Out of date and rotten food served by gloomy staff with filthy interior.
I went to spar sussex inlet a couple of times but never want to shop there again unless it’s an emergency and have no choice. I would recommend never to buy things that have a ‘special’ sticker on them from here. It is usually out of date or rotten. I have bought bread that was out of date here before. Fruit that are on special have rotten and moldy ones on the bottom so you can’t tell until you open the packet. I bought deli food from here and had two indegestions in the past. The supposedly old owner lady here always watches me like a hawk an...Read more
d makes me uncomfortable, like I’m doing something bad by just browsing around. The staff look very sad and mistreated all the time. It’s a gloomy place for a holiday town. The vegetables are always soggy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Most inconsistent stock
When this Spar opened, it's owners had a good selection of everything you would want from a small supermarket, and I did my weekly shop there. Then a new family took over and it is so inconsistent with the stock. Some weeks you can buy frozen peas, next week you can't, but you can buy a toaster?!?!? Instead of stocking the staple line of products, they stock weird brands or types or sizes. If they stocked a consistent range of products, we would not be forced to go to the big chain supermarkets. Woolworths is opening in Mascot soon, so I think Spar will just become one of the many convenience stores in the area.

Never using again.
Discrimination against Asian going on in this store. Always never been welcomed, but given a look looking at me up and down for two times, and stares at me like why did you even come here I so hate my job. There are a lot of asian people living in Mascot, and Spar can definately not be able to compete against Woolworths coming in, but they are not even trying anything.

Thieves
Hopefully they will be forced to close when Woolworths opens. My advice: count your change, question the price and ask for a docket. A russian girl tried to charge me $8 for a packet of Chips they were priced at $3, another time an overpriced litter of OJ $6, another russian tried to charge me $10, good thing i looked at the screen. If forced to go there use your card ask for a docket and look at your Bnk ap, the charge appears almost immediately. They are thieves.

What a rudeness!!!!!!!!
I WAS a casual customer of this small supermarket in Mascot, 1-5 Bourke Street ( Cnr Church Avenue) Mascot 2020 NSW until...today: as usual it is rare that you can have a receipt from this shop so, as per my habit, I gently ask for a docket please. The person at the counter, presumably the owner, watched me directly and said with an agitated tone of voice: "WHAT YOU WANT?" So I said : "a docket?" understanding that he could not hear the subject of the question; he went almost on my face and said "Pleeeease..!, as I was a child....while I am a ...Read more
50 years old lady...I replied, almost incredulous, " I did say Please, can I have now?", he said again :"Pleeese, you must say please!, I said: "this is absurd, maybe you have hearing problems" and I did repeat "Can I have this docket please" (tired of this scene); he then said something about his hearing and then threw everything on me at bench level (yogurts, change of money and docket) and said at very loud voice : " GET OUT OF MY SHOP!". Another young attendant was there and he was pale and silent, I watched him and said that he (the owner) has some issues for sure and he did not say a word, I felt sorry for him (maybe he was the son of the owner)...I left shocked .Dear owner of the SPAR in Mascot I will never buy one thing in your shop as you asked and I will make sure that none of my colleagues and staff (250 people) comes in your shop anymore, do not worry this is a bonus for you. For your information you should give the docket automatically as proof that you are paying your taxes and as a warranty that your merchandise is good and it is my right to have one, I asked politely because I am polite but this is not "mandatory" asking for something that I should have given in the first place. Stay in peace!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not happy staff it seems. For a holiday town it's not good to be greeted by such doom & gloom, to me the only supermarket it town is like the gate way to holiday destination-for those with kids/family and to arrive & first impressions are rudeness leaves a bitter sweet taste especially when just out of the door there is such a beautiful place to explore. Staff where sad looking no smiles, seem to be a matriarch type character hovering around like we were thieves we thought was the owner(didn't make us feel welcome or spending any extra money on...Read more
ly got milk & bread), there is surcharge for credit I heard staff say very rudely & almost saying how dare you use credit, I was shocked at the tone and the customer seemed stunned and said ok I'll have to pay it then, you could just see he was ready to tell them where to go! Our experience was unfortunate for start to holiday and we drive back out half hour or so away to get all other shopping over our holiday. At least supermarket there for essentials Old, disorganized, unfriendly and staring staffSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

OK
It is a good shop for fruit and vegies but you wouldn't want to do all your grocery shopping as it would certainly put your bill up. Good for when you run out of essentials.
Spar is close to where I live. It has good quality fruit and vegetables at usually good prices. Our local spar makes use of local fruit and vegies which is good for the city I live in. It sells just about any product you can buy in a bigger supermarket chain. Good specials come out in a leaflet in the letterbox once a week.
Pricewise it is dearer than the bigger supermarket chains for grocery items and doesn't always have the specials advertised in the letterbox leaflet.

the Spar is a very handy shop for when you just need a couple of things and are in a hurry i dont think much of their prices though as they are really high. I also dont think that there specials are very good as the specials are normally the same price the goods are in the supermarkets.
Handy if you just need a couple of items like bread and milk and dont want to brave the supermarket. They are also open quite late and have heaps of shops all over australia.
The price of there products are quite expensive compared to thee bigger supermarkets.

Great place to buy the sorts of things you buy at the corner store. Like all small supermarkets it's not well staffed but the one I know is well presented at least. It attracts a lot of customers which means long queues and staff are busy serving and not necessarily taking care of the shop. I slipped over on something that should have been cleaned up.
I felt so sorry for the teenager serving a dragon lady who made her cry in front of the line up.
It isn't dingy like most small supermarkets I've seen.
Long queues and I often wait longer to be served than at other corner stores.

There are cheaper places to shop, but it isn't crowded so you can get in and out fast. Limited selection probably accounts for some of the pricing being a little higher than I would like. Would love to see more in the range of bakery goods.
There is one fairly nearby, prices aren't too bad, the produce appears to be decently fresh, staff were very friendly and eager to help and very quick to process the items, layout clean and well lit.
Selection somewhat limited in certain products, there aren't many of them around, don't really feel in general they compete price wise.

Bad
We live in a small community and SPAR is our only local grocery. We shop there only for emergencies or when we don't want to make the 15 minute drive into town where there is Coles, Woolworth, IGA, and Aldi. When you need a litre of milk or a kilo of ground beef it is OK, but you certainly wouldn't want to do all your shopping there because the selection is quite limited and the cost is high. The store is locally owned and operated.
I near our home, quick in and out.
Limited selection with high prices.

The Mascot Spar has very limited stock and is often out if stock! I check the use by date on anything I buy there.
