rental vehicle company would cover the repair bills for damage to your car and the other car involved. They would then charge you an excess and you would be able to claim this back through your TravelCare policy.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected].

f you’re planning on taking several trips a year, our Annual Multi-Trip policy might be a more cost (and time) effective choice than shopping around for travel insurance every time you travel. Once purchased, you’re covered for an unlimited number of return journeys overseas, over a period of 12 months commencing on your start date of insurance. You can choose to have journeys covered up to a maximum of 30, 60 or 90-day in length.

So if you’re planning to go on several trips this year, you could buy just one policy to get cover for a year’s worth of adventure.

If you buy a ‘Family’ Annual Multi-Trip Policy, the adults on the Certificate of Insurance can travel independently, however any dependent children named on the Certificate of Insurance are only covered if travelling with an adult named on the same Certificate of Insurance.
